Am I the A**hole?

Whilst playing in a tournament with prescriptive army lists in the first game, I was playing against someone who was using the same list as me with the same allies restrictions. I had taken note of all the allies restrictions and included the rubbish as well as the better parts of the allies as prescribed by the tournament organiser and communicated this to my opponent. He did nothing. Later he was wo win a prize.

I'm quite pissed off as the organiser checked my list and that of my opponent, Insisted I take the allies but not my opponent!

So far I haven't complained, but I think I need to do so.

Am I the A**hole?

Clubbing it! Republican Romans vs Seleucids Part 2

It's been a funny week. Ocular Shingles (on my forehead and around my eye) has meant painting is a massive no-no as to avoid any unnecessary scarification- a position that ill finds me as I love painting! Being currently unwise to scratch my very itchy and painful forehead or eye, I was luckily able to continue to scratch the wargaming itch by getting to the club, hat gracing my head, in the event anyone decided to lick my forehead! Joke..... sort of!

OK, Republican Romans vs Seleucids Part 2!

For many more pictures and a full AAR/Bat. Rep. please go to my Just Add Water Painting and Wargaming blog here:

Classical Mauryan Indian Archers and Spearmen & Workbench Catch Up

For many more images and chat please go to my Just Add Water Wargaming and Painting Blog here:

https://justaddwater-bedford.blogspot.com/2026/08/classical-mauryan-indian-archers-and.html

I was hoping to get this Classical/Mauryan Indian army ready for an event but delays in being able to order the miniatures I needed to add and delays in painting have left me with the army just about half painted! Still, I am able to borrow one for the event so all is well. also, I have committed to putting on a display game at Battleground Wargames Show in November which really makes the painting of these Indians unpractical if I am to be able to put my energy into the upcoming display game.

Cheers

Perry Miniatures Converted Mounted Infantry for El Teb New Pictures

This post is an updated amalgam of a few posts from 2015 with new pictures. The lighting wasn't great on the last series of pictures so I took the liberty of retaking the shots and added a number of pictures of the single bases for those interested in the detail

For details on how the conversions were achieved and the painting too please go to:

Sassanid Javelinmen

These Wargames Foundry Sassanid Javelinmen have been sitting on a shelf waiting for the grass tufts to arrive before being photographed. There's something about the way in which Wargames Foundry sculpts pop out of the moulds that is very pleasing when it comes to painting them up. They are almost always a pleasure to colour in.

Clubbing it! Warlord Games, Cruel Seas- Channel Dash

Last Thursday at the club saw me, with my usual coterie of friends, playing another game of Cruel Seas by Warlord Games. This is actually my third game so one would think I would have digested the rules by now, but not so! The game was another learning experience and I was largely playing follow my leader with fellow Kriegsmarine kameraden Matt. I do really enjoy this game, which came as a the first time I played as, having played a veritable plethora of Naval wargames in the past at SESWC organised by Naval historian Angus Konstam; despite the elite company at the time they were not games that really hit home with me.

This weeks game was right up my street and had me quite excited as we were to play a Late Medieval game. If any of you remember my La Journee blog you will know of my love of all things Late Medieval. Sadly/stupidly I closed the blog a number of years back...... well, you live and you learn.....

Jim was kind enough to bring in the bulk of his Late Medieval collection as we were planning on playing a run through of  a battle that we have planned to replay later in the year for the Society of Ancients, Battle Day in the North. After a wee bit of shuffling and sorting of troops we managed to get the units sorted into something more akin to what they might look like on the day.

I would like to ask anyone who's on the know not to mention which battle it is that we have here.

Influential Miniature Painters and Why - Jock Ramage

For more ruminations and many more images of Jock's brilliant brushwork please head over to my Just Add Water Blog here:

https://justaddwater-bedford.blogspot.com/2021/08/influential-miniature-painters-and-why.html?brid=YWdncwGIjAYGHokUemzEsgCavIem

Jock Ramage. It might not be immediately apparent but there is a lot of Jock's influence in my brushwork. Having done a Fine Art degree at Uni; what immediately stuck me about Jock's work was the "painterly" style contrasted with the very deliberate brushstrokes marking out their territory on the models. All very studious and aimed at a specific effect. All his miniatures, in a word I do not like using when describing miniature painting, "pop". "Pop" is a word not usually used in the high brow world of Fine Art to describe a contrast that brings out a three dimensionality which would not be apparent other then for the painter's skill in defining a contrast

Coming Soon, North Star Hussite Wars Knights

For more ruminations and images of what is to come, please pop over to my Just Add Water Blog here:

I was very please to hear the announcement yesterday and reveal today from North Star Miniatures about the up and coming release a range of plastic miniatures suitable for the Hussite Wars, and that this range would include, not just the Hussites but the forces of the armies of the Catholics who fought them and by extension Eastern armours and fashions.
