A masterclass in burying the lede

This dog has been through the NYC shelter system a couple of times so I included both pictures and notes from her previous stay. Run don’t walk to the shelter!

Oh Captain, my Captain

The screenshot is Narvaez’s ex wife, and this is a TikTok she posted after the trade. The comments are full of Red Sox wives celebrating with her.

Opinion: this comm has drifted away from its noble purpose and is too tolerant of dog aggression

Sue Sternberg says that shelters should be where people go to get the best dogs. I’ve always agreed with that view.

Yesterday I reported a post that quite clearly violated this rule. Nothing was done. In fact the OP blocked me and the post began to attract attention from the kind of people who make this comm look terrible: the zealots who think no dog should ever be behaviourally euthanised and all dogs can in fact be saved.

I’ve posted this article before, and I am constantly disappointed at the sheer viciousness of some commenters here who will call shelter staff “murderers” and advocate for criminality to break out dogs in danger of euthanasia.

How does that help anyone? Shelter staff aren’t saints, no human is, but they are tasked with dealing with the repercussions of people failing to spay and neuter and dumping dogs. Resources and space are limited. People don’t always want large dogs, especially when they may not have space or energy for them. The solution is not to browbeat shelter staff and call them murderers, for not wanting to risk their safety handling aggressive dogs. The solution is spending a fraction of that energy writing to your county or whatever local authority to push for spaying and neutering access, and legislation on same. Maybe attacking people who can’t fight back makes you feel more righteous, idk.

In any case, the comment section regarding that dog who was RIGHTLY euthanised and OP disagreed with it? It was pretty disgraceful, and mods should realise, if they care about this comm and its ethos at all, how counterproductive these kinds of posters are to this comm. Do you think a single person is convinced by defending an aggressive dog, or do you think that people become more sceptical of shelter and rescue dogs?

Please help me find my dog a new home, he bit a child through no fault of his own (except a neighbour shows up to tell the truth in the comments)

Shelter tightens rules for dog volunteers after they pushed for policy changes

Read this article…after volunteers at a shelter in Washington State kicked up a huge fuss about finding rescues to pull the two pictured dogs, both with bite histories, the shelter moved to ban all volunteers from access to the dogs with behavioural problems as a result. As Tracy Voss, whose Facebook I saw this linked on said,

“Here's what I'm struggling with: we're in the middle of a nationwide shelter crisis. Healthy, behaviorally sound dogs are already waiting months for homes, and many never find one. So why are so many resources, volunteers, and emotions being focused on dogs with significant behavior issues?”

Indeed.

Tony Vitello jokes that telling Devers he was going to pinch run for him in the ninth made him homer, appreciates a courtesy laugh about his dad quality joke

I disagree with the beat, I thought this was funny

Carlos Narvaez

I wasn’t interested in the fact he cheated on his now ex wife (it’s mlb) until she dropped the info that his new gf was also involved with two of his current teammates on the Red Sox and one on the Yankees 🫪 she also said “I won’t name them for the sake of their wives and children”

Was this why things with him have been so off this year?!

Sure I’ll make my own meaning: “sallow” and other words with a unique meaning in an Irish context

With temperatures ticking up to a toasty 20 degrees, it’s time for my family’s annual discussion of how well each of us takes the sun. I’m a ‘traditional’ blue-grey colour but several members of my family have that skin that takes a colour well.

You know: sallow. Everywhere else in the Anglosphere, it means someone pale or unwell looking. In Ireland, it means you go gold or brown instead of red or pink in the weak sunlight we get.

Like “ignorant” it’s a word that has a different or distorted meaning here in Ireland.

What other words have we created our own meanings for?

Reminder that this franchise’s pitchers weren’t always shitheads

Timmy lent his image to a campaign for AIDS research funding after winning the Cy Young.

Matt Cain and his wife Chelsea publicly opposed proposition 8 the same year he pitched his perfect game.

It helps that they are franchise icons, and winners. But even if they weren’t, choosing to side with the lbgt + community speaks well of them them and even more so now. Roupp and the rest aren’t fit to lace up their cleats.

Take this dog…please

No bingo card because this situation is both appalling but yet so far outside the parameters of the usual pit pushing discussion

Spoilers for the book series for those who have seen 2-6

>!Monica Baddingham, Basil’s sister-in-law, had caused an uproar last year when she had walked out on her vicious venal husband of nearly twenty-five years’ standing and moved in with Dame Edith. Such was Monica’s popularity in the area – she had worked endlessly for charity and been kind to everyone and she seemed so blissfully happy with Dame Edith – that the scandal had blown over. Helen would normally have disapproved violently of such bohemian escapades, but realizing how influential Monica had suddenly become in the music world, she scuttled out to say hallo.!<
