To my understanding, 10-25% of Jews in Yemen migrated to Israel already before 1948. Notable communities of Yemeni Jews were established in the vicinity of Jerusalem and remained a distinct group in various enclaves. This is remarkable as other distant Jewish groups from other Islamic countries did not migrate to what is now Israel pre-1948 in this manner over a few decades and to such high proportions of the original group.

What caused Yemeni Jews to leave at high rates early on pre-1948 compared to other Jews from the Islamic world? How did they interact with the other Jewish communities of what is now modern Israel and what challenges did they face?

Apologies if this question has been asked before, just I was surprised to visit the main subreddit and it has changed so much. The amount of anti-UAE and anti-Gulf countries sentiment is astounding. Also, the dehumanization of Emirati citizens as an inherently bad people appears to be spread by some. I presume this is due to the anti-UAE sentiment on other social media platforms which has seeped into any discussion related to the country.

What has happened to the moderation? How can this be fixed?

I am aware of claims that Hashemite paternal haplogroups/lineages have been made public or vice versa for other Sayyid lineages though I am unsure if any legitimate academic or genealogical studies have been conducted on Sayyid families. Finding a highly specific lineage that can be traced back across geographic distance to Sayyid claimant families with rigorous historical documentation would assist greatly in ascertaining legitimate Sayyid lineages.

Have any secular academic efforts attempted to trace or verify global Sayyid lineages? Including in terms of genealogy, genetics or historical sources?

Thought I would ask as this subreddit tends to have the most comprehensive view of niche topics such as this.

To my understanding, the Mandaeans claim descent from the Nasoreans, a group of John the Baptist’s followers from 1st century Judea. Though from genetic studies they largely appear to be near identical to Assyrians. What evidence indicates they do or do not have heritage descending from ancient Judeans?

I haven’t heard much on the relationship between Mandaeans and Jews historically. Does the rabbinic literature reference Mandaeans at all?

Are there any documents or sayings that scholars believe plausibly originate from the sahaba? Which sahaba in particular have the most plausibly accurate traditions or information surrounding them?

Israel‘s yerida crisis has received more attention recently, with some commentators using it for propaganda that ”Israel is doomed”. However, they fail to consider ~50% of all migrants are consistently former Soviet olim, a significant portion of whom are recent often with a less strong connection to Jewish identity or the land of Israel.

On a serious note, does the emigration crisis have a workable solution? What do you propose?
