making the first move

It all started last August, when me and a guy from my school went to a festival and ended up spending the last two days in the same friend group. My girlfriends immediately noticed chemistry between us, and honestly, I definitely felt it too.

Ever since then, I’ve tried texting him using random excuses, like asking if he was also going to a party or things like that. He doesn’t like my Instagram stories, but recently he started liking some of my TikToks, which he never used to do before.

My girlfriends have been begging me to “make the first move” for the longest time, but I never really wanted to. Up until a few days ago, when I realized that we literally never see each other at school, and even when we pass by each other, he avoids looking at me. So I started thinking that if I texted him and we talked for a bit and it just didn’t go anywhere, it probably wouldn’t even become awkward, because we don’t really have anything in common or overlapping friend groups.

Ever since I had that realization, I’ve really started wondering how to text him something casual enough that it doesn’t feel forced, but that could still actually lead to a conversation. He’s really shy ,even his best friend said so. The problem is that there’s genuinely nothing we have in common to naturally start talking about.

I also don’t want to make things weird between us since my birthday party is in three weeks and he’s coming. But at the same time, I don’t really want to wait any longer. Obviously, the safest option would probably be to wait until summer break or even until August when the festival comes around again, but that just feels so far away.

So yeah, I really just need some advice.
