Hey everyone! New to the Star Trek fandom tbh. Ive only ever seen the first of the newer movies with Chris Pine, a few episodes of TNG, and I remember seeing a rerun of TOS at my grandparents house when I was younger. Curious to see if I remember the TOS episode when I get to it. All I remember was something about a swamp and kirk just beating up swamp monsters? Might be misremembering though.

Anywho thats just my background going into watching the pilot episode for the first time.

After watching the pilot my mind was blown. Most of the effects from the show hold up to this day and im just staring at the screen like “wow how did they do that?” The model flying scenes/stars/space look incredible! Also really enjoyed the “Alien” world they were on. I feel like in a lot of shows/movies like star wars its like “oh we’re on a alien planet”, but its just a desert somewhere. I thought the backdrop paintings where amazing and really sold some of the alien worlds. Also the huge head guys make up was awesome!

The whole vibe of the show is so much fun! Its like sexy 60’s sci fi. Reminds me of like a American doctor who with a bigger budget and more sexy lol. Love the like 60’s future vibe the show has. The music in the pilot was also so good too! Did they change the music from the pilot going into the first episode with Kirk?

Also I think Pike is really cool! Definitely gives like that classic Hollywood cowboy vibe, which seems to fit his character. Loved the ending of the episode it was a little bittersweet. Like his like fake clone version gets to go off and live his fantasy life where he has to just keep pressing on.

Anywho! Excited to be watching!
