What is curriculum at IIM ahmedabad for first year.Is it really hectic? Are courses really tough. If not what makes people say PGP 1 survivor ?

Can a fresher with no finance skills and no Work experience survive it.

How tough is the in campus academic competition ?

How are you dealing when everything is feeling hectic ?

Didn't mention Hindi as language studied at Matriculation level.Does it mean I won't get AAO state cadre posts in Hindi speaking states ?

My matriculation covers Telugu,Hindi, English. But i mentioned only Telugu and english as we have only two options to select.Does it restrict my chances of getting AAO post in Hindi speaking states.Or they ask again later during post preference?

Missed UPSC Pre by 1-2 marks. Shifting to SSC CGL for a backup before 2027 attempt. Need advice on joining timelines & leave rules during probation

Hey everyone,

Need some realistic advice from people who have transitioned from SSC CGL to UPSC, or are currently managing both.

My Situation:

I am a serious UPSC aspirant. I just missed the Prelims cutoff by a razor-thin margin of 1–2 marks. While the core knowledge is there, the uncertainty is taking a mental toll. To secure financial independence and a solid backup, I’ve decided to write SSC CGL. My aptitude in Math, Reasoning, English, and GK is quite strong, so I’m confident about converting CGL if I focus entirely on Mains.

My ultimate target remains UPSC 2027 (which will be my 5th attempt), which I want to give with a job security net in hand.

I need clarity on two very specific technicalities regarding the timeline and Central Civil Services (CCS) rules:

The Joining Timeline: A friend mentioned that if I clear CGL, the entire process moves fast enough that I will get my formal posting and join the department before June. Looking at recent trends for both Desk posts (CSS, MEA) and Field posts (GST Inspector, ITI, CAG), is this June joining timeline realistic, or do state allocations push it much later?

Leave Rules During Probation for UPSC Mains: If I join the CGL post next year and simultaneously clear UPSC Prelims 2027, what are the realistic chances of getting leave for UPSC Mains? Since I will be a new joinee on probation, I won't have accumulated Earned Leave (EL).

Will departments easily sanction Extraordinary Leave (EOL / Leave Without Pay) for UPSC Mains if I intimate them at the time of joining via an NOC?

Does the attitude towards granting exam leave vary heavily between Central Secretariat (Delhi) vs. Income Tax/Excise field formations?

If anyone here has successfully taken leave for UPSC Mains during their CGL probation period, please share how you navigated the paperwork and convinced your controlling officer.

Thanks in advance!

26M / NIT Grad / 4 UPSC Attempts Down / Stuck Between CAT (Gap Year Fears) and SSC CGL. Need Direct Advice.

Hey everyone,

I’m hitting one of the lowest phases of my life right now and honestly need some perspective. I have a solid academic background, but UPSC preparation has left me at a crossroads, and I need to fix my life.

My Profile & Timeline:

Background: Graduated from an NIT in 2022. Skipped campus placements entirely to pursue UPSC.

UPSC Journey: 4 attempts down. In the 2026 Prelims, I'm scoring around 72–76 marks, which means I’m not making the cut. Note: I love the prep and I do not want to give up on UPSC entirely, but I absolutely need financial/career security now.

Backup Attempts So Far:

CAT 2022: Scored 96 percentile with minimal effort. Got calls from new IIMs but skipped the interviews for UPSC.

SSC CGL 2024: Scored 117 marks without a single day of dedicated preparation.

Lost state PCS Group 1 by 20 marks in mains.

Defense: Made it to the SSB interview last year but was unfortunately merit-outed/not in the final list.

The Dilemma:

I know I have the potential to clear alternative exams, but I am paralyzed by conflicting choices:

  1. The SSC CGL Route

The Pro: I know I have the aptitude to crack it if I actually study for it. It gives a stable government job quickly.

The Doubt: People around me keep saying it’s "just a clerical job" and that I’ll face a lack of job satisfaction later in life. Is SSC CGL worth the hype, or will an NIT grad feel underutilized and stagnant there?

  1. The MBA / CAT Route

The Pro: I can realistically score 96–98+ percentile again if I focus. A Tier-1/2 MBA could give me the high-growth corporate life, corporate leverage, and financial freedom I want.

The Doubt: I have 4 consecutive gap years (2022–2026) completely blank on paper due to UPSC. Will these gap years completely destroy my chances of getting shortlists at top IIMs or during final MBA placements?

What I need advice on:

Is a post-MBA career really as great as it's hyped to be, or is the corporate grind with a 4-year gap a recipe for misery?

Is the "clerical" stigma of SSC CGL real, or are top-tier CGL posts (like Income Tax Inspector, ASO, MEA) actually satisfying and a good base to continue UPSC preparation from?

And is CGL top posts (ITI,GSTI,AAO...) better than MBA

If you were in my shoes—26 years old, NIT degree, high aptitude but zero work ex—how would you play your cards right now to secure your life

Prelims result mostly today, here is the proof !

It's 8 in the evening and still 214 members are at upsc building working.so they are working to release results...

UPSC CUTOFF CAN BE LESS THAN 70

Upsc pre cutoff can be less than 70 also based on Shivin data

I am getting 68.01 in GS and 99.17 in csat.According to Shivin data my rank is 6200/22500

Mostly grand slam question I get +2.5 so my score will be 70.5

But he said only 36% qualifying csat and he also said people who are 70+ and qualifying csat is around 1400

Let's assume 50% qualify CSAT

SO my actual rank will be 3100

This year 11000 students get selected for mains

Out of which GENERAL CATEGORY 4400 + OBC 2900 will be selected

I am obc

So for me to get selected I must get below 7000 rank in the final merit list

As of now in Shivin data my rank is around 3100 (assuming 50% qualify csat)

So there should be around 4000 students outside shivin data who score more than me and also qualify CSAT

Just a little hope....
