I recently purchased a sword that has this heraldry etched in it. I know it shows the marshaled arms of Norway, Denmark, and Sweden so it likely dates from somewhere between 1814 and 1905, but I didn’t know if there was a period in which this specific orientation was more popular. Thanks!
The previous owner had it ID’d as German ca. 1580, but I’m not so sure.
The blade is totally blunt and the ricasso is longer than I see on most period examples. There’s also no maker’s mark.
The hilt looks pretty good to me, no signs of modern welds or modern grinds. I suspect it may be a period hilt with a more modern blade?
I’d love to hear from some experts!

Howdy, folks!
I moved up here to live with my fiancé about two years ago. That recently didn’t work out, but I’ve got a job here and like the town quite a bit so I’ve decided to stay. Now I just need something to occupy my newly open schedule that isn’t rushing into another relationship right away.
Most of my go-to hobbies are solitary (sewing, jewelry making, woodworking, baking, reading, weight lifting) and I realize the best thing for me going forward is going to be socializing and community building. I’ve not got a lot of community here so I’m looking for a way to keep myself busy that involve other people.
Some things about me: I’m 30, did sports in high school but not college, I’ve got a graduate degree in a natural science, I’m originally from another Midwest state, I enjoy creative and kinesthetic activities, and I’m an eager novice.
So, what’s your group, when do they meet, and what do y’all get up to?
