Really Old running shoes

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but does anyone know if any of these might be worth any money/worth keeping or just to throw away.(note To make clear that I am not in any way selling on here- just interested if any of you know if these shoes are actually significant or just junk)

couple of old spikes, lots of running shoes
brands are new balance, adidas ,Nike, and a couple of old English brands not too sure about

from the 70s-00s probably

Any help would be really appreciated

Homer Simpson Patch/Embroidery Tattoo 💛✨ Done by myself (InkyShan) in Leigh-On-Sea, Essex!

This one was a TASK! Lots of different yellow tones going on, eager to see it healed so that the light yellows and white can settle and truly stand out amongst the rest.

Saving $$$ with homebrew gels - recipe

I got tired of spending $10-20 on what amounts to sugar goop on my long runs, so I've been playing this summer with a DIY gel recipe. This mix took some tweaking for flavor, but I'm pretty happy with where it's at. This gets you a pretty clean 2:1 glucose-fructose, and for about $0.35 per 100 cal gets you a gel thats nutritionally equal (and very similar recipe wise) to something like Gu.

I've heard people say its too much of a hassle but i can whip up a batch in 15 minutes, and do it in my sink which makes cleanup super quick.

Settling with the following:

(Makes 3x3oz flasks, ~290 cal / ~72g carbs each, ~100mg sodium)

Ingredients:

1 cup maltodextrin

1/4 cup table sugar (sucrose)

1/2 cup fructose

1/8 tsp regular salt

A pinch lite salt

1/2 tsp citric acid

1/4 tsp sodium citrate

1 1/8 cups warm water

A pinch gellan gum

Optional:

Flavor extract

Food coloring

Process:

  1. mix dry ingredients in a blender or other container
  2. in a small cup, mix a tsp or two of dry ingredients with gellan gum
  3. mix 1/2 cup of water with gellan mix in a sauce pan, bring to a simmer
  4. mix 5/8 cup of tap-hot water with dry mix in blender
  5. pour gellan solution into blender, blend if necessary to smooth out
  6. add flavor extract to taste and food coloring
  7. pour into flasks while hot
  8. cool in fridge

Some notes:

- using a large syringe (like 300-500ml) makes getting this in the flasks way easier

- i also tried a number of versions without table sugar, but its less sweet per tbsp than fructose, and its a little less cloying this way (plus cuts cost slightly)

- the gellan gum adds a little cost and hassle but improves palatability substantially. Careful though, the difference in texture between a small and large pinch is pretty substantial.

- the lite salt isn't necessary, just adds a little potassium.

- these 3oz soft flasks are about $9 for 10 and come with a handy little funnel. I've actually found theyre a lot less hassle and mess than single serve gels

- the food coloring feels a little silly, but without it they look an awful lot like a certain white creamy bodily fluid. Idk maybe youre into that kind of thing

- i played around with adding things like orange extracts for flavor, but they added a sort of strange flowery quality. Maybe worth continuing to experiment with but I'm settling on the nuetral flavor for now.

Edit to add: since it keeps getting asked: the flasks are from Amazon. SKYPRO brand, but a bunch of vendors make the exact same thing.

Edit 2: I am aware there are many simpler options. This was my attempt to bridge the flavor gap between store-bought gels and simpler sugar mixes. This is also still pretty easy and mostly just stirring powders together. Just wanted to be detailed here.

How to avoid Deep pressure blisters

Hi,
Just completed IM Lake Placid yesterday. I ran the first half of the marathon and then started experiencing horrible blister pain in the balls of my feet. I’ve experienced these deep pressure related blisters before, so before the run I put baby powder all over my feet, wore toe socks, and applied blister prevention stick-on pads to my insoles. How do you avoid these deep pressure related blisters underneath calluses?? I had to walk the next 13 miles in excruciating pain, like walking on glass. I finished though, and the medics said they were the worst blisters they’d ever seen! Am I just a blister wimp? I cannot describe how tender and painful they are to the touch. I feel like the only correct answer is run more?

Edit: If you saw a guy in a grey t shirt, black running shorts, ironman Maine 70.3 hat hobbling slowly to the finish, that was me!

How do you guys carry a phone?

I picked up running last year and since then have run plenty of half marathons, daily 5ks, and everything in between. I use Strava to track and carry a water bottle on 5k+ and recently thought to myself "damn, this phone is kinda uncomfortable to carry". I tried a vest from Amazon with a water bottle pocket/phone holder but it was uncomfortable and I looked like an absolute tool so my question is what do you guys use to carry a phone?

TLDR: Do I belt, armband, good shorts with a sleeve, invest in a watch (if so, what to all)? Thanks.

Why do people think their toes are supposed to be like this?

Tons of people within the barefoot community claim toes are supposed to be all spaced apart, spread out. Where does this idea come from? Because no where in history, before problematic modern shoes, do people ever have their toes all spread out...

To me, it does not look correct, does not look good at all, and is not necessary. That's technically just my own opinion though... But refer to ancient historical portrayals of human feet before modern shoes, to see zero examples of spread out toes.

So why do people within the barefoot community claim they're supposed to be naturally spread out?

⭐ EDIT : Cheetahs, tigers, bears, wolves, [barefoot animals],etc. toes touch naturally.

Go look up images, even orangutans, and other apes have their fingers and toes naturally touching, if you want to make that comparison. Case closed at this point, our feet don't "HAVE TO" naturally have splayed toes... some people have them, and some people don't, like any other feature. You can still have incredible blance and athleticism without splayed toes btw.

As long as you don't have bunions, don't have overlapping toes, and you have full foot mobility; that is what matters.

Anyone else having issues with blisters on Clifton 10s?

I have done a half marathon and 16km run in them over the last 6 weeks and have had blisters on both feet at side of feet and also on toes.

First pair of Hokas but not a good experience so far
