What are you wearing this Tuesday?

Just got done my morning walk, today decided to rock one of my all time favorite vintage numbers in the collection, a Super Seville from Argentina. This watch brings a smile to my face every time I see it as I know before it got to me, it had a well loved and hard worn life. Plus it has so many quirky charms not just from its age and perfectly stretched/broken in bracelet (stretched enough to pull visible some of the hidden rivet construction of the president style links), but it has an aftermarket acrylic replacement domed crystal with internal cyclops clearly aligned for a different model or a more universal replacement part, and a Latin day disk. What are you wearing today?

Finally got in my blue v3 and I have a few thoughts. First, my initial order was lost in the post and to WD’s credit, before I had reached out, they emailed me confirming I had not received the watch (after nearly a month) and offered to immediately send out a replacement free of charge. That is just phenomenal on their part for noting and correcting that issue.

Now onto the watch, the thickness of this version is spot on what I want as is the dial rehault/chapter height depth. It feels very well proportioned and put together. As I’ve come to expect from watch dives, fit and finis is solid especially when it comes to the bracelet which I had zero issues quickly removing 3.5 links (thanks to the nice half link included) to dial in a perfect fit without needing to go to the clasp micro adjusts.

The blue on this watch is exactly what I wanted. It’s a very dark matte blue that can sometimes read as black in some lighting. Feels very intentional like old ink blues used on old watches out of the factory. Where my thorns feel like they are trying to capture a time capsule of the early 60’s, this really does feel like a fresh find from the early 80’s. A bit more modern leaning while still having enough vintage charm. The less yellow cream color lume feels better suited for this style of minimal aging while still giving it a sense of vintage touch. More restrained than previous offerings.

Now to the WDC logo. I like it more in person than I did on the renders and I was a fan of it there. It’s not something to do on every watch, but for this, it feels like it both balances it and doesn’t feel like either a placeholder with just the logo or having the warchdives name which comes across as very modern. This execution makes it visually come across more like other tool watches with similar branding style like cwc and I think it really fits here.

So far, accuracy has been good as well and everything functions fantastically. All in all, quite happy with this and feel it was a solid execution by watch dives.

Just finished a better illustration of my Luchadora ‘La Tigresa Infierna’. A fire genasi ruda Luchadora out to prove herself and maybe get this chip off her shoulder. Had a lot of fun drawing her this time and trying new techniques.

In terms of build, she uses a homebrew (not mine) 5e luchador class that’s effectively just an alternate take on monk with more thematic flavor. Humorously, not even that scary of a build mechanically, it’s just the thematic nature that draws the biggest impact.

She is very much the bored noble tomboy, born in the city of brass to high but boring status. Often would find herself in trouble by virtue of just not wanting to be part of that society and extremely aimless in life. That was when she first encountered the traveling feywilds circus troupes and the wrestling league that was a part of them. She eagerly found a new calling but also found for the first time in her life she was rather challenged. In fact, there were many there that try as she might, proved far too strong for her to handle.

Thus, with that bitter realization that she is far less strong than she thought, she is venturing out into the world, eager to find a way to grow more powerful. (Honestly this has been the most direct and very much power driven character concept I’ve played to date where she just wants to try to be the best for no other reason than she is driven to)

Just finished art of one of my luchadors mentors and rivals, El Dragon Azul. Wanted to practice techniques to speed up art especially that is just for fleshing out character reference. Although, with how he turned out, he might wind up being built as a statted npc. Honestly, I’m really liking the changes to unarmed combat for 2024 rolling in grappling to unarmed strikes and really allowing for a lot of fun synergies. While of course, it won’t be a high mechanically damage outputting build, who wants short matches anyway?

My newest DnD character for a new campaign, La Tigresa Infierna. She is a fire genasai Luchadora Ruda who is a bit of a hot head but brings a fair punch to the group. Born to nobility in the City of Brass but eventually fell in love with traveling fae circus groups that brought wrestling shows across the planes.

Being a bit of a rough tomboy, always spoiling for a fight but finding that a rather tough life outside traveling merchants who would perhaps overstay their hospitality at local taverns. This stage show opened her eyes to a new potential way she could prove her strength and escape the doldrums of life in the city.

However, after years of traveling with the troupe, she found herself stuck. Not able to best some of the old legendary hands despite her best efforts, she wanted to find a way to better herself, to become better than those who she could never beat. That is why she one day decided to leave the troupe after one of their shows on faerun, choosing to take time to find her own way before hopefully coming back stronger than ever.

* The character idea was to find a way to kind of make a luchadora work but I felt that by separating it down to its routes of kind of a performance was the best way to kind of make it work and introduce something exotic without pushing too far against the conventions of the setting. I am excited to see where she goes and how she actually grows.

Art by me, trying to practice getting better but rarely find the time so a lot of experimentation.
