“Don’t tell people in your dreams that you’re dreaming”

I’ve heard this a lot in the lucid dreaming community. People say that if you tell the people in your dreams that it’s a dream, they will become aggressive and things will go bad in the dream. I do this all of the time and I’ve never had a problem with it. I tell people in my dreams all the time that it’s a dream and they are always just like “oh ok” I’ve never had a negative experience doing this. It made me wonder if there’s a reason why I don’t have any issues when doing this but a lot of other lucid dreamers do. Does anyone else have this experience?

Does anyone else not like talking about your stutter?

It just makes me feel really exposed and vulnerable. I’ve only really talked about my stutter to close friends and even that is hard for me. That’s why whenever people talk about disclosing your stutter to new people you meet it sounds like a humiliation ritual to me, I don’t think I could ever be able to do that. I know that people obviously notice my stutter but no one ever mentions it to me, but I kind of wish they would ask me about it or something because it would take the pressure off me to talk about it.

How I perceive Kleypas couples

This is based off the books I’ve read so far.

Annabelle and Simon Hunt - definitely a power couple. They are both strong willed and know what they want. Simon is so competent and mature I love him🥵

Evie and Sebastian - they are by far the kinkiest couple. I can’t exactly explain why, I just get those vibes from them. They both definitely have some wild secret fantasies and desires and do the freakiest shit in bed.

Kathleen and Devon Ravenel - Kathleen definitely wears the pants in the family, and Devon is all for it. He loves her feistiness.

Rhys Winterborne and Helen Ravenel - Rhys represents the purest form of masculinity and Helen represents purest form of femininity. Rhys is strong, protective, and ambitious. Helen is soft and delicate at her core. It gives them insane chemistry.

Tom Severin and Cassandra Ravenel - I like Tom. He is sweet and definitely the least Rapey out of all of the other mmcs. Cassandra comes across as a bit bratty and spoiled. Tom comes across as a little spoiled too. He gets everything he wants in life, and he also gets the most beautiful girl in town. I know Rhys is equally as spoiled, but it annoys me more with Tom for some reason😂 I did enjoy them, but I kind of think Tom could have worked better for a different fmc.

I know I’m going a little out of order with her books, but I do plan to read all of them are some point. I’ll keep you guys posted on my options.

When I’m excited to say something and people just give a “um ok” kind of response

I don’t understand why this happens to me so much. It happens with both family and other people I know. I’ll say something that seems like a completely normal thing to say and it appears to contribute to the conversation, and they will just kind of give me a blank stare and give an extremely short response or just look at me and not say anything at all, even when they are being perfectly friendly to everyone else.

For example, I’ll be at a family gathering and the table will be discussing a new study that came out, and I’ll say “oh yeah I learned about this in one of my classes. We learned that…etc etc” and then the whole family will just stare at me and not respond or give a very cold response and continue to talk to each other. Like what?😭 what I said seemed completely normal and on topic. I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. And then my family complains that I’m too shy and don’t talk enough🙄

Did teenagers used to have so much acne?

It seems like whenever I see old photos of teenagers, I hardly ever see acne on them, but it’s extremely common for teenagers now to have acne. Was it less common or just less photographed?

People who grill me about ordering the same thing every time at a restaurant

At most restaurants in my city, I have specific orders that are my favorite and that I know I’ll like. If I try something new, there’s a very high chance I will regret my order. It’s rare that I actually really like a new dish. In fact, usually the reason why I go to a restaurant is to get a specific dish because I like it so much. I’m not against trying new things, but I’m not spending 20 dollars on a meal when there’s an extremely high chance that I won’t like it that much. I’ll experiment with new dishes when cooking at home or sampling, not with expensive meals.

What if even after you die, there can never really be an “end” wether you believe in afterlife or not

I had a strange thought about death and consciousness. We often say, “When I die, I’ll experience nothing forever.” But if “nothing” truly means the absence of consciousness, then there wouldn’t actually be a “me” there to experience that nothingness. People don’t have their own personal nothingness after they die. So in a sense, nothingness isn’t something that happens to you. There is no “you” left for it to happen to.

That made me wonder about the fact that I’m conscious at all. Before I was born, there was no experience happening from my perspective. Then, somehow, I came into existence and suddenly there was a first person experience. Why this organism? Why this perspective? Nobody really knows. But if consciousness can appear once, why assume that the end of this particular consciousness is somehow fundamentally different from the beginning of another? Why would the end of me mean the end of existence forever?

Imagine someone dying 100 years ago, thinking, “After I die, there will never be any experience again.” They were right that their experience would end, but they weren't right that experience itself would end, because I exist now. And from the perspective of the person who died, there is no subjective difference between “nothing happening” and “someone else existing” because neither is experienced by them. People don’t get their own personal “nothingness” after they die. I am no more connected to that person who died than nothingness is connected to that person who died.

I’m not saying this proves an afterlife or even the existence of a soul. I’m saying if there is no “you” to experience your own nonexistence, then what exactly does it mean to say that you will experience nothing forever? Something obviously exists now, which is me. So people who have previously died and thought “there will be nothing forever” were wrong, because I am experiencing and existing, so “there is” not nothing. If I exist now, who’s to say that after I die that will really be the end? Can’t something else just spontaneously exist and come into consciousness just like I did? I hope I’m articulating this in a way that makes sense.

