I just finished watching the Slipper and the Rose and I tried looking for the soundtrack of the movie but I can’t seem to find it anywhere on Apple Music or Spotify. Does anyone know where I can find the soundtrack to the movie? It’s so good!
A bit ago I made a thread about Elliot because they’re so good but I never hear anyone talk about them. That said, another band I really LOVE is Finch and the same applies here. Every emo person I’ve encountered has never heard of them! But their album What it is to burn is incredible and I’ll go as far to say Nate’s vocals are INSANE and the fact that his voice is still strong is just crazy to me. They also released a new album I think and the song back to oblivion is pretty fire. Do you guys love Finch? And do you guys have any songs from them that are your favorites?
So The Human Condition (No Greater Love) I am hearing that is the best film and trilogy one has ever seen. Is there a movie you guys think is better? Or at least one that you liked more? For example, I hear some say YiYi (2000) was better or that Harakiri they liked it. I personally think it was incredible but War and Peace 1965 was to me a fantastic movie. Ofc it’s hard to compare these films and I don’t think it’s possible to label one as objectively better but I’d love to know which movies you thought were “better” from your subjective experience and maybe some objective points in a film that you liked more like cinematography or other things!
In addition, what film do you think has the best cinematography? Many say Barry Lyndon which I understand.
Does anyone here listen to Elliot? I never hear anyone talk about this band and when I found them by accident some time ago I thought they were incredible. I mean their entire album False Cathedrals was phenomenal but yet now a days I don’t really know anyone who listens to them. Maybe it was a GenX kinda band?
Do you guys have any favorite songs from them that you’d recommend outside of their False Cathedrals album?
I really loved: Calm Americans, Calvary song, Drive onto me, and Blessed by your own ghost.
So I was at a Publix and heard this song playing and I fell in love with it. I shazamed it and it was called “Joey” since then I’ve been trying to find more songs from concrete blonde that I would love and I found another called “Someday” which I thought was great. I wanted to ask if anyone might know any other great songs from Concrete blonde similar to these or songs in general similar to these?
What do you guys consider a cinephile? Many people here seem to watch more than 350+ movies a year and to me that’s really hard to do considering the time it will take. However, I love movies especially musicals and I would always sit down with my girlfriend to watch a movie almost every night ranging from Sharknado or the Meg 2 to War and Peace (1965 and 1956) and On Gaurd
1997, We do love classical musicals and classic movies like only Angels have wings or Rear Window and we also watch things like The Human Condition, YiYi, The Canes are flying but ofc average movies like Disney, Barbie, Batman animated movies, The Mummy, Club dread, Eurotrip etc, point is the range is just really large. But I think the range tends to stop at mostly experimental films like Dead Man’s Letters where it does start to show some avant-garde and especially when we get to films like La Flor, Out 1, Heimat we havnt seen those and it’s not something we’ll really sit through. I might try it cause I always try to be open minded and respect the work that’s put in but I do tend to lose my interest a little. Most I’ve seen was Napoleon 1927 and Shoah that were pretty long and that’s already pushing it. Movies like 964 Pinocchio just feel like I’m forcing myself to watch it jsut to see what it’s like to be a cinephile but I think we just loves movies but not sure if that makes us a cinephile? Silent films aren’t really my thing either but there are good ones.
Other movies that are considered niche for me cause I don’t really hear anyone I know talking about them are; Valley of the Gwangi, The Bronx Warriors, Quo Vadis, Toy Soldiers, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, The Clan of the cave Bear, The Slipper and the Rose, Island of Love, Prince of Darkness, Phantom of the Paradise, Princess Tam Tam, Birth of a Nation, Gettysburg (which was really long), Gods and Generals, and Heart of Darkness: A filmmakers Apocalypse. I do love me some Nicolas cage weird movies too lol. I just always try to be open to watching films that I feel like I’ll love and really bring me into the world rather than looking at films from a objective POV and how it was filmed what technique they’re using, and how this film is trying to send a message with its experiments, etc.
I also have seen disturbing films like Serbian film and I consider those to be on an other level than just horror.
So, I really wonder am I just a movie buff rather than a cinephile because I don’t watch experimental films? I took a film class as a fun elective and that was it. A lot of the people in the class started talking about things like blaxploitation movies and I had no idea what they were but I did watch the movie Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song 1971. I also like classic TV like Have Gun Will Travel and the Dick Van Dyke Show.
I hope this thread gives a little of my familiarity with cinema and movies and where I currently stand. I am only 23 years old so I’m sure I’m just scratching the surface but again I do wonder would I be conserved just an above average movie watcher or movie buff rather than calling myself a cinephile? Or what makes a cinephile?
Ok first things first. I use to think the films The Human Condition (No Greater Love), War and Peace (1965), and YiYi (2000) were pretty niche films but apparently not which got me looking deeper.
Before I move on out of those 3 that I previously listed how would you rank them? I loved all of them but I would say 1. The Human Condition 2. War and Peace and 3. YiYi but I’d love to know what you think and how’d you’d list them and give details why!
Now, I also wanted to ask as a fun follow along what are 5 REALLY niche but GOOD/GREAT films that you gate-keep or know that not many people know of them. For my 5 I would say:
Harakiri
The Traveling Players
Marketa Lazarová
The Saragossa Manuscript
Dead Man’s Letters
I also love musicals and one niche one I can think of is The Young Girls of Rochefort
But l really look forward to hearing from anyone and I’m always looking to expand what I know!
Can someone explain to me the whole Peter Sotos situation? His book Total Abuse is very disturbing to read and he writes as he enjoys the crimes. Are these true crimes that he was writing about? If so why does he write like he’s one of them? Is it a style of writing he’s using to evoke disturbance or shock for the reader? Does he tell true crimes from the perspective of evil?
Also was total abuse the more disturbing book he wrote? And aside from the shock value he brings the books just seem to be explaining crime case instead of a book like Blood Meridian.
Why did I just find out there was a 2003 music man remake with Glinda and Ferris Buller?

