Increasing WW before ST 5 month old

Planning to ST this weekend at 22 weeks old (just turned 5 months). Currently following 1.5/1.75/1.75/1.75/2 and per my post yesterday I was told to move to 10 hrs wake time so today we did 2/2/2/2/2 (last one still pending) with all contact naps of 35 min, 1.75 hrs, 30 min and 35 min.

She did really well and usually she cries or screams when we start rocking for nap and today she just babbled and for a few minutes and then fell right asleep. She did get fussy in the middle of the WW but we just changed the environment and she pushed over the hump! TY!

Would it be reasonable to do this for another day and then attempt the 3 nap 10 hour WW schedule since we need that to ST?

4 month old has peanut allergy - smaller doses

We gave our almost 5 month old PB last week as she has eczema and her sister has a cashew pistachio allergy. She did fine with 1/4 and 1/2 tsp and then reacted to 1 tsp with a red rash 4 hours later on her neck/chin.

The allergist said since she was doing well on 1/2 tsp to give her 1/2 tsp daily and then we can reevaluate if she keeps doing well as we don’t want to eliminate from her diet and cause an allergy. We did 1/2 tsp yesterday and she ended up vomiting 2 hours later and hives/red rash 5 hours later. The allergist said she now has a peanut allergy so stop all peanut products.

Anyone have a similar experience? And what was the outcome? Just wanted to get some reassurance if any

Introducing allergens in baby with sibling allergies

Our 4 year old has a cashew pistachio allergy (never had it but tested positive for it when we did a panel due to her eczema as a baby). Since then she’s never eaten them. She also tested positive for milk and eggs as a baby via skin test but outgrew these at 1 year old.

Now her baby sister is 4 months. And we are told
To start allergens introduction soon. We saw an allergist today and they said that we don’t have to test baby (she has mild eczema) and can give the allergens. He prescribed an auvi q just incase for us per our request.

We are nervous. But we didn’t want to skin test the baby and get false positives before we expose her to the foods.

Thoughts on this?

Sleep training at 19 weeks — are our wake windows/schedule appropriate before starting Ferber?

We’re planning to start Ferber with our 19-week-old (4 months) at the end of this week and would love some feedback on our schedule before we begin.

Current schedule:

  • DWT: 7:00 AM
  • 4 naps
  • Wake windows: 1.5 / 1.75 / 1.75 / 1.75 / 2
  • Total wake time: 8.75 hours
  • Bedtime: Usually between 7–8 PM depending on the last wake window

Naps are typically around 30 minutes, except for the second nap, which we extend to about 2 hours with a contact nap. For the other naps, we rock her to sleep and then transfer her to the crib. The second nap is usually fully contact.

At bedtime, she wears a sleep sack, we use a sound machine, and the room is almost completely blackout.

Currently, bedtime usually gives us a 4–5 hour first stretch, but after that she wakes every 1–2 hours. After around 3 AM, it becomes especially difficult to get her back down—she mostly wants to be held or nursed back to sleep and needs a lot of help staying asleep

She is not sleep trained yet, and we're planning to start Ferber at the end of this week.

Before we start, I’d love feedback on:

Do our wake windows and 8.75 hours of total wake time look appropriate for 19 weeks/4 months? Would you make any schedule changes before starting Ferber? Is there anything else you would adjust or establish before night one?

Would also love to hear from anyone who had a similar pattern of a good first stretch followed by frequent wakes and difficult sleep after 3 AM—did sleep training help with those wakes too?

4 YO has allergies, now have a baby 4 months?

Our 4 year old daughter has cashew and pistachio allergies (never had them but continues to test highly
Positive after skin and blood tests at one year old due to severe eczema.

Now we have a 4 month old who is breastfed (our first didn’t show too much eczema until we had to switch from BM to formula). We want to expose her to allergens early. Our Ped says to wait and do blood work before exposing. Allergist says to expose early. Any experience with this?

