I keep a saved search on Zillow for Napa and up-valley (Silverado Trail, Hagen Rd, St. Helena, etc.), and my inbox just got flooded with pending sale notifications almost all at once.

It feels like a sudden wave of activity across the area. Is this a wave of Bay Area tech / AI liquidity (Anthropic, OpenAI, etc.) buying up second homes and wine country retreats, or is there another shift happening locally that I’m missing?

Curious to hear what locals, agents, or folks following the Napa market are seeing on the ground right now.

PSA: waxing the globe actually works. Pics after one coat of Howard Wax-It-All.

Saw the wax tip mentioned here a while back when I was searching for a fix, so credit to whoever posted it.

I did a full clean of both globes first, let them dry, then put one coat of Howard Wax-It-All (food grade) on the inside. That's it. One coat.

This was 7 days ago. Since then the two units have run 28 and 31 cycles, and they still look like the after pics. Honestly I did not expect much, but the difference is pretty wild. Litter and waste were caking onto the walls and the entry step before, and now nothing really wants to stick. Cleanup takes a fraction of the time.

Same spots in both pics, same camera. Cropped but no filters. Cats haven't cared one way or the other.

Next time I'll do two or three coats since one already did this much. If anyone has run multiple coats, curious how long it held up before you had to redo it.

Update: Howard Products' official product literature lists Wax-It-All as "Child and pet safe."

Looking for CDMX-style / pasilla broth Tortilla Soup in LA similar to Tortas Frontera (pics attached)

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to find a spot in LA that serves a very specific style of tortilla soup/Sopa Azteca. I had the version at Tortas Frontera at O’Hare airport a while back and haven't been able to replicate it since.

Unlike most places that serve a thick tomato-puree or cream/masa-based soup, this one uses a dark, clear pasilla chile chicken broth. It’s poured scalding hot over shredded chicken and melted white cheese (like Oaxaca or panela) sitting at the bottom, then topped with fresh avocado chunks, cilantro, and raw onions.

To be specific, if the soup has corn, black beans, carrots, zucchini, noodles, or heavy vegetables in it, that is not what I’m looking for. I am strictly looking for that simple, broth-forward Mexico City style.

Are there any authentic CDMX spots, casual Mexican joints, or mariscos places in LA that build their tortilla soup like this?

Appreciate any leads!

Traveling to India from US West Coast this fall — alternative airlines given Gulf tensions?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning a trip to India this October from the US West Coast. In the past, I've almost always flown Emirates or Qatar. Aside from the great service, I always loved picking up Cuban cigars and Cuban rum at Dubai/Doha duty-free on the way back since you can't get them in the US.

With everything going on in the Gulf right now, I'm second-guessing routing through the Middle East this time around.

For those of you traveling to India soon, what are you doing?

  • Are you switching to European carriers (British Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, etc.)?
  • Are you routing over the Pacific instead?

Since I'm on the West Coast, I'm leaning toward Singapore Airlines as an option. If anyone has flown SQ or other transpacific routes to India recently, I'd love to hear how the layover and total travel time felt compared to ME3 routes.

Appreciate any thoughts or recent experiences!

Any local tire shops that will balance/mount wheels I already own?

Hey everyone,

I pulled a set of wheels/tires out of storage and want to swap them onto my car. I've called three different tire shops so far, but they all refused—saying they'll only install wheels or tires purchased directly through them (or via Tire Rack).

Does anyone know of a solid local shop that's willing to balance a set I already have, mount them on the car, and throw the old set into my trunk for me?

Appreciate any recommendations!

Question for NRIs. Using USA branches of Indian banks (Bank of Baroda, ICICI, SBI).

Hi,

I am an NRI living in the US. I want to open an Indian bank account that I can easily manage from here.

About my current setup, I have an account with Union Bank of India. They are the most unprofessional bank I have ever dealt with. I need to move away from them.

I did some research and saw there is a Bank of Baroda branch in New York. I also see ICICI and SBI have branches in the US. I want to know if anyone uses these US branches for their banking needs.

I would like to hear from other NRIs who have gone through this. Please let me know the following.

  1. What are the pros and cons of having an account with an Indian bank that has branches in the US?
  2. Does anyone use the Bank of Baroda NY branch specifically?
  3. Are there any hidden fees or issues I should know about?

Please let me know your experiences.

Thanks

OCI eligibility question. USA born with Indian mom and British overseas dad.

I am a USA born citizen of Indian descent. I recently applied for an OCI card. I have not heard anything back from the consulate.

About my parents, both lived and passed away in India. My mother held an Indian passport. My father held an overseas British passport (he was born in Africa).

I am starting to wonder about my eligibility. I have two questions for people who have gone through this process.

  1. Is it possible that I am not eligible because of my father's passport status?
  2. What type of processing delays should I expect from the consulate right now?

Please let me know if you have any information.

If SPCX keeps dropping, at what price does an acquisition of TSLA become mathematically impossible?

Been watching the recent SPCX stock price drop below its IPO level, and it got me thinking about the merger rumors.

Chamath was on CNBC yesterday saying that SPCX would have to offer a 50% premium for TSLA shareholders to even agree to a vote to sell themselves.

Right now, Tesla's market cap is hovering around $1.47 trillion. A 50% premium means SpaceX would need to facilitate a buyout valued at over $2.2 trillion. Meanwhile, with the recent slide, SpaceX's market cap has dropped down into the $1.7 trillion range.

