Started with a pair of natural pink tourmaline rough crystals and transformed them into this hand-carved matching pair. I love showing the journey from rough material to finished gemstone—it really highlights what skilled lapidary work can achieve.

Tanzanite is one of the most fascinating gemstones in gemology due to its strong pleochroism and unique blue-violet color.

The gemstone is a blue-to-violet variety of zoisite and is found in only one known location near Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Its color is primarily caused by traces of vanadium within the crystal structure.

One of Tanzanite’s most interesting properties is trichroism, meaning it can display blue, violet, and burgundy/brown hues when viewed from different crystallographic directions.

This cushion-cut bi-color amethyst displays both saturated purple amethyst and colorless quartz within the same crystal. The distinct separation of colors is the result of variations in iron concentration and natural irradiation during crystal growth.
