Lintu tomaattipuskassa

Where to find good lecture series on Sumerians, Akkadians, Assyrians etc?

I've been binging all things ancient Mesopotamian and bronze age for a while now, Fall of Civilizations podcast for example, but I'd love to listen to proper academic lectures on the subject. Is there anything publicly available? Preferably something that goes deep into the details, as so far what I've listened to have been more akin to popularized tellings of the broad picture.

Drones, how do they work?

I made a drone, and had setup some cabinets to be in demand of some minerals and stuff, and had a T2 Ore Extractor that was setup to supply. I went to the drone console, pressed some button and the drone disappeared. What happened, does it do its thing? How do these things work?

Looking for specific rules about hirelings and henchmen

I found (or was linked to when I previously asked about this somewhere) what I thought was suitable rules for my BECMI campaign regarding hiring hirelings and henchmen, but I can't find them anymore. I remember they were from some specific rules (as in, they were in a rulebook), I thought it was from Dark Dungeons, but couldn't locate them from there. IIRC, the cost for fe. 1st level fighter was something around 50gp / mission or something along those lines. In any case, it had a table of the prices for different kinds of hired help and for the most part they were on per mission base.

Do you have a clue where to find these rules? My players are getting their combat-ready hirelings killed at a pretty fast rate (don't worry, the low morale and added cost of hiring will hit them soon) :D

Some perspective practice

I used to draw a lot when I was a kid, and I've been wanting to start again. So I did. Been drawing circles and lines a bit, tried some sketching, and today I did some perspective practice with two vanishing points. I used technical pencil and for ink Pentel brush pen.

How to handle hiring mercenaries?

Light footman is 2 gp/ month, which seems dirt cheap for a 1st level fighter ready to partake in fighting. In Dark Dungeons 0 level man-at-arms is 50 gp per excursion, which seems a bit expensive. Is there any good rules regarding how to hire and at what cost?

What AD&D 1st edition retro clones there are, and what is the best regarding how the stuff is presented?

I mean, cleanness of the layout, ease of use, good indexing, etc. One that's available as a physical book would be best.

Binding loose sheets so that they lay flat?

Is there a way to bind loose, un-folded sheets so that they lay flat? Preferably so that it also looks good 😅

Suomalainen kirjojen nettikauppa

The problem of Continual Light, how do YOU handle it?

How do you handle the obvious problem with Continual Light?*

In case you don't understand what I mean, it's that the spell is a second level spell that provides light "brighter than torch" and is - like the name implies - permanent. So why isn't the world flooded with Continual Light items and be done with candles, torches and lanterns? It only takes a 3rd level Magic-User to cast it, and okay, they can cast it once per day, but if an MU were to start a business selling light casting trinkets that does not have the side effect of burning your house down by accident, I think there'd be a decent market for it.

If you want any other spell to be a permanent enchantment on an item, you have to be a 9th level MU and spend tons of gold manufacturing it. Making even a scroll with 1st level spell costs 1100 gp and takes 8 days to make.

I want to hear how you have reasoned this out, or is it just something you push under the rug and never-ever think about? Or are the magical light items a feature in your setting? After all, this is the only cheap magical item that's possible early on.

I'm also looking for ideas how to handle it when it eventually becomes an issue. I just started a BECMI campaign with old friends that I used to play RPG's in our youth, and I just know these mad lads will figure out a way to abuse these things (and I don't mind, we're out to have fun anyways) 😃

*I know magic is generally world breaking if you start to think about it even a bit more deeply, I just want to focus on this small detail that bugs me.

Just got Fire Immunity from the first Holy Mountain, and next Holy Mountain I can get Explosion Immunity, and Electricity (or Electricity Immunity) after that according to Noitool. How safe am I from stuff?

As the title says. I know I'll end up dead by something stupid anyways, and it's not even granted I can get past to the Coal Pits, but is there anything special I should be watching for? If I survive Snowy Depths, what are the dangers in the Hiisi Base? And should I get Electricity or Electricity Immunity?

How do you handle slings in your games?

Having been interested in slings for a while now, I find it curious that the deadly weapon of the ancient past is a low tier weapon in fe. D&D. And the ammunition weight is pretty ridiculous as well, making 5 stones or bullets weigh just one coin (ie. 1/10th of a pound, or around 50g, making one bullet just 10g). The ancient slingers used ammunition that weighed even 250g, though it was more common to use around 150g or 100g bullets, which is 10-15 times heavier. Pictured are a 10g and 150g stones. You'd have to shoot the tiny one pretty fast for it to do even that 1d4 of damage 😅 and the heavier one, well if it hits you squarely in the noggin at 160km/h, I think it would do a bit more than that.

Searching for traps, how to?

As the title says. I've looked for this in the Red books and RC, but apart from the Thief's ability, and the limited Dwarf ability, I don't seem to be able to find any rule about how to look for traps for other characters.

In the Moldvay Basic it's simple 1 out of 6 chance for others, and 2 out of 6 for Dwarf, which is what I'll go with and just ignore the Thief skill, but is it really so that there are no general rules for looking for traps in BECMI? Sounds really odd that only Thief would be able to do that.

Hupsista, saatana. Mitenkä se nyt niin kävi, että Rydmanhan se taas oli se valehtelija? Miten tuntuu, että ne on järjestään nuo oikeistolaiset kun puhuu kakkaa, etenkin isoissa asioissa?

Looking for OSR Discord servers

Like the title says. I looked, and there weren't any recent posts about this subject, so I think it might be time to list here the Discord servers you recommend on the subject.

All I know of is the Tenkar's Tavern.