This makes me wonder: what does the market cap and stock price for SPCX actually need to be for them to acquire Tesla in an all-stock deal? If SPCX keeps bleeding, at what price point does the math completely fall apart because the dilution to SpaceX shareholders would just be too massive?

Any thoughts or modeling on this? Would love to hear how you guys are running the numbers

Any insights on this lot at 2277 Monticello Rd? Amazing view, but looks like a challenging build.

Hey folks. This popped up on my Zillow feed a few days ago, and the views look absolutely incredible. It is a piece of land that seems to have a great panoramic view of the valley, but I'm having a hard time sizing it up just from the listing photos.

Mainly, it’s really hard to tell from the pictures how steep the slope actually is. I can't quite figure out how much of the land is flat enough to work with versus what part is just a massive drop-off. On top of that, it looks like there is solid rock exposed on part of the plot. I’m guessing that would make building anything up there a massive headache, including trying to dig out or put in a septic tank.

The interesting part is that it looks like a 50% price cut from its last sale price, so it's sitting at $549k now when it sold for over a million back in 2017. The listing mentions it used to have a mid-century house on it with a pool, and it still has a city water hookup, which are definitely pros. But if any of you are local to the area or know the hillside out that way, I would appreciate any insight you have on the pros and cons. Is the rock and steepness a known dealbreaker for this pocket of Monticello Rd, or is there something else I'm missing?

Thanks in advance!

Litter Robot Dashboard - Live link + Github link

I have two Litter-Robot 4s and three cats, and one day it hit me that these things are quietly logging a goldmine of data — every visit, every weight reading, every clean cycle — and I was doing absolutely nothing with it. So I built a dashboard.

It pulls from the Whisker API (via the pylitterbot library) and shows both robots at a glance: whether they're online, current litter level, how full the waste drawer is, cycle counts, and — the part I actually care about — each cat's weight over time and how often they're using the box. Watching weight and visit frequency turned out to be a surprisingly good early-warning signal for a cat that might be off.

A script runs every hour, rebuilds the page, and pushes it to S3 behind CloudFront, so it's always current without me touching anything. It's also mobile-friendly now, so I can glance at it on my phone.

Live dashboard (updates hourly): https://litterrobot.sunit.dev/litter_robot_dashboard.html

Code + a full README explaining how it works: https://github.com/sunitc-berk/Litter-Robot-Dashboard

Happy to answer questions if anyone wants to do the same with their setup. Curious if others are tracking their cats' habits this way too — and whether anyone's caught a health issue early from the weight trends.

The dashboard said my cat used both boxes back-to-back. The security cam revealed the truth...

I was looking at my Litter Robot dashboard this morning and noticed some weird data. It showed that my cat, Mittens, had triggered both of our litter boxes within a minute of each other. At first, I thought the sensors were glitching out.

I decided to check the security camera I have pointed at the cat area to see what actually happened. Sure enough, the data was spot on:

  • 2:29 AM: Mittens enters the first box, scratches around the inside for a bit, decides the vibes are off, and hops out.
  • 2:30 AM: She immediately waltzes into the second box, gets comfortable, and actually does her business.

Honestly, it was just really satisfying to visually verify that the app data is completely accurate. Turns out the robots are working perfectly, my cat is just a diva!

Does anyone else have a cat that has to "test drive" multiple boxes before committing?

Final Version - Litter Robot Dashboard.

I wanted to share the final version of a custom Litter-Robot dashboard I’ve been working on.

I made extensive use of Claude Design to refine the UX and used Claude to write the code that parses the logs and builds out the HTML for the dashboard. It’s been a great way to get clean, actionable data visualization out of the machine.

I'm finishing up the documentation and will be dropping the code on GitHub next week. Let me know what you think or if there are any specific features you'd want to see!

I built a custom dashboard for my Litter-Robots using the API and Claude

Hey fellow Litter-Robot owners,

I’ve been a happy owner of two Litter-Robots for many years now (and so have my 3 cats!). Since I work in tech, I recently started messing around with the Litter-Robot Python library to see what kind of data I could pull.

This dashboard is my first attempt at putting that data to use. I actually used Claude Code to help me spin up the Python backend and the HTML for the front end, and it turned out pretty neat. It’s been great for tracking usage and keeping an eye on status logs at a glance.

Once I get the code a bit more polished and cleaned up, I’m planning to throw everything into a GitHub repo so anyone else can use it.

Check out the screenshot below—I'd love to hear your thoughts or any feedback on what else would be cool to track!

Could the Robotaxi delay just be a "new form factor" training issue? (Like the Cybertruck)

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around the true reasons behind the delay in getting the Robotaxi deployed, and I wanted to see if this theory makes sense to anyone else based on what we saw with the Cybertruck.

I own a Cybertruck, and when it first launched, it didn’t have FSD at all. If I remember right, it took something like 8 to 10 months after delivery day for FSD to finally roll out to the truck.

My assumption at the time was that Tesla’s AI team needed real-world fleet data to train the FSD model specifically for the Cybertruck's unique physical dimensions, camera placements, and steering physics.

Since the Robotaxi (Cybercab) is a completely new form factor, it stands to reason that they’re running into the exact same hurdle. Even if the software is great on a Model 3 or Y, they probably need to rack up millions of validation miles on actual Robotaxi prototypes before the model is safe and accurate enough to handle that specific body type unsupervised.

Does this logic hold up, or do you think the delays are driven more by regulatory hurdles, hardware production scaling, or something else entirely?

Would love to hear your thoughts.
