How impactful is terrain and the actual battlefield in this game? (Noob needing convincing to make the leap from 40k)
Sorry if its a dumb question (noob), but how much is terrain and the battlefield actually used in Warmachine? All the pictures I see of battles make it look kinda like AoS where battles are basically fought on an open field with almost no terrain where everything is just deployed on a line and gets shoved into the center. Its very lame to me and it's really the main thing keeping me from making Warmachine my main game. I hear it is better than 40k in almost every way from my 40k tournament friends who have made the jump. I really want to fall in love with this game but how in depth can the tables get terrain wise? My goal is to get a group going at my local FLGS and we are all really big on making cool tables to play on with eye catching terrain and I want to know can you play competivley while also playing on a cool thematic table with cool terrain?
Also is the game just a mosh pit battle in the center? Can I actually utilize small units to flank and attack from different angles? I don't want to invest in another AoS style game that's "so much better than 40k" only to realize after dropping $600 to start it that "better than 40k" is only true if you like a Pokémon battle in the center of an open field where the "playlines" are just surviving until you get the double turn. I really enjoy the tactics of out maneuvering my opponent and using the battlefield to my advantage. If Warmachine can scratch that itch, I REALLY want to make it my whole personality lol
Any help or input would be much appreciated, and feel free to add in any other selling points you have for this game, especially if you are a 40k convert. I would love to hear your thoughts. I plan to play Orgoth Sea Raiders.
