I forgot my luggage combo, any ideas?
I just flew into San Francisco for an important job interview and I can’t remember the combination. I need your help.
53M, enhanced, transitioning from bodybuilding to HYROX. Looking for advice from those who’ve been there.
I’m a 53-year-old male who’s been consistently doing hypertrophy-style weightlifting for the last five years. I’m enhanced, my nutrition is dialed in, hydration is solid, recovery is good, and I genuinely love training.
Recently, I had to admit something to myself: my cardio and mobility absolutely suck.
I’m a huge David Goggins fan, so instead of complaining about it, I decided to do something that scares me. I joined a HYROX gym and plan on signing up for the Anaheim HYROX in December as soon as registration opens.
My current plan looks like this:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday: Progressive overload upper-body lifting
Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday: HYROX classes
I’m only lifting upper body because the HYROX classes absolutely destroy my legs with squats, lunges, wall balls, sled work, burpees…you name it. My legs are smoked after every session.
I’d love some advice from people who’ve successfully balanced bodybuilding and HYROX.
A few questions:
Since I’m still trying to build muscle, are there any upper-body muscle groups or movements I should prioritize that carry over well to HYROX?
What would you change about my lifting split?
Running is definitely my weakest area. I’ve done some HIIT on the treadmill, but I know that’s not enough. If you were starting from scratch, what would a weekly running plan look like? How many days? Easy runs? Intervals? Tempo? Long runs?
Are there any apps, YouTube channels, or coaching programs you’d recommend? I’m the kind of guy who loves having a structured plan to follow instead of piecing everything together myself.
I’m not trying to win my age group or become the fastest guy out there. I still enjoy bodybuilding and want to keep adding muscle, but I also want to become a well-rounded athlete with good conditioning, mobility, and endurance.
If you’ve been down this road, I’d really appreciate any advice or constructive criticism.
And yeah…I know Reddit can be a rough crowd sometimes. 😂 I’m just trying to become a better version of myself, so thanks in advance to anyone willing to share their experience.
See you all at the top of the mountain.
How many hours are you getting to the airport early?
Gen Xers… how early do you get to the airport?
At 53, my sweet spot is about 4 hours before my flight.
I’ve got my routine down:
Check my bag.
Get through security.
Get selected for the “random” bag check… again. At this point I’m convinced TSA has my picture hanging in the break room. Then comes the extra pat-down and the obligatory inspection of the family jewels. 😂
Head straight to my gate and recon the situation. Is my flight on the board? Any gate changes? What’s the seating situation look like?
Wander over to the newsstand for some snacks and maybe a magazine. You can’t count on finding a SkyMall magazine anymore, and honestly, that’s a tragedy.
Stop at Starbucks for a coffee and a breakfast sandwich.
Then I head back and set up camp—not at my gate, but usually at the next gate over where it’s quieter. I can still hear the announcements, but I’m not packed in shoulder-to-shoulder with everyone else.
Since I’m usually boarding in Zone 1000 anyway, there’s no point in standing in line 20 minutes early.
So, fellas… what are your airport hacks? What’s your routine for making travel as smooth and stress-free as possible? I know some of you road warriors have some tricks I haven’t learned yet.
Everyone is wearing a Halloween costume at the Texas show right?
Last year at the San Diego show, being from Southern California, I was blown away by how many people flew in from out of state to see the band. It got me thinking, and I told my wife that the next time they toured, we were going to travel to another city to see them.
Well, the opportunity came up to see Brand New in Texas, and we’re getting two birds stoned at once because my daughter lives there too, so we get to spend some time with her while we’re in town. On top of that, it’s Halloween, and I know a ton of people going to that show are going to be dressed up in one way or another.
I know masks are probably a no-go, but I see absolutely no problem with rocking my Lieutenant Dangle costume at the Brand New show on the 30th. Who else is going to Texas, and more importantly, who’s dressing up?
Yeah you were right about me.
Brand New is the same day as Deftones and AFI. What to do?
My buddies are flying in from Utah to SoCal for the Deftones and AFI show. What’s funny is I already have tickets to see AFI at the Observatory, but when I bought them, I completely forgot I already had tickets to see Peter Hook and the Light at the Hollywood Palladium that same night.
So now I’m thinking I’ll try to get BN tickets in Texas on October 30 instead. That way I can make a trip out of it and wear a Halloween costume too. 😆
Happy Mothers Day
