[Gen 7] One of the quickest shiny hunts I've recorded. 115 resets for a shiny Regigigas!

Managed to save yet another shiny legendary from the brink of Pokemon Bank's shutdown. This one was a priority hunt for me due to the fact that Regigigas is painful to hunt in SwSh and BDSP.

Pokemon Bank to shut down on 27 February 2027

Yeah, this sucks. Especially with the amount of shiny hunts I did in these games as well as the fact that this means that shiny Naganadel and Silvally may no longer be available.

Do we know where and when exactly the future is supposed to be?

So I can hear some of you already thinking that the answer to this is quite obvious - it's the Hidden Land, right?! Just look at the scenery - Temporal Tower is there, Frozen Island is to the south, and the overhead map even resembles the Hidden Land!

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be as simple as that. The entrance to Dusk Forest seems to resemble that of Foggy Forest almost damn perfectly. In fact, the player has the same sensation there as they do at Foggy Forest, seemingly suggesting that they're the same location and they've been here before. Additionally, Grovyle does not know where the Hidden Land is or even how to get to it, which comes off as a bit weird if the future is in fact the Hidden Land. Maybe the chances are he probably is in fact in the Hidden Land, but he just doesn't know that he's actually in it.

In fact, this leads to some rather interesting and disturbing parallels. If Dusk Forest is indeed the future version of Foggy Forest, then this effectively means the future dungeons are a retread of the expedition that you went on with the guild but with some embellishments; Chasm Cave is Craggy Coast, and Dark Hill is Mt. Horn. The difference here is the implications are much darker and it works pretty well from a storytelling perspective - instead of going on a fun expedition with the guild, you're desperately running from Dusknoir and Sableye and trying to escape the future.

There's also the matter of just how far into the future the future actually is. While the planet's paralysis was meant to come on quite quickly from the present given that Temporal Tower was collapsing, here the planet is already suffering from paralysis. While time doesn't flow, even from a relative standpoint we don't know just how long the paralysis has taken place. We can probably tell that it's been for a rather long time given how Glalie and Mamoswine have gone primal. Additionally, this could mean some locations might have possibly shifted in this time; maybe the expedition locations could've ended up in the Hidden Land, who knows.

So based on this, do we know where the future world is, or approximately just how far into the future we're playing here?

[Gen 7] I thought I was losing hope in this hunt but then, 2431 encounters later, he shined.

To think I was nearly twice over odds, I thought I might have either miscounted, or just failed to spot the shiny! Either way, all paid off well in the end.

Look ma, no Staraptor, Luxray, Lucario or Garchomp!

So after finishing Diamond, I went to Pearl next which was a comparatively easier run to be honest, with fewer deaths. Purugly was lost in the E4 but I managed to salvage the Cynthia fight with a Torterra sweep.

A squirrel, a beehive, a hippo, a skunk, a fairy and a yoga practitioner walk into a bar...

Quite frankly one of my messiest Elite 4 performances yet in a Nuzlocke, yet I still managed to pull through. Half the team present here was killed.

Is Shoda Sah Shrine really supposed to be this easy?

So I just managed to finish Shoda Sah Shrine, and quite frankly I found it really underwhelming. I was expecting there to be more ball holders or perhaps that launcher off to the right being involved, but nope. What also didn’t help either was the fact I didn’t even bother using the launchers; I just threw the balls into the water and spammed Cryonis to slowly inch them towards the holders.

What didn't help is the fact that this was the 78th shrine I've just completed, and I seemingly had more trouble with one of the Great Plateau shrines compared to this. Pictured is how I managed to solve the shrine.

Those of you that don't turn off your indicators after making a turn, why?

While I've seen my fair share of people complaining about people not using their indicators, one of my pet peeves of mine is people that rely too much on the indicators turning off automatically, to the point that they just leave them winking away. It just confuses other drivers into thinking that you're about to make another turn, so you'd naturally hang back waiting for that inevitable turn, but it just never comes.

Also even then, even if your indicator doesn't turn off automatically, you can always just turn it off manually. When I'm just about to complete a turn, I've always placed my little finger on the indicator prepared to flick it to turn it off, in the even that they don't turn off automatically. Quite often I've actually turned off the indicator myself, rather than relying on the indicators to automatically turn off.

As heartbreaking as the loss last night was, England are still a good team. We're still in a better place now than we were 10-15 years ago.

I know that Tuchel is getting quite a lot of crap due to his poor managerial decisions during the Argentina game last night, and quite frankly I do think there were some poor decisions here, not to mention the fact that we basically just parked the bus after we scored and let Argentina dictate the pressure.

