How can I become really good at the natural sciences? Where should I start?

I’m interested in becoming genuinely knowledgeable in the natural sciences—not just learning random facts, but actually developing a strong understanding of biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, astronomy, etc.
For those of you who have studied science extensively:
What are the most practical and effective ways to become really good at the natural sciences?
In particular, I’d love advice on:
Where should I start if I want to build a solid foundation?
What subjects should I learn first, and in what order?
How important are mathematics and programming?
Which textbooks, online courses, websites, or other resources would you recommend?
How much should I focus on exercises and problem-solving versus reading/watching lectures?
What are the best ways to develop actual scientific thinking rather than simply memorizing information?
If you had to start over and teach yourself the sciences from scratch, what would you do differently?
I’m looking for practical advice and a realistic path, especially from people who have gone through this themselves.
Thanks!

Does piracetam increase glutamate?

I'm considering trying piracetam, but I'm concerned about its effects on the glutamatergic system.

From what I've read, piracetam interacts with AMPA receptors and can modulate glutamatergic neurotransmission. My concern is whether this could actually increase glutamate activity or glutamate levels and potentially make things worse if someone is sensitive to glutamate/excitatory neurotransmission.

For those who have taken piracetam:

  • Did you notice any increase in excitability, anxiety, restlessness, or feeling "wired"?
  • Does piracetam actually increase glutamate, or does it mainly modulate glutamate signaling?
  • Did anyone with sensitivity to glutamatergic effects find piracetam helpful or detrimental?
  • Does the effect persist after stopping, or does it go away?

I'd particularly appreciate answers based on personal experience and any scientific/pharmacological information you can provide.

What’s the best budget-friendly routine for hyperpigmentation?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for advice on treating hyperpigmentation, but I’m on a fairly tight budget, so I’d like to keep the number of products to a minimum.

If you had to choose only a few products, which ones would you consider the most effective for the money? What would you actually buy?

I’m particularly wondering whether I could get good results with something like:

  • Vitamin A / a retinoid
  • Azelaic acid
  • Tretinoin
  • Sunscreen

Would azelaic acid + a retinoid/tretinoin + sunscreen be enough, or am I missing something important?

I’m mainly interested in products that are actually worth the money, rather than having a complicated 6–10 product routine.

I’d really appreciate recommendations from people who have personally dealt with hyperpigmentation and have seen noticeable results. Thanks!

What supplements or strategies help reduce bupropion overstimulation?

I've been taking bupropion, and while it helps in some ways, it also makes me feel too alert and overstimulated. It's not exactly anxiety—more like my brain is "on" all the time, with excessive wakefulness and mental activation and I feel like I have a glutamate peak (a dopamine peak) where I feel my veins or bones rigid and like something was about to get out of my veins.

I'm not asking for prescription recommendations or medical advice, but I'm curious about supplements or lifestyle strategies that others have found helpful.

Things I've been wondering about:

  • Lithium (low-dose / lithium orotate): I once tried lithium (under medical supervision in the past), and I remember it significantly reduced this excessive stimulation. Has anyone had a similar experience?
  • N-acetylcysteine (NAC): Has it helped anyone reduce bupropion-induced overstimulation or excessive glutamate activity?
  • Any other supplements that helped calm the excessive alertness without making you feel sedated? (e.g., magnesium, glycine, taurine, L-theanine, inositol, etc.)

I'd especially appreciate hearing from people who experienced this specifically with bupropion rather than general anxiety.

What worked for you, what didn't, and why do you think it helped?

Help raise awareness for Istriot (TL), one of Europe's most endangered Romance languages!

Hi everyone! One page on instagram is dedicated to promoting and preserving regional Romance languages, and it has launched a petition (TL) encouraging Duolingo to consider creating an Istriot course. While we understand this may not happen immediately, the main goal is to raise awareness about a unique Romance language that is at serious risk of disappearing (it has less than 400 speakers). If you believe endangered languages deserve more visibility and support, we'd be grateful if you could sign or share the petition. Every signature helps bring attention to this important cause. They did it with other minority languages like Breton so I think they may do it with Istriot as well.

Seeking comprehensive grammar resources for Istriot (TL), one of the rarest Romance languages

Hello everyone,

I am looking for serious and comprehensive resources to learn the grammar of Istriot (TL), the endangered Romance language traditionally spoken in a few towns of southwestern Istria.

As someone interested in Romance linguistics and minority languages, I would like to study Istriot in depth and, if possible, contribute in a small way to its preservation and documentation. Unfortunately, I have found that information about the language is quite scarce, and many references lead to works that are difficult to access.

I am especially interested in:

  • Grammars (modern or historical)
  • Academic books and monographs
  • Journal articles and dissertations
  • PDFs or digitized publications
  • Phonology, morphology, and syntax
  • Verb conjugation paradigms
  • Orthographic conventions and writing standards

I have already encountered references to scholars such as Antonio Ive, Mirko Deanović, Pavao Tekavčić, and Domenico Cernecca, but I am still searching for the most useful resources for actually learning how the language works and how to write it correctly.

Because Istriot is such a rare language, I thought this community might know of resources that are difficult to find through ordinary searches, including university repositories, digital libraries, local cultural institutions, or lesser-known publications.

Any recommendations, bibliographies, PDFs, or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for helping support the study of one of Europe's lesser-known Romance languages.

Who can upload this book in Pdf to read it? Please.

Hello everyone,

I hope you are all doing well.

I am currently looking for a copy of "Lingva Latina per se illustrata – Pars I: Glossarivm" by Hans H. Ørberg (the glossary companion to Familia Romana). I have been studying Latin through the Lingua Latina per se Illustrata method and recently discovered that this glossary can be a very useful resource for understanding vocabulary and following the course more effectively. Unfortunately, it seems to be rather difficult for me to buy now.

I would be very grateful if someone in this community owns this book and could let me know if you can send it to me for free.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance. Any help or guidance would be sincerely appreciated.

Best wishes,
A fellow Latin student

Sed “Īdūs Mārtiae” diēs est quīntus decimus mēnsis Mārtiī

I took this from Lingua Latina per se illustrata Familia romana page 97 second edition. Why is there an "est" is it diēs the one that's doing the action "esse" or is it Īdūs Mārtiae? Īdūs Mārtiae must be in plural so I guess it's diēs the one that's doing the action in the sentence. So how would I translate it? "But the march ides the day is the fifteenth day of march? My other guess is this one in a literal sense "But the fifteenth day of march are (is) the march ides", but that would mean that the very predicate of the sentence was put at the beginning of the sentence next to "sed" (but).

Why is there a dative next to an ablative here?

Diēī prīmō mēnsis Iūliī “Kalendae Iūliae” nōmen est

I don't understand why Diēī prīmō are together, I mean, I guess this is a dative possessive situation but why then an ablative? Does this mean then "To the first day of the July month is the name 'July Kalends'; that is the middle day of the year"? this sounds stupid to me.
