Pusher tool

Look what I got

But missing pusher tool to fix the moon. Is there anything which can safely be used as a substitute (ignoring the dire warnings in the manual)?

I have flown internationally from PEK twice in 3 weeks (to Mongolia and UK) and both times had my powerbank scrutinized very carefully for ccc marking

It's possible that if it didn't have one I could have started an argument about it, but I am not sure I would have won

Angry Helen

Is my favourite nolanism. In the poem H & M come across disconcertingly as a contented and loving married couple reminiscing away to Telemachus. But then M says this to H:

...summoned it

may be by some god who thought to hand victory to the Trojans, you arrived, with godlike Deiphobus [brother of Hector and Paris] on your heels. You circled our hollow

hiding-place [the wooden horse], striking the surface, calling out the names of the Danaan

captains, in the very voices of each of the Argives’ wives. Diomedes,

Tydeus’ son, and I, and Odysseus were there among them, hearing you

call, and Diomedes and I were ready to answer within, and leap out, but

Odysseus restrained us, despite our eagerness. The rest of the Achaeans

kept silent too, though Anticlus wanted to call out, and reply, till

Odysseus clapped his strong hands over his mouth, saving all the Achaeans,

and he grasped him so till Pallas Athene

led you away.’

This always strikes me as staggering: right at the end of the war Helen is trying to sabotage the Greeks and ensure a Trojan victory. It should follow that she hates and resents her husband. Nolan recognises this

Renault service

This has been discussed before, but my nearest Alpine dealer is 110 miles. Will a Renault main dealer be able and willing to do warranty work and stuff?

Patronymics in homer

Does anyone know, or can grep the texts to find out, how often the full patronymic plus proper name is used by Homer? There is Peleiades Achilles in Iliad 1.1 and there's Odysseus outing himself as Odysseus Laertiades in Odyssey 9. Any others?

All watches should be brand new

Someone once asked James Joyce if they could kiss the hand which wrote Ulysses and he said Certainly not, it did a lot of other things too.

A used watch has been in life situations of perfect strangers that you don't want to think about. It's worn on the ass wipe wrist for starters. That's in addition to the fake, stolen, badly serviced, franken issues. BUY NEW

Goldfinger film improves on the book

Plot holes in the book:

Bond pretends to accidentally reverse into Tilly's car. Not alpha male Aston Martin behaviour and should have made her suspicious.

Goldfinger spares Bond because of Bond's offer to work for him (as a low grade PA). Not what a reasonable supervillain would do. "I know about Grand Slam" works.

Plan in book is to steal the gold which is obviously impossible given its weight and bulk. Irradiating it is genius.

Panoreserve vs Panomatic Lunar

I want one or the other of these and I don't know which. The white dial lunar looks great with the blue sky in the moon window. The reserve is slightly smaller (good) and I don't mind manually winding especially with a reserve indicator

For those who have had one does a moon phase continue to be a fun thing to have? Any comparisons between the two watches?

Barolo Monprivato 2017

I have just bought 2 bottles of this for £75 each from the (UK) Wine Society with a view to drinking for my birthday next month

WS (whom I trust) say drinking now. BB&R (whom I also trust) describe all 2017 Barolo as drinking now but youthful. Am I best to save it for 2027?
