Cheap car with expensive exhaust

Yoo I was wondering what you guys would do in my situation. I've had my G37S for the last 9 years and it has given me 0 mechanical issues throughout. Amazing car (japanese V6 for ya) but as yall know, it is now cheap af and doesn't have the best reputation.

Well I am grabbing a new car and going to trade this one in. KBB is at about 5k which I'm fine with and I'm too lazy to deal with a private sale.

The only mod I've ever done is an exhaust and it cost half the car (as of now) lol. It's a Motordyne E370 which costs about 2.5k (best sounding exhaust imo).

Would you guys just trade it in or should I be a good person and try to find a G37 person nearby and charge them $500 + labor so they swap their OEM exhaust with the E370, and then I trade it in for 5k.

Pretty much they get the E370 for the $1000 (assuming $500 labor) and I get an extra $500 lol.

It's just idk where I would post that.

What would you do in my situation (G80 question)?

Hello,

I've been always a fan of BMWs G20 platform since it was released (love B58). Was looking at buying one in 2023 but things came up and decided it was best to wait. I decided now is the time since my current car is having a few issues so I put an order for a custom new one which should arrive soon. I can of course walk away if I want too.

My question is, I have $50k +/- $10k to put down. After speaking with some people in person and online, they asked me why don't I consider an M3 with that money to put down? This leads into my situation now where with 50k down, I should be looking at around $885/mo for 72 months at 5% for a new M3 CxD. The M340i would be at $470/mo for 48 months at 5% (reason 48 because I would prob trade it in by then).

Insurance difference would be about $250/mo (M340) versus $410/mo (M3).

The positives:

  • I would keep the M3 for a MUCH longer time versus the M340 since it is an attainable dream car (GT3 1 day).
  • It should hold value better versus the M340 and since its the last pure ICE model (G84 will have mild hybrid and assuming locked DME) that can be tuned, might be even better.
  • The MAIN reason honestly is if I have a low milage (30k-40k), not super heavy modded G80 M3 xDrive, the resale value will be hopefully decent (around $75k-80k used) in 5 years if I ever do want to sell it compared to the M340. That would mean I only lose about 15-20k off MSRP for using a car for 5 years.

The negatives:

  • I WFH and don't really drive much, therefore I'll be paying the increased monthly payments in both loan / insurance for a car I won't be everyday (it will be my daily though). To give an idea, I only drive 4k miles a year as of now.
  • I don't go to canyon runs in my free time. Same with car meets. It will literally be my daily driver and therefore, I'm not sure how much the increase handling / performance will benefit me. But it is an S58 :)

What would you guys do in my shoes? Do you think the extra $$ in monthly payments / insurance is worth it? I guess I'm considering this now because when I said I have 50k to put down, I guess thats more than 50% of the people who just do $10k down lol.

Thanks!

Paying off Car Loan Advice

Hello,

I have a question regarding getting a car loan (financing through dealership) and paying it off early.

I am looking at purchasing a new car and since I keep cars for a long time, I am planning to buy new. I’ve only had 2 cars prior to this and both were lightly used and paid in full at the time of purchase.

I’m in my low 30s and haven’t had a need to take out a personal loan yet. I was planning to buy the car in all cash to avoid a APR hit, but it seems like I can get 3% financed. I was also told it is smart that I get a paid off loan under my name soon since that will help if I need any future loans whether it’s for another car or a home, etc.

My question is does financing a car through the dealership with say about 30k of value but paying it all off within the 1st 6 months to a year count as a successful loan on my name?

If it matters, my current credit score is around 775-785. But I guess credit score based off credit card payments only can only do so much when taking out loans and banks really care about past loans paid off.

Thanks!

Question about AT&T Fiber Latency

Hello,

I have been using Fiber AT&T 1gig plan for the last 10 months or so. Initially, everything was great but in the last month or so, I've been dealing with some latency issues. I use my PC and Internet for my WFH job / occasional gaming.

Is this normal for my upload latency to be so different to my idle / download (picture)?

- The only reason I'm asking is because when I game, I usually get the lowest ping / latency in the servers closet to me (how it's supposed to be). But recently, I've been getting the opposite where servers closet to me are higher (80) versus servers across the country (40).

I do have NordVPN installed but don't use it when working or gaming but I decided to connect to the VPN server closet to me as well as the gaming server (LA). My latency and ping dropped back to the 10s.

What could be causing this? Or is this more a question for an internet subreddit haha.

Thanks!

M340i on order, need real opinions as I'm now consider M3

Hello,

I have been doing tons of research in the last few months on my next car. I ended up putting a $1000 deposit down for a custom allocation M340i that is now being built. I should have about a month to decide if I plan to keep it or get a refund on my deposit and search else where.

This leads into my thought of just spending the extra $20k-25k on a G80 M3. My MSRP for the M340i with discount is about $64k and after taxes and fees, looking at $70-71k OTD. I will be financing and putting about 40-50k down since interest rates are 5%+. In reality, I'm only financing because I want a loan on my record since I've never had one (always bought cash).

Main Question -- For those with an M340i, do you plan to eventually upgrade to an M3 or why did you pick the M340i over the M3 (was it finance reasons, etc)? Was it the MPG or comfort? The M3 will hold value much better than the M340i but the M340i still holds value relatively well.

