Communication for personal and emergency use

Hello all. Beginning my prepping journey and I thought I settled on what I need, but now I am second guessing myself. I am looking for two ways that the family can use casually on our 40 acre farm. The kids would be using these messing around in the woods and we would just monitor and chime in when it’s supper time. In terms of prepping, I need to be able to contact my sibling about 12 miles away to establish if there’s an emergency and they need to get here. I also want access to emergency channels and NOAA. I was thinking I could accomplish all of this with GMRS, but now I’m wondering if the emergency communication device should be completely separate? Either way the kids will be learning how to operate, I was looking at the Baofeng GM 15, does anybody have experience with that particular radio for what I’m looking to do? Or does anybody have a better recommendation? Thanks for any help!

Lightweight dinnerware option

Hello! Been in the process of getting all the plastic out of my house as I go and next up is lightweight dinnerware! We use regular stoneware for our big dinners but I keep a wheat straw set the kids or for grab and go stuff. What’s a good hard to break alternative ? We don’t have a microwave & it would be nice if it was dishwasher safe but not a dealbreaker if not. Thanks for any suggestions !

Finding motivation later in your sobriety

Hey guys, not sure if this is the right place to post as maybe it has nothing to do with my sobriety but I’m certainly tired of who I am and I’m looking for help.
I’m 5 years sober this year and idk I just don’t do anything. Not for a lack of wanting? Like I want to be out walking my dogs and playing with my kids, going to their events, be the “sports mom” but idk I just can’t it’s like I always have an excuse. I loved myself and loved doing things when I was drinking. I’d go out alone everyday taking myself on dates played with my kids took my dog on hikes. Then the first year of sobriety I was like in pretty rough shape, the next was like this extreme high where I was live laugh and loving it man. I radiated energy and loved myself so much. Now it’s just like… I stare out the window every day wishing I was the woman walking by with her baby in the stroller. I’m changing my environment soon as we just bought our dream house and I have all these big dreams and plans about that being where I can find myself again because I also just really hate where I live. I’m hoping this isn’t just who I actually am. I also just had a baby well 15 mos ago. So idk if I’m using that as an excuse to stay inside. I just want to go outside man I LOVE basking in the sun. I want to be a better mom and play with my kids. I certainly never had a problem playing with them after a glass of wine at night 😭

Wall studs sitting directly on floor?

Renovating our 1855 farmhouse and the first room to be ripped out is the bathroom. The wall studs sitting directly on the floor is throwing me off. Was this normal? I can’t find anything on it. This is the second floor and those are the stairs going up to the attic.

Confused on alternating contracts

So if I have 150 pts at SSR and 50 pts at BWV, could I bank/borrow every other year on each contract so one year we have a smaller 150pt vacation at BWV and the next we can splurge on say a treehouse at SSR? I’m not sure I’m thinking about it right. In my head the wait ends with expiring points. Thanks!

Resort choosing !

Planning our 7 day early November trip with 3 kids (12,8,1.5yo) this will be our 4th time and we’ve never stayed at any of these resorts. I’m stuck between two connecting rooms at either All star Sports & Pop or a suite at AOA. It’s a little over a grand more to stay at Pop or AOA which I don’t mind paying so long as the convenience is worth it. We usually stay at the contemporary so the transportation aspect there was a breeze. Last vaca I hopped on the monorail and took the baby back for a nap whenever we needed. We won’t have a vehicle of our own and I’m very aware & completely fine with the frequent breaks one of us will have to take with our toddler, I personally look forward to downtime at the resort. So parents or caregivers with age gapped kids, is it worth the big kids having their own room? Being on a skyliner resort? Are AOA suites big enough for everyone to space out a bit? Thanks for any help!

Having an issue with authenticator & my business account

At 7am today I went to go log into my work email from a new phone, I knew it would prompt me to login because it's a new device. After my email & password it told me to enter the code from authenticator. I didn't know what authenticator was and have never used it. I tried to log in on my desktop and same thing. I find authenticator, download it, and to my surprise, it says I need to use authenticator to authenticate my current log in. But I can't log in to get the code. Codes on the app that I can't get in because (circles) Tried the help chat (AI) which directed me to call. I call and they (AI) tell me to go online to submit a ticket. Can't submit a ticket because I can't get in my account. I made a trial account to submit a ticket as I saw as previous advice. Two actual people called, first one said he couldn't help. Second one said I might be able to help and to try again in 12 hours. I missed all three meetings today because of this. I can't believe I pay for this service. Does anybody have any actual advice for me on who to call or how I could possibly fix this? I'll take all advice up to and including how to cancel my subscription without having to log in, because ya know, can't 😞

Using DIGITS on iPad

Hello all long time T-Mobile customer looking at swapping my work iPhone to a work iPad. I need to be able to call and text on it and that's how I discovered the DIGITS app. So, it's my understanding that I just log into the app on my iPad and I should be able to get my work calls and stuff? Should my work line still be on a functional phone somewhere for this to work? I have a ton of spare phones lying around if need be. Hope this makes sense! Thanks for any help!

Can you do this on a Nintendo switch?

Forgive my ignorance as I know nothing about this.

I bought my spouse one of these devices and he loves it; I played with it for a bit and also love it. After some research I purchased myself the R36H Pro Max last night. The kids also love it. They already have Nintendo Switches, is there something I can do to the switch to make it similar to this R36S? Or should I just buy the R36S? Thanks!

Crashed out one day and tossed my iPhone and got the cheapest flip phone T-Mobile had, the TCL Flip4. I actually loved this phone, very easy to use. Really simple apps. The Kaios store was alright, I loved the games. Keeping it because my kids OBSESSED and is now ditching his iPhone for it!! Predictive T9 is a breeze. The permanent apps on the home screen are very annoying.

Second came the HIT K1. I really did not love this phone. The keyboard is hard to use (for me) as it's so wide. Perhaps somebody with bigger hands or more patience would better like.

Keyphone came last, absolutely blew my mind. This is 100% my new phone. So simple to use. I got the 20mp camera and full keyboard. Takes excellent photos. I was hesitant for weeks to order because of the reviews saying the keyboard makes it hard to text, I don't find this to be true. Once you get the hang of switching to buttons again it's very easy. The touchscreen is so nice. This phone is really beautifully done.

So happy to officially be in the dumbphone club! Feel free to AMA about any of the above!