The thing is though, our record has greatly improved ever since our lull all those years back. Remember when we didn't even qualify for Euro 2008, as well as the really poor performances in World Cup 2010 and 2014? What about that humiliating loss to Iceland in 2016? We've definitely moved on past those and we're a much more coherent team. We've made a lot of progress in the years since and we're now a legitimately good team in international football compared to the laughing stock we were back then, actually being able to tango with the other major titans in international football.

If you still don't believe me, here are all of England's losses in the past 20 years:

  • Euro 1996 - KO'd by Germany in semi-final
  • World Cup 1998 - KO'd by Argentina in R16
  • Euro 2000 - Eliminated in group stage
  • World Cup 2002 - KO'd by Brazil in quarter-final
  • Euro 2004 - KO'd by Portugal in quarter-final
  • World Cup 2006 - KO'd by Portugal in quarter-final
  • Euro 2008 - Did not qualify
  • World Cup 2010 - KO'd by Germany in R16
  • Euro 2012- KO'd by Italy in quarter-final
  • World Cup 2014 - Eliminated in group stage
  • Euro 2016 - KO'd by Iceland in R16
  • World Cup 2018 - KO'd by Croatia in semi-final
  • Euro 2020 - KO'd by Italy in final
  • World Cup 2022 - KO'd by France in quarter-final
  • Euro 2024 - KO'd by Spain in final
  • World Cup 2026 - KO'd by Argentina in semi-final

This is also considering the fact that this is the fourth time we've reached a semi-final in the World Cup, as quite a lot of the time we tend to suffer the quarter-final curse and getting defeated there, not to mention the other losses in the R16 and even earlier.

If we manage to win against France on Saturday, this will be our best performance in a World Cup ever since 1966 considering last time we crashed in the semi-finals we lost the third-place playoffs. Here's hoping we keep our chins up, as as much as the loss was heartbreaking, this World Cup could still be a historic moment for England.

[CDI] How did Link end up in Lady Alma's mirror at the end of Wand of Gamelon?

Yes, yes, I know, it's the CD-i games, but there's something which has been on my mind for a while.

At the end of Wand of Gamelon, Zelda wonders what happened to Link, now that King Harkinian has been saved from Ganon. Lady Alma remarks that she was just a bore, prompting Zelda to smash her mirror, at which point Link somehow materialises out of thin air.

For some reason it's never explained why, or even how, Link ended up in the mirror, and the last thing we heard about Link was that he gave Lady Alma one of his empty bottles in exchange for a kiss. It's one of these rather weird plot holes which never got explained, and I'm not sure if it was a factor in the poor reviews the CD-i games eventually got.

Based on this, how did Link even end up in the mirror in the first place? Even better, how did Zelda even know Link was in the mirror?

Did anyone else cheat their way through this shrine?

So in case anyone is wondering, this is Rin Oyaa shrine in the Hebra region.

It took me a short while to eventually figure it out, but I eventually happened upon a solution. My solution was to carry the ball up to the platform, cast Stasis on the ball, whack it three times with a two-handed weapon, and then let the ball be carried to the switch using the wind currents.

I did some research afterwards because I felt like I'd cheated this shrine, considering the metal blocks. I didn't really bother with them to complete this shrine, but it turned out the intended method was to use the blocks to manipulate the fans in order to direct the ball towards the holder, making me feel like that I'd basically just BS'd my way through this shrine using an unintended method. At least I managed to get through it, no matter the cost!

This isn't the first time I've cheated a shrine like this; for the Ne'ez Yohma shrine in Zora's Domain, I just used bombs and Stasis to bypass the waterfall entirely, instead of using the intended method which was to use Cryonis on the waterfall.

And as for the metal blocks? I just used them as stepping stones to get to the chest.

Was I right to have offered a draw in this position?

Reposted because I just realised I forgot to place my king on the board, and some of the other pieces were in the wrong position.

So this was a game that I played in a tournament last night, and this was the final position. We played a rather dynamic game, and both sides did make some rather glaring blunders, including hanging our queens in the middlegame. As soon as the endgame closed in, I tried to make use of my pawn majority to attempt to take down all of his pawns so I could stop him promoting. In the meantime, I attempted to push mine.

Eventually, we got to the position outlined here. I felt that neither side was able to make progress, and I offered a draw after Black played Kf7. My opponent accepted the draw offer, and that was that.

With this being said, if you were in this position as White, would you have continued to fight for a win, or offered a draw? For the past 10 moves, no pawn moves were made after I pushed f6, nor were any pieces taken.

