Appetite changes associated with schedule changes?

I am one of the types who has struggled with being overweight my whole life. I'm a night owl by nature, but have to conform to society's schedule.

That was never more true when I was a Uni student and classes started at 9 am every day. After graduation, I was hired as a temporary contractor at a factory that had 3 shifts. I volunteered to take 3rd shift, 11pm-7am.

I got to spend 6 months living life on night shift and it was GLORIOUS. The strangest part is how I lost my appetite and the excess weight just fell off of me. I dropped 50 pounds (23 kg) within those 6 months!

It was not unlike the action of a GLP drug (which I am now on) but without the side effects, and 20 years before they came onto the market for weight loss.

Has anyone else been able to live on nightshift and had their appetite change?

And, more curiously, makes me wonder if forcing a night owl to live as a day walker could mess with metabolism and be a cause of overweight? Is there existing research on this?

When Americans refer to the Northwest of their country, why is "Pacific" added in front?

Does Pacific Norrhwest refer to some specific part of the Northwest? Is there a non-pacific Northwest that it must be distinguished from?

Would anyone post their well-healed or old FDL scars?

I'd love to see pictures from real people, with regular results, not just the best results or fresh results they like to show off.

Muscle repair: for diastasis recti only or also to tighten abdomen with no DR?

I see "muscle repair" tossed around casually a lot. It's usually specifically in relation to diastasis recti.

I'm still in the research phase and I'm having a tough time finding info online about whether muscle repair is only for DR or if laxity in the abdominal wall can be addressed during a TT where there is no DR.

I'm assuming at this point that I don't have DR because I can't feel any. Of course, I may be wrong, but I'm still wondering if this can be addressed?

Best supplement for joint pain?

I think my daughter's joint pain is due to residual joint damage caused by previously active infection which seems to be in remission overall now. It is just in the heat or when overworked that the joint pain is bothersome.

There are a lot of scammy looking joint supplements out there, targeting many different types of joint pain.

What is recommended to help with pain from Lyme joint damage?

What movies or TV shows capture Seattle (and area's) current vibe?

Are there some movies or shows that give a decent enough idea of a slice of life in the area?

It would be great to have a more updated reference than the Frasier TV show.

Where near Everett to stay?

We are an empty-nest couple visiting Seattle to evaluate a possible work relocation for a position in Everett. Where should we be looking for a nice suburb that will be an easy drive to Everett and not too inconvenient to drive into the city?

I have heard both Lynwood and Bothell mentioned- but I know nothing of either and have no opinions yet

I just want a nice, safe neighborhood where hopefully we can get into a low-maintenance condo

Hopefully with convenient amenities

Which spots should we check out?

Diamox and nail polish or acrylic nails

For those on Diamox who ate taking it at a substantial dose (1000mg/day or more) for at least a year, have you had any issues with lifting off your nails? Such as polish chipping or peeling off super fast or acrylics not adhering well?

Diamox shifts our bodies into a slightly more acidic state. OPI's Bond-Aid is a dehydrator and a pH-balancer and it's the only thing that helps acrylic nails stick to my own nails.

I'm just wondering if this is a "me" problem or a Diamox problem.

Will polish or acrylics stick only with Bond-aid for you too, Diamox-taker?

Anyone know a Taupe colored brow product that's FA safe?

My brows are sparse and need some filling and Taupe is the shade I need.

Non-fa-safe products trigger bad flaking in mt brows (ew!).

Know of any products available in Taupe shade that are safe?

Every time I find a product that's safe, they don't make Taupe, just blonde (too light) or light brown (too orange). Please help if you know one.

Not youtube: any suggestions for good ambient videos on streaming services?

Can anyone recommend a high-quality, professionally produced, ambient video on Netflix, Prime Video, HBO, etc?

Something on a regular, commercial streaming platform. NO YOUTUBE.NO AMATEURS.

I liked "A World of Calm" on HBO.

I don't want any wild animals, especially bugs, and no ai slop.

I don't care about the sound, I'll play my own music selection over it.

Pork and Beans: same or different in different countries

I like beans and toast.

I grew up in Canada, eating canned pork and beans. The sauce is tomato-ey.

I can buy canned pork n beans in the states, where I live now. They are the same thing to me.

They are different from BBQ beans or "baked" beans which are super sweet with molasses. They are not "Beanie Weenies" 😆 which is an actual brand name for canned beans with weiners (hot dogs).

My spouse says that the canned pork n beans in the UK, such as those that come with a fry-up, are totally different. Because the ones in Australia, where spouse lived for about a decade, are different, in their memory at least.

Neither of us has ever lived in the UK.

Are canned pork n beans in the UK the same as or different than the ones in Canada, the US, and Australia?

Update: Still no word from down under. Will the Aussie contingent please chime in?

Hard booch still sweet after 3 weeks

I made 1 quart following the recipe here in the resources. I added enough sugar to yield 10% alcohol (200 grams, the equivalent of one cup).

I use "sugar in the raw" brand, the same that I use for regular booch brewing.

I'm using red star DADY (Distillers Active Dry Yeast) which cam handle up to 22% alcohol.

It has been kept inside a proofing chamber at 78 degrees F. A scoby has formed on top but much more slowly than in regular booch.

There was a nice ring of bubbles initially as fermentation seemed to start strong.

Now it's still very sweet three weeks later. Any advice? Is it as fermented as it's going to get? Should I just filter and bottle it and see how it goes? Hope that the residual sugar gets used up to make carbonation?

I don't like applying liquid foundation and prefer powder. However most loose powder foundation (typically mineral makeup, especially Bare Minerals) settles into fine lines and emphasizes the look of my already-huge pores. Many of them also look really shiny and I want matte.

I have had good esthetic results from pressed powder but it's been really hard to find one that's FA-safe. Has anyone found a FA-safe pressed powder foundation?

My kid just got a job as a food runner / expo at a restaurant.

I know what most kitchen positions are and thought that a food runner was kind of like a busser but for the plates going out instead of in.

But I don't know what an expo is responsible for. I thought that food runner was FOH but Expo is BOH I think, so I guess kiddo is BOH?

I know what a dishie, line cook, km, sous, cdc, etc. are. Not that they have the last two at the beach bar where kid works, lol. WTH is expo?
