I took this natural green tourmaline and gave it a complete hand-cut transformation.
The original emerald cut had good color, but I wanted to create something more unique. Every groove and facet in the fantasy cut was cut and polished by hand to produce a different light pattern while preserving the beauty of the stone.
This natural citrine started as a classic emerald cut. I recut it by hand into a custom fantasy cut with a geometric pavilion pattern to give it a completely different look and brighter light performance.

A client requested something more unique than standard faceting, so I recut these three gemstones into custom hand-carved designs.
Before: Two tourmalines and one iolite in standard faceted cuts.
After: Each stone was individually hand carved while preserving the original dimensions as closely as possible.

At first glance, losing 0.63 carats may seem like a compromise. In reality, it can be one of the best decisions a gem cutter makes.
The top image shows the original 5.63 CT Bio Amethyst with a standard commercial cut. While attractive, the faceting doesn’t fully maximize the stone’s optical performance.
After careful planning, the stone was precision recut into a fantasy cut, resulting in a final weight of 5.00 CTS. During recutting, the cutter intentionally removes areas that contribute little to beauty—such as windows, uneven proportions, or poorly aligned facets. Every new facet is placed to improve how light enters, reflects, and returns to the viewer.
The result is a gemstone with:
