Son requested Lego for his birthday theme? He gets Lego!

Cake was a PAIN. Made Mississippi mud batter, cut er up and added buttercream for glue. Carved it out, filled it with the typical marshmallow/fudge topping, then layered cake and buttercream over that. Then blue ganache, I used blue melting wafers/almond bark in a 3:1, and chocolate dipped Oreos. It took forever to make a "paint" that was edible and wouldn't entirely smear on the melting wafers I used but I got there! Also made rice Krispy treats, and dipped those in chocolate, using mini m&m for the "studs" :) I am in culinary school but also just do it for the love of baking and making my son smile.

I feel so silly, but I just inherited a 20+ Year old cornbread pan...I don't think this is all "seasoning"

Hello! I have a couple newer cast irons I don't use much, so I'm not super unfamiliar. But I don't use them daily and they arent....chunky like this. My parents moved and gave me the "family cornbread pan" I remember it from my childhood. I remember how to make cornbread, kind of. I don't remember ever washing it. And I understand cast iron seasoning is supposed to be a nice even layer designed to help things not stick. I don't think? this is proper seasoning, it looks like disgusting rancid oil mixed with rust. The pan stinks, and has orange spots if it's not visible on the pictures. The inside is not quite as....textured as the outside, but still not something I like. If I'm looking to restore this, am I looking at barkeepers friend + chainmail + elbow grease or am I looking at sourcing lye and following that? Any help appreciated thank you so much. I would be very happy to make my kids cornbread in this, I'm just a bit concerned about tasting cornbread from 20 years ago πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

A bee themed birthday cake 🎁

Chocolate and almond butter cake, made lots of little chocolate decorations with moderate levels of success! I included my doodle draft, of how I wanted the cake to look. Then the final cake top and side. The insides of the cake, guest starring the haunted bee my son got me 🐝 first attempt at decorations, then that attempt zoomed in. Second attempt is in the clear dish, I had finessed the colors I wanted and taken a lot more time (and cussing)

The final picture is how it was served, I love potato chips with my birthday cake and ice cream, it's like French fries in a frosty 🍨🍦

What other colors can create similar looks? Been using arctic fox

I like arctic fox a lot, and their policies regarding animal testing. Any suggestions for other colors to keep doing this? I am interested in trying ion or iroiro as I've heard good things.

Used arctic fox hair dye. I think it took 18 hours over 4 days?

Day 1:set up, bleach half of roots. Rinse, bleach other half roots. Make purple shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask using purple dye and my regular shampoo and stuff. I do this like every time . Wash and conditioner and hair mask with the purple stuff.

Day 2: realize I had some small missed spots, little more bleach application. Bleached eyebrows too. Wash with the purple stuff and dry. Start setting up color station, it takes a while to protect everything and get it ready. Made 5 colors - red, red orange, orange, orange yellow, yellow. 80/20 dye to conditioner. Start dying the lower "half" once I was done for the day I cleaned up entirely then put my hair in bags and a sleep cap. Went to bed πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ also dyed my eyebrows

Day 3: took my kids to school looking like I was a megamind substitute final pic in the slideshow lmao. After they were delivered I started setting up and making more colors. I used the same 5 blends from the day before (always write down formulas creating custom colors) plus purple. I thought I had done half n half, but the first half took like 4.5 hours and the second took almost 6.

So I don't think I split that evenly but here we are! As the first half dried out quickly after removing its bags, I did use the opportunity to just layer more yellow over most of it. Did it take? Who knows. Used purple and orange up in my bangs to try and create a nice layered look. Rinsed for the night and put in cap.

Day 4: wash and condition, then hair mask. Put part of hair in rollers, apply curl cream and mousse and scrunched the rest for the day. Haven't bought any new chemicals yet
