Any chance in identifying the species of my log bench?

Previous home owner left a half-rotted log bench behind. I spent some time removing the rot, sanding it, and finishing it. It looks beautiful but I’d love to know what it’s made of. To my novice eye it looks like cedar, but I’m not sure. Anybody have leads?

Made a porch couch out of pine 2x4’s and could use advice on staining

Hey all! I made this porch couch out of 2x4’s and I’m thrilled with how it came out. My wife wants it to be darker to match existing furniture.

Do you have any recommendations on colors, stains, and steps needed to do this properly? Also recommendations on an outdoor coating for after the stain?

Really any advice is appreciated as I’ve never stained wood before and this is my second project so far. Thank y out!

Question about screened in porch build process

Hey all. I have contractors building a screened in porch for us. There have been a few small mistakes made so far so I’m a bit nervous about how the project is going.

My question is about the aluminum coil that wraps around the lumber. The pieces of wood on the bottom aren’t wrapped around the whole piece of wood. They seem to be simply laying over the top of the wood.

Isn’t this going to let moisture in? Is this normal? I can’t find any pictures online of a similar style and this seems really odd.

Could use some help with poly

I haven’t used polyurethane before, but I may have messed up. I’m refinishing this abandoned wood bench and did a ton of sanding. I applied multiple coats of oil based poly and waited about 24 hours between coats. It was always slightly tacky but I chalked that up to needing to fully cure. I needed another can and noticed it’s significantly thinner in consistency. I did a coat on the top half and overnight, it’s perfectly smooth and not tacky at all.

Presumably my first can was bad. Could I get away with applying a coat or two of the good can to cover the bad poly?

Is it possible to pause/unpause emulation in Dolphin with the back button?

I’ve been looking for a setting to do this somewhere and haven’t found anything in dolphin, is this possible? The goal is that when I click the back/menu button to pull up the save state menu, it also pauses emulation so my character doesn’t get hit while I’m in the menu.

The PS2 emulators seem to do this by default and I can’t figure it out in Dolphin. Is this possible?

Shark tooth found in Myrtle Beach, SC

First fossil I’ve ever found. Any way to date this or tell what kind of shark it’s from?

My end table is ugly but I’m still proud!

Total newbie here. I used a jigsaw and handsaw to cut the pieces, then stained with poly. I used pine dimensional lumber from Lowe’s.

It’s wobbly, nothing is square, but I’m still proud of it. The jigsaw didn’t cut perfectly even, so nothing really lines up properly lol. This is the best possible picture I could get lol.

Does these giant green arborvitae need to be removed?

Hey all, inexperienced home owner here who can really use some help. We’ve had these giant trees here since the house was purchased 7 years ago and we’ve loved them. However, they’ve grown - a lot.

We saved up to build a screened in porch next to where they are. Approximately two or three feet away from them. Will these trees need to be removed? I’m concerned they’re going to get even larger and encroach on the porch foundation we plan on putting in, and they’re also getting really close to the actual house as well.

I estimate them to maybe be 25-30 feet tall. The width is “big” and I apologize for not being able to estimate better.

I love the shade, the birds, and the bunnies that these trees bring. I’ve done some googling but I’m not sure about the impact these trees may have on the house.

I don’t KNOW for sure these are giant green arborvitae, but I’m in North Carolina so that seems likely.

Thank you so much!

Edit: Sorry for the typo, autocorrect did my dirty with “does”.

Large drone similar to MQ-9 reaper over High Point?

Around 12pm today I saw what appeared to me a large military drone flying relatively low around Skeet Club Road. Did anybody else see something similar?

It caught my eye as I was leaving my neighborhood. I’ve been trying to find info online about similar drones that may be used for other purposes, besides military, but I haven’t found much.

It definitely looked too odd to be a normal plane. It seems “small” and relatively low flying, with a larger front.

Any info is appreciated!

Got cryotherapy for my wart today. First time. It hurts super bad, and I literally can’t put any weight on my foot at all. How likely is the blood blister to pop if I try walking? How long until the pain is bearable for walking?
