Whimsical fairy home!

Here is a whimsical style fairy home that I carved out of a piece of cotton wood bark. I need some help coming up with a name and story for the creature that lives In it! Any ideas?

Whittled succulent plants

I carved a bunch of these little succulents cactus from David young’s book “Whittling On the Go”

Today’s episode of The Modern Woodcarver Podcast I got the opportunity to sit down and have a conversation with David about his journey in wood carving, how he developed his style and creating his book. I had a lot of fun speaking with him about his journey!

I will leave the link below for anyone who is interested in checking it out!

Frankensteins monster!

On my journey of attempting to realism! I just had to do Frankensteins monster! I followed the instructional videos of Alec lacasse and his school The Fundamentals of woodcarving.

I can already see things I want to improve on the next time I carve a frank but it’s a good start!

Finished relief carving

I decided to paint my relief carving. Painting is not my strong suit and it was even more of a reason to paint it, to get out of my comfort zone to try and improve. I don’t love how it turned out but I guess it’s all part of the learning process.

On today’s episode of The Modern Woodcarver Podcast I had a conversation with Josh Arroyo an incredible talented charicature style carver with a very unique and in depth perspective on the craft. This gnome I carved with the tilted head was directly inspired by Josh’s work he is always trying to create dynamic poses in his work and here is my small attempt at that!

I will leave the links in the comments if you are interested in checking out the episode. No pressure!

On today’s episode of The Modern Woodcarver Podcast I had a conversation with Dan Gallagher who is known for carving golf balls. He generously sent me a few cut open golf balls to try out for myself! They are a fun and interesting medium to carve which carved very similar to basswood!

If you are interested in checkout out the full episode with Dan I will provide the link in the comments!