I’m looking at the comments of people saying that it’s was better than the original or just as good but after watching it I think it’s NO WHERE NEAR as good as the original and the songs aren’t as good either. The original in my opinion was just top tier and some are saying this one had better cinematography… I don’t think it matches at all with how good the technicolor looked but I’d love to know what you guys think of this version. It was fine but for me it’s not better than the original and not close (I say that with respect).
Hi guys! I want to pick a movie night and I’m having trouble picking a musical I haven’t watched. I’m looking for one that has great/catchy music and it’s in the older era but also niche. Something like “Anne Get Your Gun” or “Ziegfeld follies” or if you know anyone’s that are even more niche and great movie watches please let me know!
I was making this list “The Happiest Millionaire”, “The Unsinkable Molly Brown”, “State fair”, The Slipper and the Rose”, “Half a Sixpence”.
But I really want to see a musical that WOWS Me with the story and music! So please share any recommendations :)
There’s a song that’s playing at 21:25
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9gzo7c
And I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Can anyone please help? Shazam can’t even seem to find it
In season 1 episode 2 when he said “welcome back” to the cat, what song was playing? It also played in the beginning when he made the dried tuna
Does anyone have access to this paper?
I often hear that Butchers Crossing is more disturbing than Blood Meridian. However, I think blood Meridian is more disturbing and brutal. But I’d love to know what you all think which you find to be more disturbing and why?
I’ve been in love with community since it came out and I also have been a huge fan of Chevy as I loved the vacation movies. Apparently I am just finding out now that so many people hate Pierce and I’m curious to know why? I thought his character was hilarious.
When it comes to the song “My Man” Lea kills it but Barbra is still considered the best. However, Rachel Zegler pretty much kills it every song she sings:

I’d love to know which ones are your favorite? For me it’s 1. Barbra 2. Lea and then 3. Zegler but her version was no joke. I’d love to hear what you guys think of Zegler version too!
So burlesque has this version of Diamonds are a girls best friend that sounds incredible:

And I was wondering if anyone knows any version of this song that sounds similar to this? The only other one I found was from Megan Hilty:

But please share similar ones if you know any!
Ok so I made a post the other saying axial fatigue doesn’t exist and ever since then I’ve gotten some interesting discussion replies and the topic itself has been very interesting to me (I felt fatigued from replying to so many people I would reword a lot of my answers) so I kinda wanted to share what I found. It seems that starting strength people tend not to know much about the term in their forum:
And on Facebook barbell medicine also doesn’t seem to agree with the term “axial” fatigue and mentioned that they can squat heavy for a lot and feel fine:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/BarbellMedicineGroup/posts/3651645265080046/
The way many people use it seems to be like how Dr. Mike describes it and ACE Fitness I think broke it down pretty well and cited a paper:
“The final form of fatigue may not occur with all clients. However, it is worth considering for those clients that are performing a large amount of heavy lifting. Axial fatigue is caused by the vertical loading of the spine and limits force production throughout the body to protect the spine from damage. For example, it will limit the force output of the legs during a squat or the arms during an overhead press. This type of fatigue is poorly understood but can be observed in training regimes with a high volume of exercises that load the axial skeleton. Axial fatigue may be caused, at least in part, by the spinal erector muscles being particularly sensitive to changes in length and force detected by the Golgi tendon organs and muscle spindles. This leads to an inhibitory feedback mechanism within the spinal cord that limits force production throughout the body.”
I think the tricky part is to define what “fatigue” is. When people say they feel fried for days is that really “fatigue” per se or more of a recovery problem in general? Is that fry all due to the spine being compressed and does that create a fatigue that last several days? Maybe it’s more of a connective tissue problem rather than an actual CNS problem? Some say it’s just a perceptive effort thing that the exercise just feels harder in general when loading axial but that doesn’t really result in an objective decrease in force or recovery.
I hope this is a little more detailed and sounds more open to discussion. When looking at recovery the thing that really impacts recovery is the overall volume of work (i.e. volume load) and people could be using the term “axial” to describe that workload because they do a lot of squats but its not the axial loading it’s just the overall workload they’re doing that’s resulting in poor recovery if that makes sense?
Where did this term come from? This idea that axial fatigue is a main contributor to CNS fatigue seems silly to me. What is axial fatigue even suppose to describe? Isn’t it just CNS fatigue in general? The idea that loading the spine causes more CNS fatigue doesn’t generally seem to be the case. For example, doing leg extensions for higher reps cause more CNS fatigue and delay recovery for longer than squatting heavy. I don’t think CNS fatigue is dictated by the load on the spine, just load in general, and load is just one factor of what can influence CNS fatigue right?
