This is something I've had on my mind for a longer while. Many later and perhaps more self-aware (Interbellum - Today) attempts at grandiose, Tartarian-style architecture that tries to chase after glory and one-up past buildings simply fall flat on their face due to that self awareness of what they're trying to replicate.

If you look at old WW2-Era German architecture, for example, and the plans of Germania there is something that to me is strikingly wrong about them. Whilst their style seems nice, the actual proportions and scale are just wrong. It's not human scale whatsoever, it's highly exaggerated and it ends up looking weird and too big for its own good. In another vein, the recent proposed "United States Triumphal Arch" replicates the basic form of great Tartarian architecture, but completely does away with all the finer detail in favour of flat facades that only superficially resemble their inspiration.

Actual Tartarian architecture that's usually posted here, while certainly strongly taking from ancient sources was also contemporary to its time. And I think that's what makes the difference. I am very open to hearing everyone else's thoughts!
