My workshop friend and I had restored a crashed M600 just for the fun of it, but ended up never using it. I also still have the engine from my 900 SuperSport, that runs now on an ST3 engine. "Engine out" is about 2 hours, "engine in frame" about 1 – shimming the swing arm to the casing took some time.
Most older (90s-00s) Ducs have a single piece cover over the front sprocket. The OG Multistrada (and Hypermotard) have a two part cover. The second is screwed to two little nubs, part of the cast footrest-holders.
To reach the front sprocket nut with a socket, you have to remove these holders.
To remove these holders, the sidestand will also come off.
You have to put the bike on a rear stand to loosen the front sprocket.
Also … locking closer, there is probably not enough space (at least with a 525 chain) to get the chain off the sprocket.
Meaning you have to open the chain (and later rivet a new master link) just to change the front sprocket. Darn, I wanted to try that 14 tooth.
Elsewhere, setting ride the ride height on a 916 takes a 19 mm wrench, and taking out the rear shock means loosening the two bolts on it, nothing else.
Why buy expensive ones, when you can get the parts for 10 € from the hardware store?
EDIT: This is for transportation in a van only. The original rear axle is still in place; I just stick the threaded bar through its hollow core.
