Just bought the new book from Court of Master Sommeliers

Redux of the Sales and Service for the wine professional.

Completely updated and redone with new maps, pictures and information and much better layout. A very nice book to update knowledge and study from. I passed my CMS Cert, years ago but love a good wine book. I am hoping to go for my advanced and am sure I'll be using this!

Just had a browse so far but has useful lists of GCs, Producers, districts etc. Etc.

Should they bring back Giant Prawn Monster Munch?

I seem to remember this as part of the 80s regular line up and there were always four monsters in the character group.

Time to bring it back!!

I was "rushing" 2 ladies with their drinks.

Sorry - a bit of a rant.

I was somming a wine tasting dinner event at a mid-upscale but fairly casual restaurant -fairly low key.

Each person got a glass of prosecco on arrival at 7pm. Seated and then served starter with pairing wine at 7.30. Mains served at 8 ish with pairing wine.

While I was clearing empty glasses from the tables to prepare for dessert and the final wine, two ladies still had two barely touched glasses of prosecco. This would have been a full 1 hr 30 minutes after they were served.

I asked politely if I could clear them/were they finished with them?.. they then proceeded to complain that i was trying to rush them and they want to take their time. (They had drunk the two following wines)

I apologized and said 'Oh I'm so sorry i thought they might be done with them"

After the meal the two same glasses, untouched were still on the table 🙄

Sometimes i think people just want to complain because they can, not because you've done something wrong

Sommed a nice private dinner event last night.

Good range.

Ducru 2018 was way too young

Mouton 2007 was spot on (not a great vintage so drinking well now)

Ygay 2010 was on point. Could age a bit more but drinking very well now, not sure I'd want to age it much more personally.

Sassicaia 2015 was amazing - plenty of life left but tasting great.

JL Chavy P-M 2022 big and ripe. Not quite enough acidity for me, especially for a Pouligny but still delicious

Dr Burklin-Wulf 2023 Auslese Riesling. So elegant and balanced. Wonderful wine.

EDIT: Added vintages

Do you rebuy albums if you bought grey market versions in the past?

As I've only been seriously collecting Jazz vinyl for a couple of years, when i started I wasn't really aware of the gray market reissues. However, now i am aware i avoid them, but the question is:

Do you buy genuine releases/legit reissues to "replace" your grey market (or Scorpio pressings) ??

On the way to a work training and passed a record store....

Had half an hour to kill and couldn't help myself. I literally have no willpower.

Peeking in my bag on the bus on the way home....

Seen in Rough Trade in London

Saw this in Rough Trade in the East End (London) and it made me smile!

Is "Please wait to be seated" the most ignored sign of all time?

It seems to me that customers can't be bothered to wait these days and don't care about dirty tables or reserved tables.

Is there a growing self-important vibe that means they think they have a right to a table regardless of restaurant policy of being seated by a host?

Has anyone actually managed to paint a tartan seat cover??

This is a detail option from the AK FJ43 Pickup truck. (AK35002)

I think I'll go for the buff!! 😂

Scotland flag (2 versions) in the style of Welsh Flag

Two versions of a Scotland flag in the style of the Flag of Wales. One with the the red lion rampant from the Royal banner and the other with the white unicorn rampant, the symbol of Scotland, first used by King William 1 of Scotland as supporters for the shield (featuring the Red lion) on his CoA in the 12th Century

Do Airfix still send out spare parts?

A couple of years ago after losing a crucial part I emailed Airfix and they kindly sent a replacement.

Sadly (stupidly) i have done the same and lost a flap from my 1:48 Supermarine Seafire. I emailed Airfix at the "spares" email but they just bounce and say that address is restricted to internal email addresses

Does anyone know if I have any hope or an alternative route?

Thanks!

Fabulous wine from Friuli -Venezia Giulia -Collio DOC from Zuani Vigne.

Picked this up for £27 from Lea & Sandeman in Chiswick, London.

Blend of Friulano, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio.

Dry, Medium-Full Bodied with notable texture (from some cold maceration maybe), crisp acidity, and great balance. This is a flavourful wine with a nice aroma.

Aromas and flavours yellow plum, greengage, peach, yellow apple, cashew, preserved lemon and honeysuckle.

I really enjoyed this wine. Highly recommend.

Finally passed my Academy of Cheese L3

Yesterday I got my Certificate and pin and celebrated my Level 3 fellowship of the Academy of Cheese!

It's been 2 years of studying when I could fit it in, and finally got it done.

I would highly recommend their courses for enthusiasts and professionals alike.

They also tie in with the ACS's Certified Cheese Professional certification as approved training hours.

Another splurge. I couldn't help myself....

My biannual visit to Empire Records in St Albans. (I do some training for a restaurant opposite twice a year) and always look forward to it. Spent too much yet again. 💸

Included is a funk/soul record from Jalen Ngonda in this pic.
