Leaving Tampa Bay

23M currently living in the Tampa Bay area and starting to look at relocating/applying for jobs outside of Florida. I work in hospitality/admin operations right now but I’m open to different cities and industries as I figure out my next move. Trying to find a place that fits my lifestyle better long term.
What I’m looking for:

- Strong social scene / easier to meet people in their 20s. I really enjoy photography, sports, and exploring new things.
- Moderate to minimal driving if possible, or decent public transportation/walkability.
- Access to nature and/or the ocean. Huge fan of mountains, hiking, and surfing/coastal life.
- Somewhere I can realistically survive on around a 60k (minimum) income as a single person.

Only major debt is light car debt, no kids or anything tying me down. I’m open to hearing realistic suggestions, including cities that might not be obvious. Would especially love input from people who left Florida in their 20s and felt like it improved their quality of life.

Commuting from downtown area to Downtown Sarasota

Do people do this commute? I live near the Skyway now but want to move closer to downtown. Trying to gage how realistic this is 5 days a week.

Commuting between Carlsbad and Laguna Niguel

Possibly moving to Carlsbad soon to work at a beachside luxury hotel in Laguna Nigel, wondering if anybody else drives or takes the train. I grew up in SD so I know you would have to switch trains in Oceanside, and the closest station is San Clemente.

Seems to make more sense to drive?

Hey everyone, I’m 23m and honestly feeling pretty stuck lately. I currently live in the Sarasota area in Florida and while it’s beautiful, it just feels kind of dead socially for someone my age. A lot of people are older, settled down, or already in their circles, and it’s been hard meeting new people or feeling like there’s much energy around me.

I graduated college last year and work full time now, but I’ve been thinking more and more about just starting over somewhere completely different while I’m still young. I really want to live somewhere with more life to it socially, more ambition, more people in their 20s, and more opportunities in general. Somewhere I can build a new version of my life and meet people naturally instead of feeling isolated all the time.

Places I keep thinking about are San Diego, Chicago, New York, Seattle, Denver, maybe even somewhere else I haven’t considered yet. I’ve mostly lived in Florida/Tampa Bay areas, so moving somewhere with an actual city feel and stronger culture sounds exciting to me, even if it’s intimidating.

Career-wise, I currently work in hospitality/event operations and client-facing work, but I’m also interested in eventually moving toward sales, account management, or travel-related work. I’m not tied down right now outside of finances and a car payment, which honestly makes me feel like now is probably the time to take risks if I’m going to.

For people who moved away in their early 20s and started fresh, what cities realistically make the most sense? How much money would you want saved before doing it?

Currently in South Florida, living right by a Fountain that always blows water that mineralizes onto my truck. I’ve tried parking away from it, but no luck. Whenever I try to rinse off water spots from the fountain, they’re really stuck.

I believe water spots have etched into my paint as I have tried washing it off with a pressure washer, and also attempted to remove stains using diluted water and white vinegar combined and no luck. I am afraid to try and rub it off as I don’t want to scratch my paint and make this damage any worse than it is.

At this point, what else can I do to try and decontaminate it/buff it out? Or is it better to just get a professional detailer to do paint correction/ceramic coating on the truck

I (23M) currently live near Sarasota Florida, working an administrative position at a 5 star luxury hotel. I have 4 years of experience from working through college, but feel ready to move into sales whether that be hospitality or another industry. The constant three most consistent problems I run into down here are lack of ability to meet people similar to my age, not being able to network as well as other cities, and limited community. As a very social individual, this has been eating at me since moving down here and graduating college about 5 years ago - I’m ready to change course.

I come from San Diego originally, and would love to move back as family is still there, many of my connections are from the area, and the work hard play hard mentality genuinely still exists there. Of course though, I am essentially broke making about 50K+ a year - making it seem somewhat not possible to move back right now.

I’m very open to trying a new city, but want something that’s going to help guide me into the direction I want to take. Some additional context is that I want a city near or with nature, such as beaches to go surfing at, mountains or parks to explore, and a young social scene. I’ve looked at Denver, NYC metro area, and Ft Lauderdale as options, and am pretty much open to anything right now. I lived in Tampa, FL for 4 years prior to moving down here, so something new would be nice.

It would be nice to get some input on what might be best fitting for me right now. I plan on making a move after August with either an internal transfer promotion (my company is worldwide/all 50 states), or as soon as possible with the right opportunity. Thank you for your support.

If I park from now (6:45am) to 12am in the Van Weasel parking lot for work, what are the odds that I get towed? I see the sign that says no overnight parking, but I’m obviously doing that, just not if they strictly enforce the lot after a certain time.

Hey all,

If you’re thinking about moving to Sarasota, or anywhere around Tampa Bay, I just started a subreddit: r/movingtotampasarasota

Mostly just wanted a place where people can ask real questions and get straight answers about things like rent, areas to live, jobs, and what day-to-day life is actually like here.

If you’ve already lived in the area, your input would help a lot. And if you’re planning a move, feel free to ask whatever.

It’s brand new, so still growing, but figured I’d put it out there 👍

I’m the only guy in my department and lately I’ve been feeling pretty left out socially. Everyone’s super friendly, but I don’t really get included beyond surface-level work things. The girls (managers and coordinators) hangout outside of work and I don’t get the memo ever.

I have a GF, and I also understand socially why they may not invite the only guy, but it does feel kind of bad. It definitely makes it a little harder to work, but I remain professional and know that I’m here to work and not make friends technically. I also have to be really careful with what I say because I don’t want to offend anybody since I genuinely can’t determine how much they really like me or not. There is no beef and I’ve never had a disagreement with any of them, just feels odd and lonely.

I’m 23, so maybe this just has to do with where I am living as well, cause it can also be hard outside of work in my area to meet people despite being a social person. At least work wise, does it seem like they don’t want to be around me outside of work because I’m a guy, or because I’m unlikable?

Currently living in an apartment community where water spots are a constant issue on my truck due to a water fountain/sprinklers. My truck is relatively new (25’ Tacoma) and I don’t want minerals to permanently damage the paint.

I’m looking for someone who is reliable, works on weekends and relatively priced.

Does anybody have any local SRQ area recommendations?
