Japanese hair straightening

I’m considering getting Japanese hair straightening and wanted opinions from people who’ve actually done it. My hair is naturally really curly/frizzy and it never stays straight no matter what I do. I live in a super humid area too, so even after straightening it gets ruined fast.

I’ve been quoted around $350 for short-medium hair and I’m trying to figure out if it’s actually worth it long term. I mainly just want smooth, manageable hair without having to constantly fight humidity or re-straighten it every day.

For people who’ve had it done, was it worth the damage/upkeep? Did it actually hold up in humidity?

Botox 💉💉

Looking for recommendations for reasonably priced Botox clinics in the area. Preferably somewhere reputable with good results that doesn’t charge insanely high prices per unit. Bonus if the staff are friendly and don’t try to upsell everything.

Would appreciate hearing your experiences and approximate pricing if you’re comfortable sharing.

My male centred mother cannot comprehend a woman doing things for herself.

My mom is so male centred that it genuinely disturbs me sometimes. She’s been in a sexless marriage for years and I feel like it’s made her obsess over men, sex, and male validation to the point where she cannot separate a woman’s identity from having a man.

Anytime I talk about improving myself, changing my appearance, or wanting something for myself, she somehow turns it into “well you don’t have a man” or “what’s the point if you’re not interested in men.” Today I mentioned wanting a breast augmentation and instead of talking about confidence, aesthetics, or just personal preference, she immediately said “you don’t care about men or sex so what’s the point?”

It honestly made me snap because it feels so dehumanizing. Like apparently a woman can’t want to feel attractive, feminine, confident, or happy unless it somehow revolves around male attention. It’s like in her worldview women only start “living” once they’re validated by a man.

What frustrates me most is how she genuinely cannot differentiate things. Everything gets filtered through men and relationships. Career, appearance, self esteem, lifestyle choices, all of it.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but the gym situation in this area is actually kind of frustrating.
There are barely any solid mid-range gyms around, and the ones that are here feel either way too expensive or way too low quality.
For example, I’ve got a membership at Fit4Less right now because it’s cheap, but honestly, it feels like a dungeon. It’s dark, cramped, and packed at peak hours, no sauna either. You get what you pay for, but it’s not really motivating to train there consistently.

On the other end, places like GoodLife or boutique gyms are easily 80 to 120 dollars a month once everything is included, which feels insane for a basic gym membership. I used to go to LA Fitness before, and it was honestly perfect, space, equipment, everything, but now there isn’t even one nearby anymore.

Curious if anyone else feels the same or if I’m just picky, because right now it feels like we don’t really have good options anymore unless you’re willing to overpay.

Hey vets/ vet techs

I just removed a small tick from my dog, but I wasn’t able to get the mouthparts out because they’re deeply embedded. I’m really stressed and planning to take him to get tested for Lyme disease in four weeks. Should I be worried about the mouthparts still being stuck?

I just passed my road test today for my drivers license, but I’m a bit confused about something my examiner said after she told me I passed.

During the test, I made a mistake on a right turn at a red light where I didn’t fully come to a complete stop and proceeded when I probably should’ve waited longer and almost cut a car off. I understood it was my mistake.

After the test was over and she told me I passed but not to turn on a light without doing proper mirror and blind spot check, I said something like “it was red too” trying to acknowledge the situation, and she responded very firmly with “for YOU it was red.”

I’m not sure if she thought I was trying to make an excuse or she didn’t understand I was trying acknowledge my mistake by saying that, if she just meant it as a final correction, the way she responded sounded like she didn’t understand what I meant by saying what I said and has been stuck in my head a bit
