"Is this now?"

After watching the show a few times, I'm beginning to think that the host's question: "Is this now?" might be a bit of an inside gag that recognizes that the frequent timeline shifts can be confusing.

Any suggestions for a digital unit thermometer (Genesis E-315)?

I am looking for a digital unit simply to monitor the surface temp of the grill, not the heat rising to the hood. I have meat probes already, but want a more accurate way to measure actual cooking temps.

July Update Issues

Following the July OTA update, I have experienced the following:

* Android Auto always comes. It's configured to only come on if AA was last used, but it is now the default.

* The climate settings come on randomly, like steering wheel heater, driver only activated.

* A slightly funny feel when driving under 30mph, like very subtle lurching.

The car only has 2.2k on it. Anyone else experiencing issues?

Android Auto V17+ Features

I am running AA V17.4.6 (Beta) which allegedly is supposed to be the long awaited update to AA. Unfortunately, this version only change seems to include the 3D map option and a Material Design tweak. Because there is a ton of confusing and contradictory information floating around about the "big drop," I am not really sure what has rolled out and what hasen't. My understanding is that we should be seeing some significant change (e.g., adding widgets, slide out app drawer, additional material design elements/changes, etc.).

There also is the long awaited ability to stream videos (when parked), without the need for a third-party device. I am curious if that will happen and if it does, if this requires afirmware update from Hyundai to allow the casting/streaming.

Is any running the "big drop" version of AA that was not sideloaded?

Pro Tip: Lens Cleaning

Okay, it feels a little arrogant for me to use the word "Pro," but you know what I mean. The tip is...

Stash a few of those pre-moistened eyeglass/camera lens cleaning packets in your car. Those work great if you find that the camera lenses look dirty. They also work great if you want to clean off the entertainment display. It's also great to keep a small microfiber towel, or one of those eyeglass lens cleaning cloths in the car as well. Once you use the moistened packet, follow it up by wiping the surface down with a small cloth.

Caution: Do not clean the camera lens by wiping it off with your finger. This can damage the lenses protective surface over time. If there's a a buildup of dust or dirt on the lens, the best approach is to irrigate it with something like Windex. You want to flood away the debris before you wipe the lens clean. Wiping the lens with your finger can also transfer skin oils onto the lens surface, giving a hazy look to camera image.

Lighted Badge

I think it would be kind of cool to have the front and back Hyundai logo badges to be either lit, or backlit.

Has anyone tried this, or know of anyone who has done a swap for a lighted badge?

New Amazon Purchase Import

Does anyone have any experience with this new feature? We currently do not use any of the bank/credit card import features because the data comes in messy and then needs manual clean up. I am wondering if the Amazon import feature may end up with the same issue.

Google Assistant/Gemini Rant

WHAT

THE

HECK????

Google's Assistant/Gemini when used through a Home device have deteriorated significantly, to the point where the service is utterly useless. Lately, it seems unable to answer even a very basic question. Meanwhile, Alexa handles just about everything we throw at her. I have never heard "her" utter the phrase "I'm sorry, I don't understand that question." Google's basic go to response.

I have a question, the Home device we most often use to ask Google a question is a Google Hub Max (pre-Nest) so it's probably 5 years old, maybe more. Is it possible that the age of the Hub is somehow limiting what we can do with Google Assistant/Gemini services via the Hub? This is similar to how some newer phones support AI and other older models don't.

Map Preference (OEM vs Google vs Waze)

What is your "go to" map preference and why? Each seems to have their own inherent strengths and weaknesses. The Mrs. and I are planning a long car trip down the East Coast, so that is the genesis of this question.

I tend to use Google Maps over other options, but found that it falls on its face when it comes to recommending alternate routing when there is a traffic delay ahead. Alternate routes are often just as crowded. Conversely, this tends to be where Waze shines due to its crowdsourcing model.

I have only used the OEM navigation locally and was happy to see a recent update now supports realtime updates. I have no experience with how the OEM navigation handles traffic delays.

Thanks in advance for any input from Team Santa Fe!!!!!

Slate vs. RM

Anyone in the RM community have prior experience with the Amazon Scribe? I understand that it's a great ePub reader, but kinda weak on the notetaking side.

