I didn’t really know where to reach out to, and this was the only space that really feels safe.

It’s coming up to 2 years without my Dad-it would have been his birthday next Saturday. So this week has been tough.

Police have just recently opened the case for investigation for negligent manslaughter, finally.

I’m in the last 2 weeks of a gruelling year of training and completing a Masters in Specialist Community Public Health, and have an assignment pending, but got signposted to Eye Casualty with a suspected inflammatory issue I’ve had before.
I arrived at 8am, had all the scans and tests, and by 10:30am, I was told I needed urgent same day laser surgery, and another surgery within 3 days, and they might save my sight in the problem eye.
Thank fuck for socialised healthcare, because I got squeezed onto the end of one list and the beginning of another, and by 13.15, I’d had both the laser and the second surgery done, prescription drops in hand, and an appointment for tomorrow with no cost.

I’m feeling really scared, to be honest, and really lonely. I have no family nearby, and after my Dad died, I struggled with my mental health, and cut off my entire social circle.

Can I get a hail for surviving having multiple needles, laserw, probes, gas injectors and cryo-tips poked into my eye today?

Also welcome:
-Any pod recommendations for while I’m laid up?
-And any no-cook, no-pouring, no-depth perception required meal ideas??

I’m crap at titles, but this is intended to be a humorous post!
And I’d for all y’all to share your humour hacks, things you don’t really care about, but kinda miss, and little joyful, silly ways to get by.

The reason I’m posting is because I had a really crap run of luck the last two weeks. What started as a routine eye test turned into an ophthalmology emergency, got side tracked by a medical emergency & hospital admission.
On review, the ophthalmological “emergency” was less an emergency, more a “oh yeah, your body sucks like that sometimes, but also there’s a new problem.”

I’m home from hospital after a week, and while I have a lot of floaters all the time (making typical ophthalmologists panic), but this time I have a Weiss ring floater in one eye, and two, very obvious floaters in the left.
The “new problem” is my brain isn’t adjusting to ignoring them.

So, naturally, because I’m getting frustrated at how they’re blocking my vision, I needed to name them, so they know who I’m growling at each time.
The lower, big, dark, zigzagging one is Ziggy Stardust, while the more central, swirling smoke-like one is Swirly Temple.
The Weiss ring is just “That fuck”, for now.

I’ve also realised while recuperating, aka browsing the sales, that while I don’t miss wearing cardigans/jackets/fleeces/coats (I hated them because sensory issues, I don’t need the to medication induced heat regulation issues), I do miss the fashion and the drama I used to be able to induce with a good velvet coat or a the cozy look of pastel mountain-scape fleece.

What about everyone else?
I’d love a good round-out of named symptoms/body parts, little things you don’t miss, but kinda do, or whatever humour you want to share!