All opinions are welcome but I'll call a few insurance places to see the price difference. If its not a huge different annually, I might consider the G80 much more likely.

Day Trading Profession - Section 475 MTM / Trader Tax Status

Hello and happy Saturday.

I have been trading actively for the last 6 years. As most who go down this road, I was not profitable enough to consider it my sole income until the last 3 years (including this year). Because I think I have found my niche and groove in the market where I can comfortably live off the profits, I am looking at advice from tax gurus on Section 475 Mark-to-market / Trader Tax Status.

From my understanding, TTS isn't something to apply for. It's either you meet the conditions or don't. Well, going off the requirements, I do.

For 475 MTM, I would need to apply this year which I would hire a tax consultant to guide me through.

My main question about 475 MTM is, is it better to apply as a sole individual (myself) or create a LLC / S-Corp and have that LLC / S-Corp be registered as 475 MTM? I am wondering if applying as a sole individual would create issues if I ever have more income or worse comes to worse, I have to stop trading and look into another profession. I read that if that DOES happen, I would have to re-apply to have 475 MTM removed?

TLDR:

  • Is it better to apply for 475 MTM as a sole individual (myself) or create a LLC / S-Corp and have that LLC be registered as 475 MTM?
  • Does applying as a sole individual (myself) cause issues down the road if I have to stop trading and look at another profession?

Thank you!

New Rav4 Ordering Questions (Custom Allocation vs. On TheLot)

Hello,

I am doing research on potentially getting 2 (1 for 2 separate family members) new generation 2027 Rav4 Hybrids. I have a few questions if someone who is familiar how it works ordering a new Rav4 or received one recently.

  • I called a local dealership, they told me they are currently selling them for $2,750 above MSRP but if I get 2, they will sell it to me for MSRP. Is this markup the common pricing for these cars due to popularity?
  • For other brands that I worked with when buying new, you would build a spec with a sales rep, put a down deposit, and if they have an allocation they will send it to the manufacturer HQ to get approved and eventually built. Is this the same for Toyota?
  • I guess going off the question above, the sales rep who I spoke with told me Toyota doesn't have allocations but you just build a spec, give them the spec, and they send it to Toyota HQ to be built with putting a 10% deposit down. It's a 2-4 month lead time but he mentioned no allocations. Another Reddit thread I saw from a few years ago said Toyota doesn't have allocations but just gets X amount of X configurations each month and if one matches your "custom spec", they will call people based on FCFS.
  • Last but important question - Does the Rav4 Hybrid deal with the big Corolla / Lexus Hybrid mild hybrid 12V issue where if you don't drive it for a week or 2, it dies? My Uncle has a Corolla hatch and has to drive it every 4 days or it will be dead after a week due to this issue.

Just trying to understand how Toyota works with Rav4s due to their popularity.

Thanks!

Are 2025-2026 M340i TCU Tune Different (Shifting)?

Hello,

I was wondering if the 2025+ models have different tuning for their transmission (I know its an updated transmission)?

The reason I'm asking because it seems like they have a stock ignition-cut shifts but when I google it, it says it doesn't. The upshifts sound super nice compared to Gen 2s.

Thanks!

Wrapping Interior Trim (Center Console)

Does anyone know if it's hard to wrap the interior center console trim? I'm looking at some 2025 models and it comes with the "Aluminum Rhombicle Anthracite" and it even though it says "Popular" on the BMW Build website, I just don't believe it.

It looks very cheap and almost annoying or is it just me? Carbon Fiber is definitely the option to pick if you are building it new but with such few allocations and mark ups, its hard to justify building new.

Has me thinking is it easy to wrap? The only hard part I can see is wrapping under the screen but other than that, has anyone done it?

Thanks!

EDIT:
This car pictured is not mine. Just used for reference for the trim

What Was Your New M340i Dealership Discount?

Hey guys,

Trying to figure out what the current discounts are for M340is (new on lot since I'm not sure if they're any more allocations. If custom, same thing) from your dealership and when you bought? Wonder if they will be willing to give a good discount since the new M50 is coming out soon.

I know BMW is having a 0.99/1.99% APR for financing new and I'm trying to find out if its worth it to buy. If I can get a 8-10% discount off sticker, I would say yeah. Otherwise, I might as well buy used since used is around 60k (2026 used with ~5k miles). 2025's are going for around 55k.

Thanks!

UPS Personal Mailbox Return Address

Hey!

So I've been using a business address as my return but unfortunately, I cannot use it anymore. Therefore, I am going to be buying a UPS personal mailbox as my return address.

If the USPS location is "123 Main Blvd Ste 321, Fake City, CA, 12345" and say I get PMB #32 or #32, does eBay accept this as a return address?

Would I just put:

  • Address 1: "123 Main Blvd Ste 321"
  • Address 2: "PMB 32" or "#32"
  • City: Fake City
  • State: CA
  • Postal: 12345

Just wondering since I've never used a P.O. box before.

Thanks!

Hi,

Finally received my 1st INR. My question is (it's for an ESE) if the item was carrier scanned (at origin) but not delivered, should I just refund him without messaging and open an insurance claim with eBay? Or do people still try and resolve it first before refunding (assuming that's mainly for INAD).

Thanks!
