Somewhere hidden deep in Germany, there is the Harz steam railway. A daily service between the towns of Werningerode, Nordhausen and Quedlinburg that's partly run by steam locomotives built in the '50s. The 2-10-2 tenderloco's run on narrow gauge (1000mm) and the total length of the network is somewhere around 140km.

In this video steam locomotive 99 7232-4 departs from station 'Steinere Renne' which is on an incline. The engine has to work hard to get the fully packed train moving towards the summit of the Brocken mountain (highest mountain in the region). This is audible and the sound gets echoed back through the mountains. It's a must visit for any train fan in my opinion!
