I wanted to make a stronger frame that didn’t fall over as the plant grows. I designed this model in AutoCAD Fusion 360. The design features short stubs at the end of each ledge to prevent the plants from sliding off the edge of the support frame. The the legs feature beveled points to help the legs penetrate the soil, and the edges feature round fillets to prevent damage to the plants. I printed the final version in PETG-HF.

I made a tall version that takes up the entire A1 build plate when printed flat, and a 75% scale version to fit a smaller flower pot. The first photo is the big one, and the second photo is the smaller one.

Curious if there’s an optimized solution/software for 3D Scanning using the Xbox Kinect V2?

I’m curious if anyone else has already been through this process and has an optimized open source code for using Xbox Fusion Explorer for 3D Scanning or knows of another commercial software that is capable of controlling and capturing scans using the Xbox Kinect?

I have an Xbox Kinect for XBOX ONE Model 1520. An AI is walking me through the steps to modify the Kinect Fusion Explorer code to “unlock” the sensors capabilities and resolution beyond what Microsoft pre-coded it to do for the Xbox Kinect for gaming, effectively allowing me to 3D scan objects in higher resolution which the sensor and modern graphics cards are more capable of processing than the original intent of the Kinect sensor.

So far, I have:

  1. Increased Volume Voxels per Meter from 256 to 2048
  2. Increased XYZ Reconstruction Resolution from 384\^3 to 768\^3
  3. Increased Maximum Integration Weight up to 1000

I tried a Smooth Build Plate and don’t want to ever go back to Textured PEI! What do I need to know about using the Smooth Build Plates?

I printed my first prototypes for a new model using a smooth plate and Octogram Spiral. It’s beautiful. I am amazed.

What do I need to know about using the Smooth Build Plates more regularly? Do I just need to clean it between each print? Should I be using Bambu Labs liquid glue with it?

I print PLA, PETG, and TPU. I’ve only tried PLA on it so far, but plan to run PETG-HF for a production run of some prints for Halloween!

Don’t be dumb like me. I bought an 80qt Sterlite gasketed storage bin from Amazon for $35 a few months ago.

I was at my local Costco today and saw they sell 54qt Sterlite gasketed storage bins for $9.99, so I figured I’d share this deal.

Sharing my latest Viperfish model update and edge-of-my-seat end of spool jitters!

On my original Viperfish model, I made the teeth a little too thin and the supports were very difficult to take off without snapping the teeth. I jumped into learning Blender and redesigned and reshaped the teeth so that they’re bigger (errr scarier!) and stronger so that they’re supports don’t interfere with them as much as the original model.

I started the updated print thinking I’d run out of the luminous filament, but fortunately had a few grams to spare! This was my closest to end of spool print so far lol. The end of spool came out crystal clear glow in the dark, which I love.

Let me know what you think if you print one!! This one was 100% scale. I’ve printed the prior version at full plate scale and it turned out awesome too at ~ 12-13” total length! I plan to print the max scale one next this weekend! The supports become easier to take off the larger the scale of print too, which is nice.

EDIT: The maker world print profile is AMS multicolor to choose different body and eyes colors. For the single color print like the one in the photos, just choose the same color for the eyes and body!

After more tuning than I care to admit, I finally finished a support-free TPU Squishy NEE-DOH like Squishy Cube

I modeled this simple cube in Fusion 360, but man it was a bear to print successfully in TPU! For the final version, I ended up with a single wall, 3% gyroid infill, adaptive layers, along with a host of other minor tweaks to the print and filament settings, and it prints support-free on my Bambu A1 using Inland TPU 95A. I tested in both White and Color-Changing.

It’s not quite a NeeDoh, but it’s definitely squishy! Hopefully this print helps to undercut the overpriced, popping, oozing, $20 NeeDoh craze and give the kiddos something just as squishable but more durable and without the mess!

3D Scanner for Body Scanning for 3D Modeling & Printing of Orthotics/Prosthetics

What would you recommend. Specifically, I am looking to scan an adult lower leg and foot to 3D print an ankle-foot orthotic.

Edit: I don’t have a defined budget yet. Mainly looking for feedback to help determine a budget.

My son and I are creating a portfolio of creepy deep sea fish for our Halloween yard display. Here’s our first 3D model: a Glow In the Dark Angler Fish.

My kids (grade school age) wanted to create a unique project for our Halloween yard display, so we decided on a creepy, scary deep sea fish theme for this year. I (dad) drafted this Angler Fish model in Fusion 360 based of a creepy picture my son found online. Our plan is to add to the creepy fish portfolio. We’re sharing the 1st one here, a creepy glow in the dark single color angler fish. I plan to upload a multicolor version with black body, red/glowing eyes, and glowing teeth soon also…I plan to test print that profile next!

We’ve shared the first print profile, which printed great in luminous rainbow PLA (which we ironically didn’t know glowed in the dark until after we printed it lol…we were pleasantly surprised!!!).

Please test it out and let us know what you think! Also, if you have suggestions for other creepy deep sea fish/creatures, let us know in the comments what we should add to the collection!
