Tasty MK

Anyone know what’s happening with Tasty MK chip shop in Broughton? I made an order via their website this evening (I’ve used it before) and turned up to collect only to find it closed. The money was taken out of my account anyway 😣 Tried calling but just left a voicemail. Obviously I want to get my money back - but hope all is okay and it all seems a bit strange. And also I’m still hungry 🙃

My best friend (50F) of 30 years and I (49F) have been arguing for a month - how can we move this forward?

My best friend and I started living together about 5 years ago when she got ill and I became her carer. Most of the time it’s been okay, but we’re both peri-menopausal and over the past year there have been many arguments. She loses her temper very quickly, and I get upset and cry very quickly, and although sometimes the arguments have lasted a few days I usually back down, she calms down and we’ve been okay again.

However she has become more unwell recently, and has had a close family bereavement and a close family illness - and the pressure of dealing with all of this means the atmosphere at home has gotten harder and harder to deal with. She gets panic attacks and tends to lash out in those moments, and attack me - and because I’m struggling to with my own hormones I get defensive and although I try not to argue back, somehow it keeps happening.

Over the past month this has escalated out of control and she has become physically and verbally abusive - way worse than ever before. She regularly threatens to kill me, she has broken things I care about, she insults my family and my life and everything really. I try to stay calm but she pushes and pushes until I break - at least that’s how it feels to me. She says I push and push and am making her more ill and that my behaviour is disgustingly and disgraceful. I’ve tried giving her space, tried apologising (although not sure what for) and explaining and nothing helps. She keeps blaming me for this argument but I don’t think that’s fair - I’ve taken accountability for my part but she refuses to
Acknowledge her part.

The problem is she still needs me for practical help so I can’t just leave - although I have ended up staying in a hotel or sleeping in my car a few times as I’ve not felt safe at home. Plus I don’t want this long friendship to end like this. We’ve always been each others support - but now she doesn’t trust me at all.

I’m now enemy no 1. She said tonight that seeing anything that belongs to me or sensing I’m in the house is giving her PTSD and making her more ill.

She says that if she scratches the surface then I’m nasty and attack her - I don’t believe this is true, I do get upset very quickly but I’m so worn down by all of this and she is horrid and hurtful in those moments.

I don’t know how to get us out of this.

Petrol charges

Today when I got petrol I used the Shell app, set it to £30 as the limit. When I was filling up it stopped at £28.71. But as you can see I was still charged £30. What’s going on? I’ve noticed this before but never spotted a credit in my bank account at any point 🤔

Edit: okay I get it now. I’ll check it again in a week! Thanks all

Part time accommodation

I have a job I love in Northampton, but for family reasons I’m having to relocate to Sheffield. I’m trying to figure out if I can make a commute work - work from home Monday, drive down early on a Tuesday and stay somewhere for three nights then drive back up Friday evening. My job is flexible so some weeks I might be able to work from home even more and save on a night’s accommodation.

Anyway - my question is - what do I do about accommodation in Northampton? Hotels are too expensive, self catering would be better but would anywhere guarantee me three nights every week? Is this just an impossible scenario?

Can you suggest a 50th birthday activity for someone who is housebound?

I’m a carer for my best friend who is turning 50 next month. She is chronically ill - and her symptoms include extreme vertigo, fatigue and pain. It means that she can’t leave the house at the moment, can’t look at screens (no tv, no phones) and struggles to look down or up as it brings on vertigo.

For her birthday I wanted to do some sort of activity - like a craft, making something, something that me, her (elderly) mum and my friend could all do together so that she at least has a nice memory from the day and maybe something she can keep forever. It would need to be something we could do at home, doesn’t require a lot of skill or time, but be fun and keep us entertained.

I just want her to have a nice day - she used to be super active, travel all over, go to gigs all the time, and I know she will be struggling this year. Any suggestions?

Edit - I’m overwhelmed by all the kind and creative suggestions, thank you all for being so lovely 🌸

Upgrading to a Kindle Paperwhite

I’ve had my Kindle for forever, it’s one of the earliest ones that were available. I love it because it’s so lightweight but I do wish it had a back light.

Now it’s time to upgrade to a Paperwhite, but I can only afford an older one. What generation would you recommend that is likely to last a good while?
