Looking for games with a thought-provoking story

So, I have recently just finished up Silent Hill 2. What a game! Everything about it is nearing perfect and it has quickly become one of my favorite games of all time. My favorite part is how nuanced the story is. There's so much left up to interpretation that you could spend hours trying to piece together what exactly went down and why. There was nothing in the game that felt without purpose. A lot of it is philosophical and psychological in nature as well, and I love those topics. I took a break from gaming after beating it because I knew nothing would come close so soon, but after a month and a half I'm looking to dive back in.

For those who haven't played Silent Hill 2, here are some other games that scratched that same itch for me:

NieR Automata/Replicant

SOMA

Outer Wilds

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

Disco Elysium

Hopefully that provides enough context. Would really love to hear any recommendations to add to my backlog, thanks!

Silent Hill 2 Remake or Lies of P

Struggling to decide which to purchase. I know they're two very different games, but I've got ~$30 to spend, and both are on sale for that amount.

I think I'd enjoy the Silent Hill 2 remake because I really enjoy horror games. Just finished up SOMA for the first time, and that was great. My concern is that I have often heard the original is the preferred way to play. I don't think I could responsibly justify spending $180 for the original version, but I could always save up for it. Mostly curious whether it's worth saving up for the original or if the remake is more worth it.

As for Lies of P, I haven't played any soulslikes. I played Elden Ring for a little while, but I never followed through with it. I don't really know what the gameplay or story is typically like. I've been eyeing this game ever since it was released, though. It looks like a pretty fun time. I think the concept is unique, and the game looks beautiful. At first glance, it looks like I'd enjoy it, but I can't be sure.

I think I'd enjoy either game for the most part. I'm curious to hear what people here prefer between the two. Thanks in advance!

What is a game you think everyone should play

I formed mine around the core experience of the game. I tried to make the genre spread as diverse as possible as well. I think each of these provide an experience that is unique to gaming that even a non-gamer could enjoy.

There are some that could be changed, like I think Hollow Knight and Super Metroid are fairly interchangeable, same for E33 and Final Fantasy X. Overall though, if I were to try and get someone into games, it'd probably be something from this list.

This is a very biased list obviously, but I think nobody could go wrong with any of these and they are an experience worth trying at least

Looking for a game that’ll make me cry

I’ve played probably around 300 games in my life and only 2 have made me cry. Those games are OMORI and Sanabi. NieR Automata got real close to be fair.

I feel like I just need a good crying session, but haven’t found anything that quite strikes me like those other games have.

Here's a list of games I have played already and HAVENT made me cry:

Literally every Sony game (LoU, GoW, GoT, etc.), Spiritfarer, Red Dead 2, What Remains of Edith Finch, Expedition 33, The Walking Dead, Cyberpunk, To the Moon, Outer Wilds, Persona games, Plague Tale games, Yakuza, and Mass Effect.

Not every game I've played, but those are the usual suspects people try and recommend me.

I’m hoping someone will have a game that I haven’t played and hits me in the feels. Suggest me a game that made you emotional

I’ve also played just about every game similar to OMORI and none have hit the same height

Recommend me games based on my top 25

Assume that I've played or at least heard of games in the same franchise (i.e. Persona 3/4, FFX, DMC3 Paper Mario TTYD, etc.)

My Favorite Games by Letters! What do you like/dislike?

This is way more restrictive than you would think, I implore you to fill out your own if you want to! Also needed to add a couple free spaces to make a proper square, so I tried to fill those out with games that start with numbers (kinda cheated with KH: 358/2 days but whatever)
