So I'm selling my Dreamcast and all 22 games I have for it

No regrets either.

That being said... I lied. I am retaining Shenmue 1 + Shenmue 2. No idea why, but I just cannot part with them. Maybe it's because I have kickstarter Shenmue 3 on my shelf, I want them to rest alongside it.

I will always love my Dreamcast, and I think this would be harder were it the actual original console I had as a kid, but the CD drive broke and what I have is a replacement I got some years later. Nonetheless, I am selling it together with my N64 (another replacement), PS2, GameBoy Advance and Game Gear. I cannot justify holding on to them anymore because I never look at them and technology is so great now that we can emulate the games or simply buy a lot of them ported on steam or whatnot. The £1k+ I am getting from selling them is super useful for my wife and I as we embark on our next journey together with a house purchase. I also can use some of the monies to buy a Switch 2 and to get the Ocarina of Time Remake.

Sayonara, Dreamcast. Love ya and I'll stay subbed here. Count on it.

Have you ever run something over whilst driving?

I’ve been driving for 26 years and have only ever run a creature over once - and it was on my first driving lesson. A pigeon was in the road and didn’t move as I approached him, I thought he would just jump out of the way and I slowly drove over him. RIP.

Social Housing in New Build Estates

I'm currently purchasing a new build and I see a tranche (c. 10%) of the development is designated social housing.

My understanding is that this is usually a requirement for developers as part of the local authority's consent for building.

I would like to know whether councils often look to expand their stock in the same estates in which they already have council housing in? I don't really fancy moving into an estate that in 10 years time will be 50% social tenants, some or most of which will comprise chavs (or the modern equivalent) causing a nuisance with their kids on bikes, littering, noise, violence, theft etc.

I can be seen as snobbish for this query, but I'd be curious to know if there is any data on whether or not local authorities do target the purchase of newer properties for social housing.

/r/TheOfficeUK I'm fed up!

I'm aware of this little meme with SIBMUR and I'm worried it's affecting the quality of the sub.

I'm posting as I want me to post but you aren't all posting as I want you to post.

You know what I used to think about this sub with all the movie and tv references? That they're having a laugh. No not in a good way, I mean mucking about at the expense of quality posts.

So let's agree that the mods agree with me and that it's time for you all to buck up your ideas. Who wants to speculate on Davis Brent's childhood or Timothy's nanna's love life? There's so much analysis to be had if people would just comment but they won't!

If things don't change then reddit admits might have to think about /r/RickyGervais incorporating this sub, not the other way around.

Cheers.

You know we were talking earlier about Jim Bowen weren't we? Yeah, James Brown Whittaker, born 1937 died 2018.

Just interesting that stuff about him being 34 and looking 50.

Am I overreacting by my cousin not inviting my wife to her wedding?

I see my cousin at extended family gatherings once or twice a year. We are a small family (few cousins in total both sides) and have known each other since children (now mid 30s).

Today I got my wedding invite (by email) and my wife was not named. I accepted on the assumption there would be a +1 and that my wife could attend regardless.

I received a text message shortly after by my cousin, who said my wife is not invited and that they are only allowing +1 for some people to keep things small.

I don't wish to go without my wife so I won't, but I can already see this spiralling. My mother and sister have took offence and are now not going also. My wife seems hurt. There is talk about this jeopardising future family meet ups. I'm pretty upset about it and I have taken it very personally.

That being said, I like to hear both sides in any discussion. So am IOR?

Is it justified to be offended by my cousin not inviting my wife to her wedding?

I would be interested in know what people's experiences are with wedding invites.

I like to stay rational, so I want to put this one to the AskUK community. What is your own experience with wedding invites? Has anyone here been in a similar situation and if so how did you respond? Answers on a postcard please.

Edit: thank you for all the replies, genuinely interesting. I've been reflecting and I think the reason it has hurt me so much is because my wife is an immigrant. She has moved across the ocean to be with me and I feel she has been rejected by what should be a new family over here. When we got married we extended our invites to all of that side of my family, but here we are.

Thanks all.

Shenmue 1 Steam Port - Audio Issues

I feel like I'm losing my mind. The footsteps sound horrific in certain places, like Ryo's room. Almost like there is an echo. I recall this being an issue upon release too. My dreamcast version sounds fine by comparison to the steam port.

But on Google nothing shows up about echos and weird footsteps.

Is there a fix?
