Tobacco Hornworm (and parasite)

Found this guy last year eating my chili pepper leaves, so I brought him inside. I got worried about him after a couple days, he was really slowing down. The next day, I awoke to a horrific scene that is forever burned into my memory- the larvae of a parasitic wasp were bursting out of him. He was basically a zombie of his former self. Sorry, Cater-Peter ):

Growth spurt

Got this guy from a plant swap for free and he’s just spitting out new leaves like crazy. Two more spikes are coming up from the soil. was this more than one cutting? Is it a golden pothos? And when should I repot? I can see some of the roots through the sides now.

Clueless yet thriving

Threw these bulbs that I got on discount last year into some soil. They survived the NC winter that got VERY cold and they’re growing AGAIN. I made a grave error: planting too close to my gate. Every time I open it I shake hands with a leaf 🤣

I’d like to state that I had no idea what I was doing, they have about 6” of potting soil that is then followed by the clay soil underneath, and they seem to like it 🤷

Does this count?

I bought some elephant ear bulbs on discount last year and threw them in the yard— turns out they didn’t just survive, but thrived! The leaves are so big they’re starting to block my gate 😳

I did some research out of curiosity and a couple different websites said they’re in the alocasia family. Is that accurate?? They’re growing in about 6” of soil that becomes clay underneath as I live in central NC and seem to be very happy

Aloe Aculeata

Just chopped the top of this guy and set him in some soil to root because he was getting a bit too lanky and tall for my shelf and preference. I was going to discard the rest of the plant, but my husband decided to keep a leaf that has the sheath-like band still attached (“collar” maybe?) and drop it in some soil. I’m curious though— will this actually propagate?

Just a lil guy

Keep finding these guys in my garden. They are so sweet but they must get moved back into the woods so that they don’t get hurt, but they keep coming back lol

From what I can tell it’s a rough earth snake, found in central NC

Is it extra✨?

Got this delphinium yesterday and I noticed this one had a HUGE spike with more blooms than the others. Is it fascinated?

Seems really odd, posted in a sub about cats. OP said they made this and I don’t know if I believe it

Detailing seems a bit much for leather (my husband crafts with it). Even if it’s painted, something about how it looks doesn’t feel right.

I went outside and pulled weeds for 20 minutes

Got eaten by mosquitoes (I’m allergic) and ants

Edit: Alright y’all two things:

  1. It’s not the end of the world, it’s just annoying. Hence why it’s here, in MILDLY infuriating. Don’t be a dick. Telling me to suck it up is just idiotic. I’m not crippled by bug bites.

  2. If you feel a need to comment on my SH scars, maybe just don’t. Making commentary on something like that just makes you a dick. It makes other people self conscious and ruins the mood.

Getting off the box now.

Road Carrots

Central NC, wild carrots (queen annes lace) found by the side of a road. May or may not come back for seeds 🫣 it’s right near my house so I can check on their doneness, but they’re doing construction and will be tearing up these and some wild blackberry soon

Pleasantly Shocked

Turns out I should have put in a support for my marshmallow plants…

Central NC, slowly letting the native plants take over the garden and adding some useful guys in isolated beds.

(First pic is the mallow leaning after rain and growing sideways, second is the huge bud in the top leaves, third pic is how they looked when we put them in the ground, fourth pic is clover prince for tax)

Corvid beak or bullet hole?

A hole in my skull made itself visible once I pulled my friend out of the maceration bucket and I’m curious. Anyone know what this could be from?

Edit: anyone have recommendations about making sure that this is safe and won’t break more or degrade? Will the hole be a problem?

Broke my toe standing up

Repost because I realized I needed to crop the x ray:

Transplanting plants in my garden, husband asks me to let the dog inside. I stand up, roll my foot under myself because I have hypermobile joints, and drop all 157 lbs of body weight onto my pinkie toe. Went to work at Costco today and had to walk in with a cart, so the bosses sent me to the doctor. I know they won’t do anything for it but tape it since it’s not displaced, so I wouldn’t have gone unless work made me. Kind of makes sense because of the work I do. I wasn’t sure if I could work or not but walking is incredibly painful and I wasn’t gonna make it through my shift.

Went to the doc, turns out my pinky toe was fused at the top joint (likely congenital) and fractured where the joint would have been.

Didn’t have sick time, so I will likely end up having to give up a vacation later this year so that I can get paid while I’m laid up and figure out potentially needing FMLA.

TLDR; the human body is stupid and I fractured my toe by standing up.

Jiggle

Not my video, but my husband’s. We found this weird stick covered in a freaky jello substance. After some incredibly scientific poking and subsequent research, apparently it’s a fungus?? And it’s *edible*????

Disturbing as it is, it’s satisfying to watch. Hope y’all enjoy ✌️

Hey y’all! This tooth came loose of my coyote skull during the maceration process and I’m getting impatient so I started cleaning anything coming out of the bucket. I used a toothbrush with soap and water and let it sit in hydrogen peroxide for a day. I know that teeth are different than bone, and I’m wondering if this is as opaque as this will get? I’ve been looking for dark/translucent spots when identifying a need for degreasing, but I also know that teeth develop plaque and don’t contain marrow.

Is this ready for display? (Obv not sealed yet)