Increasing WW during 4month regression

How to increase Wake Windows during the four month regression if the baby is perpetually overtired due to not sleeping well at night? We are at 1.25/1.5/1.5/1.75/2 and can barely make it to these without being tired

EBF 4 Month old - bassinet

Our 17 week old gives us one long stretch from about 8 PM to midnight or 1 AM. After that when I nurse her and try to unlock her after about 30 minutes when she slows down her sucking, she starts to scream and wants to keep latching and nursing. This ends up being a 2 to 3 hour thing at night, where I’m holding her and feeding her or nursing her on and off and then when we try to settle her into the bassinet, she wakes up screaming. I just don’t want to have to hold her throughout the whole night from 1 AM to 7 AM straight off between me and my husband because we feel like we are not holding her properly whereas she can be lying in the bassinet on her back.

any suggestions?

Planning to ST 17 week old, checking if WW are appropriate?

We are planning to sleep train our 17 week old when she turns 4 months later this week. Currently, we rock her for every nap and for bedtime before placing her down in the crib for naps and bassinet for bedtime. We are on four naps and all naps are about 35 minutes and then she wakes up, we put her down 10 minutes after she falls asleep after rocking. For the second nap, I nurse her to sleep and hold her for about 2-2 1/2 hours for a longer nap.

The last two nights for bedtime she wakes up as soon as we put her down in the bassinet. Before, if we held her for 20 minutes after rocking her to sleep for bedtime, and put her down, she would stay asleep for 4 to 6 hours but last night, we had to hold her to sleep the whole night and she nursed most of the night while I held her.

We are currently following wake windows of 1.5/1.5/1.5/1.75/1.75 since the last day or two.

I have a few questions before we start to sleep train:

  1. Since we rock her to sleep or nurse her to sleep, how do we know if the wake windows are appropriate before we sleep train? Since we soothe and rock her to sleep, we cannot tell if she is under or overtired because she ends up falling asleep at some point.

  2. We have been taking her 15 minutes before the end of the wake window into her room, putting on her sleep sack and telling her that it’s time for a nap and turning off the lights with her in our hands. The last 2 days, every time we walk into the room and put on her sleep sack in the crib before picking her up to rock her, she’s been crying loud. Is this mean overtired or she’s starting to associate the room with sleep (4 month regression?)

  3. Should we start with naps or bedtime for ST? Since we EBF, if she wakes up in the middle of the night, how do we know if we should feed her or use our sleep training method to put her back to sleep?

  4. For a 17 week old, is it better to start with extinction or Ferber method with check ins? If we do Ferber, how many days should we try until we know that the check-ins are not helping her?

Thank you in advance! We STed our older daughter at 5 months with extinction and remembered her crying a lot because we couldn't get the WW right before starting so want to make sure we are prepped this time.

TY!

3.5 month old - short naps

Our 3.5 month old has been rocked for all naps and bedtime since birth. We place her in the crib after rocking her when she is asleep for 10 minutes and then we put her in the crib. She usually wakes up after one sleep cycle, which is 34 minutes for her. We do one two hour nap which is a contact nap. For bedtime, we rock her to sleep and put her in the crib. She gives us about a five hour stretch and then is up usually every 1 to 2 hours to feed. We want to start some independent sleep techniques without fully doing cry out or sleep training. More so for naps to get her used to sleeping on her own at least for longer stretches.

Any advice or something that has worked for you if your baby sleeps for more than 35 minutes on their own?

3.5 month old, transition out of swaddle

Our 3.5 month old used to give us a five hour stretch and then would be up every hour or two when she was swaddled. Now she has been rolling from back to belly so we have transitioned her to a sleep sack cold turkey.

We rock to sleep and then place her down after holding for 20 minutes when she is asleep. The last night or two we have had success in putting her down but she wakes up after about 20 to 30 minutes. By the time it is midnight, we just end up holding her to sleep because she ends up nursing most of the night and we get so exhausted. I have not tried the sleep sack for nap time since we usually contact nap or we are watching the monitor like the hawk to make sure she does not roll and she naps for 35 minutes when she naps in the crib.

