Boss cried in front of everybody today

My boss is a school principal. We had a meeting about forging better relationships with students. A student about to go to college tomorrow spoke about his experiences at the school and thanked everybody.

Then, no actual tips or strategies for how to build better relationships with students, only that we really, really should: NBoss got up and started crying, to the point of not speaking sometimes, about knowing what it feels like to be isolated (I mean, I know I avoid him as much as possible these days, since being targeted by him) and so people should realize what kids are going through sometimes. He said he even lived in his truck for a couple of days once (unspoken context: he's said to have had an affair with the school nurse at his old workplace and had to GTFO.)

Anyway, didn't really know what to make of that, don't think I've ever seen a narc cry before so I was super-confused and had to google what form of pity party was going on, right there in the meeting. Wish me luck!

Teacher going back to work tomorrow, looking for ideas

I start back tomorrow and want to eat healthier, but can’t eat gluten so the powdered lunchroom food is out of the equation. I teach in a very rural area, but I am in range to get groceries delivered to the school from Big Box Store +. Have a mini fridge and access to a microwave, but could potentially also bring a rice cooker to use.

Other than boxes of bars, any ideas or particular easy meals that work for you? Thanks!

Horrible ending to show tonight, need to vent

TLDR: A band got a guy roughed up by security because he crowdsurfed one more time during their last song. Then they were maybe going to do an encore, but we all walked out depressed and angry.

Instead of a $15 local benefit show tonight that I maybe should have gone to, I traveled to a downtown festival in Macon, Georgia where there were various country, mariachi, etc. bands playing in different bars, and paid the $60 festival armband price to see the two bands playing at a nightclub called JBA. They were awesome and talented. The first band, SCATTRBRAIN from Atlanta, needs more recognition, check this song out: https://youtu.be/bJGQFUhKZRY?si=VS91kVr8GWXquTQF

But I mainly went to see Girl Tones. They too were amazing, a duo like White Stripes and also crazy talented. There was a circle of punks present, but being a festival there were also older ladies wandering in and the band requested to tone moshing down, or not have it at all, on some songs. It was a fun time, until it wasn't.

Final song, they said go ahead and mosh, but not if the guitarist decided to come down there, and everybody stay off the stage. So far, so good, until a skinny groovy guy who had crowdsurfed earlier did it again, and must have stepped on the stage to do it. The drummer stopped playing, while he was in mid-crowdsurf, pointed a stick at him and said "Get off my fucking stage, sir!" At that point five security guys (either from the venue or festival) plowed through the crowd, pulled him down, twisted him and carried him out, almost knocking me down in the process.

They finished the song and walked off stage without saying anything. Original plan must have been for an encore because I overheard a security guard say "well now everybody's leaving," while another security guard acted apologetically towards a woman yelling at him trying to explain punk culture.

Fuck it, we all walked out. On the bright side, as I started to drive a couple of hours to my stop for the night, I got pretty mad about it, which helped keep me awake until I got there.

Edit: previous version of this post said "F*** JBA," but I'm not sure whether it was club or event security. Subreddit seems to place the blame on the band the most. A reply by some people connected to the venue seems to indicate that it might have been their security after all.

Seeking info on the North Side Cooperative Ministry in Chicago (1968-72)

I read in an article about the 1968 DNC protests in Chicago, that this group served as medics and also 200 pastors were involved in a sit-in in response to police violence. But I can't find a lot of books or records about them.

They seem to have disbanded in 1972. That's the same year that Jesus People USA was founded, so I'm especially interested in any links between those groups (like, did some people in the first group live communally, and then end up living with JPUSA? Or was the first group just an association of pastors?)

Surely someone has written about all this already, with all of the seminaries in Chicago.

Thanks!

Larry Norman - Why Should The Devil (Punk) - [Live + Lyrics]

Starting in the late 70s, Larry Norman went to a lot of punk shows, including seeing The Damned, Richard Hell and the Voidoids, and the Dead Boys at the Roundhouse in London. The reason seems to be that his younger brother was into it; eventually Larry bankrolled a demo for his hardcore band. He was also a patron of the Bay area punk scene, and may have met and recorded with Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols.

Anyway, from that time period, here's his punk version of Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music?

Wonder Woman Master Run/Buying Guide by me

Much like Aquaman, Green Lantern and Flash, which are the characters I have already done, I have decided to do this for a fourth time. This time, I wanted to do Wonder Woman. I should mention I am not fully informed on Wonder Woman comics. So if there are any inconsistencies, anything is missing, or I'm just wrong, please let me know. I'm not perfect, and I'll fix it as soon as possible. I also would love some feedback on how I can improve my method of my master runs moving forward, when I move on to the next character. Thank you for taking time to look at my work.

Got a free Babe Haven ticket for tomorrow

End of their tour, at the Radio Room in Greenville South Carolina. Something came up and I won't be able to go, let me know if you want it. (10/10 recommend if you haven't seen them, it was a great show when I saw them last fall.)

Anybody else's school using flex time as wage theft?

Background: our school system used to pay people for working ball games (not coaches, as we have a separate contract supplement, but ticket-takers, etc.) Recently they implemented flex time, where instead of being paid in $$$ teachers can substitute time working after school (games, chaperoning dances, etc.) for some of the post-planning days.

But the amount of days allotted for flex time is far exceeded by the number of hours we are asked to work. Meeting an hour after school? Just log it as your flex time. Graduation practice after all the flex time's already been turned in for the year? Flex time! Summer planning day? Flex time!

Is this becoming a widespread thing, or is it just a local problem (no, we are not a union state.)
