First record player at 38. Bought it by leaving some money under a rock on a porch in rural Santa Fe, NM. Folks, I think we’re in business

CL listing. Lady says she isn’t home during the day but she’ll leave it on the porch for me. Said to leave cash on the porch lol. Here’s one of my first plays. Of course you need some Earth, Wind and Fire 🔥

Restoring interesting speakers with lost repair manuals and 0 online articles. Bose 701 Series II with active subwoofers

I love picking speakers off marketplace/craigslist, cleaning them up and flipping some, keeping others. I love audio and have been into the hobby since I was a teenager but have never done any hands-on restoration minus a pair of Bose 901 reform. Before I crack into restoring my beloved Infinitys, I thought I’d try my hand and these Bose 701s I found for a crisp Benjamin.
Unique and Weird is pretty much the only way Bose rolls and these are no exception. I had a passive, series 1 pair of Bose 701s that were a very cool design. And these are their second generation with a similar design- utilizing a 3 way system, midrange firing at the rear wall at an angle with an open baffle cabinet, 3” tweeter and 2.5” stereo targeting tweeter, with a powered 8” woofer on each end. I got these for cheap because the vinyl veneer is peeling.

Plugged them in and was surprised they’re functional for being from 2001. This was the last 3 way speaker Bose ever made and was least loved and I can’t really see why. Following the set up instructions they’re huge fun for classical. They paint a massive picture of the orchestra albeit at times raked a little high in image height. Anyway, I noticed big bass sometimes made the speakers distort. With the help of my clanker friend, Claude, I’ve been diagnosing the amp (it’s a daisy chain so all lives in the left channel). Think you guys could double check his work? Like I said, new to actually working on amps and speakers but understand the general concepts and terms. Any help appreciated!

A evening little Coltrane on the Infinitys. Our chi, enjoying the sounds

So these Infinity Kappa 7.1s were the same price used as my Focal Chora 816s- actually slightly cheaper and…there is simply no comparison. Sometimes, old is gold. Quality lasts.

Wild Kappa 7.1s appeared on marketplace… had to snag um.

My new favorite speakers. After discovering the “old Infinity” from my RS6 Bs my mind was blown 🤯 . I jumped on these beauts made from 92-96 when I saw them on marketplace. No regrets. Big low end, lovely mids, and of course those emit highs 👌

Pre-heating the Aventage with the Kappas, how do you guys like your burgers?

Had a few and cranked the Kappa 7.1s last night. Good lord I love these things. The GoldenEar Triton 5 is out and these are in. I get why they are power hungry. The power and depth these things (with help from my B&W 10” DB4S) can render orchestras and percussion simply doesn’t match. Don’t get me wrong, I love the GoldenEars and spec-wise they go quite a bit lower (28hz for the GEs, 39hz for the 7.1s) but the GEs simply can’t match the power these things convey. Big thick cabinet and baffle along with some juice from my Yamaha Aventage A4A these Infinitys are keepers. The emit-R is very lovely, things like xylophones renter so clearly and cleanly in 3D it puts goosebumps on the back of your neck.

Was blessed by marketplace Jesus yesterday, fully functional and glorious Infinity Kappa 7.1

I am quite sore from carrying these both by myself and up stairs lol but oooh happy day. Fell in love with my RS6Bs and wow these are those on steroids with 12 inch woofers 😍 I think these are the forever speakers, guys.

iCloud hell and integrating old photos onto new cloud. Trying to get old files and pics off my mid 2011 MBA onto my new Mac

Been running into walls for the past 3 hours simply trying to get old files and folders from my old Mac onto my M3 MBA. I’m exhausted.

I backed my old MBA onto an external HD with Time Machine and then the computer only really gave me the option to create a separate account identical to my old account on my new Mac. This is because my photos appear in a .photolibrary format where they appear to be compressed into some DRM type file from the old program iPhotos. (The originals located within this folder react the same way described below)

Originally it let me open the .library file in photos and view them on the new Mac. (Mistake?) I log into iCloud on the newly created login. The photos opens and I hit “sync to cloud photos” the switch turns on but I don’t see any syncing. Re-log into my iCloud on all devices and I still don’t see any of the new photos downloading. When I log into iCloud it asks if I want my documents folder synced to my cloud files. I agree and go back to photos. Now when I try and open the photos, it says it can’t open the photos because the library is no longer on the HD only on the cloud 😫 and now I can’t even open the library nor do I see the old photos on my cloud photos.

TLDR: just want my old fucking photos and writing samples from my old intel MBA on either my M3 MBA main account or iCloud preferably both. I asked Claude Opus 4.8 and it suggested finding the .photolibrary file, right clicking to “get info” and check “shared folder” which doesn’t seem to do anything. When I try to drag the file itself into shared folders it just is grey or bounces back. ANY help is appreciated. I still have the HD with the original back up and the old MBA still intact.

Got the 70s 301s 👌man I wish I had a pool room for these!

Great bar speakers, especially when you get a little boost from the Bowers sub. Unfortunately I have no room for these gems

I 3D printed new grills for my Bose 301 series II. What do you guys think?

(The black plastic piece) decided to paint the logos gold instead of silver.

What type of donuts does your Fast like?

Could use some clean up of the design but v1.0 I printed for my bf. Loved the old GTI fast campaign and remembered the goofy ads lol

7A Classic Royal: smooth, easy stripes. 9A Royal? Mmm delicious floor mat…

Just got this Classic to compare to my work horse 9 amp. Very smooth and nice sounding machine unlike the deafening sound of the 9. Cleaning is similar, although I think the 9 amp does a better job simply because the adjuster isn’t exactly right on the classic. Will be reworking the axels on the 7 since it was restored many years ago but looks like a slightly rusted wheel and adjuster could use some love.

Infinity RS6B restoration project, how to repair these textured edges

Hey vintage audio lovers,

So here are my prized Infinity RS6-Bs that I’m restoring. I freaking love these things…even, dare I say more than my reference speakers. I’d love to get them up to full spec.

  1. Does anyone have experience repairing these sort of ruffled edges? They appear to be glued onto the curved wood surface. One has come loose about 6 inches from the top of the speaker (pictured).

  2. How easy/difficult is a crossover refresh? They sound pretty nice but I imagine they need one. I’m afraid to take it apart and ruin it. Any references to any good picture-rich diagrams that aren’t archived? My search seems to come up lacking for a complete guide.

Millennial here but technically Spotify says I’m 68 lol. Saw these for a song on CL in good working order and couldn’t resist. They sound fantastic! I’ve had a lot of Bose stuff in the past but not anything from this era (manufactured date ~1976-1982). I’ve heard these things at random bars and peoples homes throughout the years and thought they sounded nice. They really do. Sort of like a day dream of your music, you can just kick back and enjoy them like a jukebox. These are probably the most musical of all the 301s I’ve had and very spacious sound. If you see a pair, a great vintage speaker to pick up.

Still working on my positioning so I can spike them but heard a pair of these more than a decade ago and just loved how well engineered the sound was. If you’re never heard Golden Ears, their speakers are like those from Vandersteen. Just someone who really knows how to make a speaker showing other manufacturers how it’s done. Driver integration is flawless, just a tiny sprinkle of brightness in their very neutral timbre. Bass is great and they integrate well with our B&W sub. Trying to get the imaging to the level of the Aons (which surprisingly disappear super easily) with the room acoustics. Currently working with some Costco slat panels and some Sonex (not in the shot). It’s funny getting such a high-end speakers remind you your upgraded Yamaha is good but not amazing, and your room acoustics need work 😅 and now I have a GE theater minus my Martin Logan center. I feel like the luckiest guy!!