Advice and suggestions on transitioning to a sleep sack and how to help their reflex go away? What has worked for you to get longer stretches? We do the whole putting their butt down and then putting the hand on their chest, etc etc. so we put her down reallly slowly.

Slow weight gain and no fullness feeling

Currently EBF my 3 month old daughter (my first I wasn’t able to BF due to latching issues and lack of knowledge). With my current baby, she was born 6 lbs 3 oz and gained her birth weight back in 3 weeks. My husband and I are small people (5 ft and 5.2) so
Our first was also a small baby and always 2-3 percentile when she got formula.

With this baby, she’s been gaining quite slowly (ex. She was 9 lbs 3 oz on 7/6 and 10 lbs 12 oz on 8/17). I don’t mind her being smaller but what stresses me out is if she’s getting enough and if she’s getting some milk, could she be able to take even more this whole time?

She seems content after feeds, has diapers, poops once a day. Sometimes the diapers aren’t soaked and just wet.

I feed on demand, drink lots of water, usually take my vitamins but def miss sometimes, eat oatmeal and drink coconut water. I started to power pump at night yday. I don’t feel as full anymore as I did early on but when baby sucks, I can hear the swallows.

Any advice to help baby maintain or gain a little more? I always feel like I’m not making enough if I don’t feel
Full full. Is this normal?

12 week BF baby not gaining

My 12 week old baby has always been on the lower percentile, like 2 to 3% and has been following at her own curve. My husband and I are very small people and our first daughter has always been from 2 to 5% also.

The baby does have a slight lip tie, but I don’t have any pain with breast-feeding and she’s transferring about 2.5 to 3 ounces at each feed. The dentist also said that it’s not a significant tie. I tried to feed her more but she just un latches herself and seems really content. She is petite so I am wondering if she has a smaller stomach? I feed her about two hours. I tried to do a feed at the beginning of the wake window and then a little feed right before when she goes for a nap.

Up until a few weeks ago, she was gaining about an ounce a day however now it has become about 0.4 ounces a day in the last 3-4 days, she has not really gained at all and she is just under 10 pounds at 12 Wks. She’s been having plenty of diapers. When I pump, I am getting about 3.5 ounces every two hours.

She goes to bed around 9 PM and I pump around 11:30 PM since she sleeps till about 4 AM. This is the only time I really pump.

Could there be any other reason except transfer, not enough supply? Like anything that has to do with the composition of my milk? I eat plenty of calories, but I think I need to eat more protein and fat.

Anyone has been in the same situation and what has helped for you? Looking for any help desperately.

Independent naps at 8 weeks

We have held our eight week old for naps since she was born or rocked her to sleep. We have put her in the bassinet to sleep once she was asleep, but haven’t put her awake.

Anyone have good experience of transitioning to putting baby down awake and letting them fall asleep on their own without crying? We don’t mind trying, but we don’t think that we can hear the cries

Right now, usually rock her and she can go down for about 40 minutes in the crib until she wakes up again and then usually needs to be held.

Our first daughter be sleep trained at five months but want to take it a little easier this time and just form good sleep habits if we can

7 week old naps - help please

We have a 7 week old who we have not implemented any sleep training or similar techniques on. She is able to distinguish night and day as she gives us a 3-3.5 hour stretch after we put her down around 8/9pm. And then wakes up twice more in the middle of the night for a quick feed and falls asleep.

We want to start some good sleeping habits for naps as all naps right now are contact naps and usually is nursed to sleep. If I’m rocking her, she roots and cries until I nurse but then falls asleep. Sometimes we are able to rock her and put her in her crib after holding for 10 min until in deep sleep. We will get one sleep cycle of a nap before she wakes up and cries. We also do carrier naps

We stated to loosely follow wake windows this week or 1 hr for the first and then 1.25 for the rest except last one ends up being like 1.5-1.75 at times if she takes longer contact naps during the day.

Anyone able to help a 7-8 week old follow some independent sleep routines? We are all okay with contact naps and nursing to sleep for now but I have a toddler so being available for her too is important to me.