I hate that no matter how hard I mask people always see me as weird and can tell I’m ND

So many people have told me that I seem very autistic, that I’m “weird in a good way”, or that I’m just weird. People can clearly tell that I’m different within a few days of knowing me. Even when I’m saying things that are completely normal people can somehow still tell that I seem off. I also have a stutter which I feel makes it harder to appear normal “normal” but I feel like it’s more than just that because people often tell I seem neurodivergent. I don’t understand what makes it so obvious because I feel like I read the room and pick up on social cues pretty well.

When men say “women can get any guy they want and get hit on every time they go outside”

The men who says this usually say it because they think that men have it so much harder when finding love and women can supposedly get any guy they want. I don’t know what world they are living in, but no woman I know gets hit on all the time and has every guy begging for her. In fact it’s often pretty hard for women to find someone, even attractive women. I don’t know any woman who get hit on everywhere they go unless they go to night clubs all the time, and even then they don’t get hit on that often unless they’re super attractive.

I kind of feel like the men who say this either mean that women could in theory find some desperate creep to have a one night stand with, but that is not at all what women want and men could probably also in theory find some desperate creepy woman to sleep with. I feel like what they also sometimes mean is “women who look like super models get hit all the time and I don’t even consider the experience of other women because I don’t view women who I don’t find attractive as human”

Thing that happened at the preschool I work at

I went to sit at one of the lunch tables during the children’s lunch time, and one of the kids said to me “I don’t want you to sit here, I want teacher Emily to sit here because Emily talks better than you”😔

Finding out everyone hates the thing that you love

Sometimes I’ll read a book, try a new food, or watch a new movie and I absolutely love it and when I ask people about it or look up online what other people think about it I find out everyone hates it and thinks it sucks😞

People who take half an hour in the bathroom because they got distracted on their phone

It’s already annoying when people take super long in the bathroom because they’re shitting, but I can understand that they’re probably constipated or something. But I’ve known people who will take half an hour or longer in the bathroom because they got distracted scrolling on their phone on the toilet, when they were done with their business. I’m sitting here waiting while you’re just giggling at reels.

Rec for sweet caring mmc and distressed shy fmc

I want a book where the mmc just wants to protect and care for and comfort shy/anxious/distressed/sick fmc. I don’t like the miscommunication trope. Also I want most of the book to be about them being together, not the kind of book where for almost the entire book they think that they can’t be together for some reason and only end up together at the very end. I just want to squeal and kick my feet at a delicious protective comforting sweet loving hero.

Keep finishing Lisa Kleypas books feeling disappointed

I just got into historical romance and I have been staring out with Kleypas. I am starting out with the Ravenels. So far I have read Cold Hearted Rake, Marrying Winterborne, and Chasing Cassandra. I honestly have very much enjoyed these books. I especially loved Chasing Cassandra and how sweet Tom Severin was. I think she does a good job of writing good chemistry, world building, and keeping readers engaged.

The thing is, when I get to the end of these books, I always feel like there’s something missing. I feel like a lot of stuff gets left unresolved, and I always expect more by the end. Her books do have happy endings, so I can’t really put my finger on why I’m so dissatisfied at the end. I only recently started reading more books, so could someone who’s more experienced with reading romance help me identify what exactly is so disappointing about her endings?

People who always talk about how much they hate everything

It seems like some people just make conversation by complaining. “Omg don’t you just haaaate being at university??” “Don’t you just despise this movie?” “Don’t you haaate this restaurant?” No, no I actually don’t. It’s exhausting to hang out with people like this because it’s like if you’re never having a good time and you hate everything why do you keep wanting to do stuff together? I’ll be excited to do something or go somewhere and all they can talk about is how much they hate it and how awful it is.

I understand social cues, I just am not capable of acting “normal”

I feel like I understand social cues perfectly well, in fact, better than a lot of people. I can very easily pic up on subtle facial expressions and body language that tell me when a person is annoyed, happy, angry, etc. I’m extremely aware of unwritten social dynamics. Even though I understand this perfectly, I feel like most people can still tell that I’m neurodivergent and I act pretty awkward. It’s not that I don’t understand how to act, because I understand perfectly what characteristics make a person socially desirable, it’s just that I’m physically incapable of acting that way. Does anyone else feel this way?

When people turn to look at you when something related to you is mentioned

I wasn’t sure how to phrase this, but I’ll try to explain it. An example of this is when the class starts talking about slavery, and people turn to look at the black person in the class. A personal example is that I was watching a movie with people and one character had a stutter, I also have a stutter, so everyone turned to look at me when that character came on. I can’t think of any other examples right now, but I’m sure you get the gist.

Is millions of people suffering any more tragic than one person suffering?

I was recently thinking about this. I think most people, myself included, feel a deep sense of sadness when we hear about a whole group of people going through a tragic event, such as genocide and pandemics. I then started to think “even if millions of people are suffering, each one of those people only views the world from their perspective. Nobody experiences being multiple different people. The only experience of suffering that will ever exist for people, is the experience of only themselves suffering. If it’s one person suffering, or 10 million people suffering, it will only ever be experienced from one person” I hope what I’m saying makes sense. What is the philosophical perspective on this?
