Which of the 4 launch titles works best?

My M64 is still sitting unopened in the box because I wanted to wait for a few more updates and spare myself the disappointment of unfinished software. But the temptation is strong, and I think I'm finally going to unbox it today.

Which of the 4 games works best? I don't have any other N64 games (yet).

Why did ModRetro decide to release the M64 before it was ready?

I genuinely don't understand the decision. Look at the damage it has already done to the product's reputation: YouTube is full of reviews telling people to wait before buying, or to get an ANALogue 3D instead, while Reddit is packed with bug reports and issues.

What was the reason for shipping before the major problems were fixed???Was there pressure from "investors" or "financial targets"???

Because if there wasn't some external pressure forcing the release, it's hard to understand why launching in this state was considered better than waiting a little longer and making a strong first impression.

Shipping costs to the EU are ridiculously high

With the current shipping prices, I'm starting to wonder whether I'll be able to keep buying ModRetro products at all.

For just the two newest GBC games, I have to pay 142 EUR = $164.

After 10 years of shooting digital, I bought my first film camera [Fujifilm Klasse W, 28mm, Gold 200]

What I personally love most is that I don't have to spend hours editing thousands of RAW files anymore. I can simply drop the roll off at a lab and get the finished scans back :)

Another thing is how AI is creeping into everything. It is already being used for upscaling and deblurring, literally adding details that were never present in the original image. Film photography simply feels authentic, and that authenticity is becoming increasingly rare these days.

Must-own Nintendo 64 games?

I never owned a Nintendo 64 and never even had the chance to play one, so I have no nostalgia for the system. Still, I'm considering getting an M64 simply because I like ModRetro and what they're doing.

Which games would you consider the absolute best? I'm not looking for titles that are merely "good". I mean BEST OF THE BESTS games that would make your list if you could own only 5 games.

Thanks!

Enterprise plan feels almost useless compared to Max

I'm running two subscriptions in parallel. At work we have a company Enterprise (usage-based) plan with a 250 USD/month cap, and personally I use Max.

At home I use Claude way more intensively. I don't hold back at all - I have a bunch of hobby projects where Claude Code handles everything end to end. Some are pretty complex (ie. Quake engine with a reworked renderer), and some sessions take Claude 15-30 minutes to complete a task. And I rarely come close to hitting the Max limits.

At work, Enterprise usage is mostly chat and consulting, with occasional diagnostics - performance tuning, screenshots, that kind of thing. Nowhere near as intensive as my Max usage at home. In the last 2 days alone I burned over 120 USD on Enterprise. It costs a fortune and drains the budget fast.

The two plans aren't even comparable. My Enterprise usage feels like maybe 5% of what I get on Max for the price, if that. It's an order of magnitude less cost-effective.

This isn't a config or settings issue, it's just what usage-based pricing costs. What worries me is that usage-based plans are probably the more realistic pricing model going forward, and this might just be a preview of where things are headed for everyone.

I accidentally homelabbed

Made a fork of the QuakeWorld client (Quake 1) with full CI/CD on GitHub. But soemone reported an issue that it crashes on Intel GPU. I couldn't reproduce as I don't own Intel so I bought a fanless N150 mini PC, because obviously.

Fixed the bug and now I'm holding a perfectly good little computer with nothing to do.

AI told me that I should try "Proxmox" so I installed it and then bought a domain for a "server" that lives in my house and talks to no one. Now reading about reverse proxies. Turns out the mini PC gets along great with my Mikrotik router, so naturally that's a rabbit hole too now.

Plan now includes hosting Quake servers and a GitOps pipeline to auto-deploy releases

TLDR: wanted to fix a bug, got a homelab instead.

MP 0.72 + 1.25x/1.4x magnifier - do the exposure LEDs stay visible?

I have a question for anyone shooting a Leica MP 0.72 with the 1.25x or 1.4x viewfinder magnifier.

I don't own a Leica yet, but I'm planning to buy one and I'm trying to understand how this setup would actually work with a 50mm lens. To be clear: I already understand how the magnifier works and what the projected framelines are. Let's say I'd mainly use a 50mm lens and want to pick a magnifier that fits that setup well.

But here's my concern -- in every photo I've seen, the bottom of the rangefinder shows the left/right arrows (the exposure indicator) that help you set exposure. Am I right in thinking that a 0.72 finder combined with a 1.25x or 1.4x magnifier would crop those arrows out of view entirely? Since the magnifier enlarges the central part of the image, I'm worried the exposure arrows at the lower edge would no longer be visible.

Does anyone with this exact combo (MP 0.72 + magnifier) shoot like this and can confirm whether the metering arrows stay in view? I don't wear glasses, if that matters.

Thanks.

ModRetro, I'm begging you

ModRetro, please, please make proper storage trays for Game Boy cartridges - like the ones in the photo below. I've searched the entire internet and can't find anything genuinely good. There are tons of 3D-printed trays made by hobbyists, but they're not smooth and honestly look pretty rough. I might as well whittle something out of wood myself and it would come out just as "good".

In this thread someone shows PERFECT, flawless trays - but they're bought in Japan. I don't live in Japan. I'd happily import them if I knew who actually manufactures them: https://www.reddit.com/r/ModRetroChromatic/comments/1r6s8as/comment/o5tkv5v/

Could you please just produce simple cartridge storage trays like these????? BEGGING you - I'll order enough for 70 cartridges on day one :)

EDIT: changed "cases" to "storage trays" - fair point in the comments.

What are the chances the M64 gets SNES ROM playback?

Does anyone know if SNES ROMs will be playable on the M64 at some point?

Just wondering if anyone who's been following this more closely knows whether it's possible even via "community will get to it eventually" scenario
