Quitting porn to fix desensitization — couldn’t stay hard during first time with my girlfriend
I’m 24 and I’ve identified as gay my whole life. A few months ago I started feeling attracted to women and I’ve been dating a wonderful girl for about 2 months. We have a great emotional connection and she knows I’m mostly gay but that I want to explore this with her.Yesterday was our first time trying to be intimate. I was very excited and attracted to her, but I couldn’t stay hard. It felt like a mix of performance anxiety and desensitization / lack of sensitivity from years of watching porn.I’ve decided this is my sign to finally quit porn for good. I want to recover my natural sensitivity so I can enjoy intimacy with my girlfriend the way I want to.Right now my plan is:
- Complete pornfree (no porn at all)
- Only masturbating occasionally with a fleshlight (very gently, no death grip)
- Focusing on real-life connection with her
I’d love to hear from people who have been in similar situations:
- How long did it take for your sensitivity and erections to improve after quitting porn?
- Any tips that actually helped with performance anxiety when being with a real partner?
- Did anyone here also deal with same-sex attraction while exploring with the opposite sex?
- What was the biggest mindset shift that helped you stay consistent?
Thank you in advance. This feels like an important step for me, both for my relationship and for my own well-being. Any advice or encouragement is appreciated.