Some of the views around Old Gang Smelting Mill.

Yet another of my weekend strolls landed me here, and it’s honestly quite shocking I’ve never been up here before. It really feels like you’ve stepped back in time, looking back at nature taking over what was the heart of the lead mining industry in Swaledale.

Truth be told, I did also get a few Breath of the Wild vibes while having a look around!

Looking out towards Leyburn from above Middleham Castle.

Went out for a little stroll this morning and once again managed to capture another piece of Yorkshire Dales beauty. A brief reprieve for my tired legs!

Are there any good rupee farming spots early game?

Yes, it's another one of "those" questions. I've done some snooping around regarding it, and a lot of the sources I've found seem to correspond to more advanced tactics or areas which unlock later on in the game.

So I've had this game since I got my first Switch in 2017, and back when I played it, the game didn't really click with me so I ended up putting it down for quite a long time. It's now been about 9 years and I've picked the game up again, and due to more open world exposure with games like Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, it seems like it's finally clicking, so in the grand scheme of things I'm still a relatively new player.

My issue right now is finding good rupee farming spots. I currently have 81 rupees, and one of my main initial goals with the rupees is to get the Stealth Armor, and start upgrading it while having enough to unlock the first Great Fairy. Unfortunately, the Stealth Armor is quite costly, and I feel like I might be out of my depth here.

Here's my loadout so far:

  • Besides the Great Plateau, I've unlocked the Dueling Peaks, Central and Lanayru towers.
  • As of this instant, I'm currently standing at the top of the Central tower.
  • I just got to Hateno Village, but ended up being sidetracked looking for shrines. I haven't gotten the camera rune yet, nor have I started upgrading my runes.
  • I currently have 1.6 Stamina Wheels, 3 hearts and I've done 19 shrines. My main objective here is to get 2 full wheels, and then pour enough upgrades into hearts so I can get the Master Sword before mixing it up a bit.
  • I've found only 2 Koroks so far, which feels surprisingly weak at this point in the game. I will be hunting down Koroks a bit later on, but I've used one of them to upgrade my weapons inventory.
  • I've mainly been hoarding monster parts. I've cooked a few Bokoblin parts to make elixirs, but I've kept the rest of them just in case I need them later on. Similarly, I haven't touched any of my ancient parts.
  • I haven't done any Divine Beasts yet. However, the game seems to be nudging me to do Vah Ruta first due to my pathing towards the Lanayru tower on my way to Hateno.
  • My first blood moon triggered recently, so I'm tempted to go back to the Great Plateau and farm a few more arrows.
  • I have the DLC. I've just gotten Majora's Mask so far, and I do plan to combine it with the Stealth Armor for risk-free exploration.

With that being said, are there any efficient risk-free early game rupee farming spots just using the areas I've already unlocked? I really don't want to have to do anything risky like engage a bunch of Guardians...

Nope, he wasn't killed. He was thrown into the PC. At least I got to try out Rapidash for the first time!

[Pokemon Sapphire] I dare you to find someone else who has won with Delcatty and Plusle. I'll wait.

Just come fresh off a Nuzlocke, and it's safe to say Delcatty wasn't just a load, he really did end up contributing in the E4! Registeel definitely was the MVP here, being able to chain kill multiple of Steven's mons before falling to his Metagross.

Is there still any reason to use Time Stopper?

So this just came to me when I was going through my old PC, and I ended up finding an installation of Time Stopper on there from back in 2014. I remember trying to use it all those years back but couldn't figure it out, and this eventually led me down a rabbit hole where I ended up discovering similar apps to extend the trial period of trialware, such as RunAsDate.

With this being said, I've seen a few proponents claim that Time Stopper is outdated, and quite a lot of suggestions to use RunAsDate instead to extend trialware periods. Based on this, is there even any reason to still be using Time Stopper, or is it largely obsoleted?

Just beat Super Metroid for the first time!

Quite a lot of time was spent scoping every room to see if I’d missed anything, but what a game it’s been! My Zero Mission instincts kicked in a few times and I did have to get used to the floaty controls, but at least I pulled through in the end!

What was the first episode you remember watching?

Was just thinking about this when discussing the same idea in a Discord server.

From what I remember, the first episode I remember watching was Gordon and the Famous Visitor. I remember vaguely that it was being shown in a hospital waiting room along with what I presume was other S3 episodes, high up on a TV screen. From what I remember I only remember getting up to Diesel Does It Again but didn't really go further after this.