Now that I am retired, I don't have as much need for the notetaking capability as when I was working. I do love my RM, but it's lacking as an ePub reader since it offers limited capabilities in that area.

Edit: Scribe, not Slate

Streaming Lossless (FLAC) Music

My Santa Fe has the Bose Premium Sound system. Spotify recently began to support the Lossless format. After trying out some tracks from Spotify via Bluetooth, I was not able to tell much of a difference.

After some research and consulting an audio guy, here is what I learned:

* Bluetooth technology (Codex) is not yet at the place where it can stream uncompressed Lossless. It's too much data. Not only does this affect streaming to a car's head unit, but any Bluetooth based audio receiver (e.g., headphones).

* You can use Android Auto or CarPlay which if wireless, bypasses Bluetooth.

* You can also use a wired connection between the phone and the car, provided that the cable is rated for data transfer.

* He suggested also turning off the CenterPoint feature.

Many of you might already know this, but I wanted to share what I found.

Gemini - OMG

Gemini is so much worse than "Assistant." This was today's interaction:

Me: "What is the closest World Cup game to <my city>?"

Gemini: [After 20 seconds] "I'm sorry, but there are no World Cup games being played this year."

Media Favorites - Eureka!

I was poking around and found a way to deal with setting media Favorites to be listed first. Sadly, this only works for XM, but at least it's something. Basically, it pins any favorited channels to the top of the XM channel list.

  1. Select Media

  2. Select XM

  3. Press the Hamburger menu

  4. Tick the box for "Favorites first"

Status Bar Dimmed in BT Audio Full Screen Mode

Hi,

My 2026 SF is showing the status bar as dimmed. I can't seem to figure out how to correct this. My last OTA was today.

You can see this in the attached image, just above the media display.

Any thoughts?

Unbelievably Excellent Dealer Service

To make a long story short, I purchased a 2026 Sante Fe Calligraphy Hybrid in mid-February. The finish was Brass Matte, which is beautiful.

Three weeks back, I happened to park next to an identical SF. That's when I noticed that they didn't look the same. His was truly matte and mine was satin. Then I started to take note that my hood had shiny spots. I got the sinking feeling that the dealer may have applied the Zurich Shield to the exterior of the car, not just the interior.

I raised the issue with the dealer, who wanted me to bring the car in. The manager met me and as soon as he saw it, he was like "Nope, that's not right." He called out his head of detailing who also said that the finish looks wrong. His guess was that "his guys" may have applied the Zurich Shield to the car, just not thinking.

The manager turned to me and said, "Would you like us to put you in another car?" After about 30 minutes, I chose one in Rockford Green. As much as I like the matte, I decided it wasn't worth the stress. The dealer was also able to maintain the same finance agreement (0%) so my prior payments applied. The new car had a few extra options that my first didn't. The whole process took 1.5 business days.

This dealer responded in a way I didn't expect. No obfuscation, foot dragging, or trying to do the least possible to resolve this. They also will repay me for the cost of the original Zurich Shield upsale. Icing on the cake.

Wow!

Digital Keys and Phone OS Updates

05/27/2026 Update - After a few days, I find that this did not solve the issue of my Santa Fe not recognizing NFC on my phone, unless it sitting directly on the NFC pad.

A while back, I posted a strange issue that started happening with my Digital Key. I think I figured out the issue.

The problem started after a recent phone OS update (Android). I figured one remediation option was to delete and recreate the Key, so I did.

This seemed to resolve the issue.

Anthem/CarelonRx - Refill Eligibility and Delivery Timetables

We have been experencing issues with getting my son's medication refilled in a timely manner. The issue is that CarelonRx has a refill eligibility date that is basically when his supply is exhausted. The problem is that it can take from 7 - 15 days for the refill to be shipped and eventually delivered. This makes no sense. They have basically built a system that guarantees that folks will go without their meds waiting on CarelonRx to deliver the refill.

Yes, we can use our local CVS, but that means he needs to move to a 30 day schedule, which is not only a hassle, but it costs him more in co-pays.

Does anyone know if there is a way for CarelonRx to start processing the refill sooner? As long as he gets the refill delivered after the eligibility date, that should meet the FDA's rules.
