I myself joined when I was 18 and did 8ish years. Hearing of the new age cap has me wondering what it would have been like to joined so late in life and being surrounded by so many younger folks.
Right now 48 year old me is settled in life and could not imagine the military life.
Like a lot of folks, my introduction to Larry McMurtry was his novel Lonesome Dover, which is on my top 5 novels of all time. I finished the series, and then added to my TBR his novel "Moving On". Last night I finished it, and I am not going to lie, I think it had a bigger impact on me than Lonesome Dove did.
I think it's probably due to being married now for over 20 years, and understanding the challenges that come along with it. For the story to not have an overarching plot, I found it kept me feeling anxious, and would often times catch me off guard. Such an amazing book that I would recommend to anyone.

I live in the DFW area of Texas, and spent some of my childhood in Bismarck and have family there. What blows me away is how the home prices seem to be very similar to the prices here. I am just curious what job market exists in the area to allow that.
In now way is this post to pass judgement.
