On Site handling

Athletic trainers are the ones who handle on site injured during sport competitions and stuff and I wanted to ask do you guys have like your own “model” on how to handle these situations? For example, lay them down, grab ice, and wait for the ambulance to arrive if needed? Or let’s say if someone hurts their shoulder do you start doing shoulder special tests or orthopedic special tests to see what they injured?

1970’s Movie Party

You get invited to a 1970s movie party. I would love to hear your Niche movie costume.

I’d love to hear some niche movie costumes that are elite :)

There are two scenarios:

  1. 1970s movie costume party with people who aren’t cinephiles and more so everyday people. So, in this case “niche” might not actually be niche for cinephiles.
  2. 1970s movie costume party with cinephiles. So, now you gotta go deeper to pull something that’s actually niche.

Let’s hear them!

Chris Beardsley Graph

I think the infograph attempted to simplify the findings too much. The spinal effects can be relatively local if there is a reflex inhibition or suppression at the spinal level of the nerve root for the quadriceps and hamstrings (so just at the lumber vertebrae area). So that explanation may provide a partial mechanism. But there is rarely only one mechanism to explain such a complex thing like our body's physiology.

I feel like Chris ignores the discussion sections because they discuss other mechanisms:

...two other potential mechanisms may explain the findings of this
study. Firstly, it is plausible that various metabolites including potassium, hydrogen, lactate, and heat shock proteins are dispersed to non-exercised muscles through the cardiovascular system during and after fatiguing
protocols (Halperin et al. 2015), potentially impairing their contractile capacity (Henneman et al.
1965). Secondly, it is possible that certain
fatiguing protocols result in heightened activation of stabilizer muscles,
which in turn impairs their ability to stabilize
the non-exercised
muscle
groups (Halperin et al. 2015; Baker and Davies 2009) contributing to muscle force reductions.
Fatigue interventions of longer duration have also been demonstrated to impact the psychological aspect, specifically resulting in a mental energy deficit when experiencing discomfort. This can lead to mental fatigue, which is characterized by reduced focus and concentration, subsequently affecting neuromuscular activation in both fatigued and non-exercised muscles (Halperin et al. 2015). Steele (2020) emphasizes the "perception of effort" which is defined as the individual's perception of the required effort to accomplish a specific task or set of tasks, determined by comparing the current task demands to the perceived capacity to meet those demands.”

As always, I think this infograph may be too simplistic as it also did not consider the instantaneous strength which is a more sensitive measure.

Train Muscles Not Movements

So I saw this video from Tom Purvis:

https://youtu.be/GZB0-uKaR78?is=UExvfDEByTINn-zF

And I largely agree with what he says. However, I think there’s a bit of nuance. While I do agree we should train muscles rather than movements. I think it’s important to also train muscles in certain movements. For example, based on this work:

https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sciencedirect.com%2Fscience%2Farticle%2Fpii%2FS2950273X25000062&data=05%7C02%7Cjds23o%40fsu.edu%7C6b3ba0f995fc40d8832e08de5f085c15%7Ca36450ebdb0642a78d1b026719f701e3%7C0%7C0%7C639052686708275990%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=nfzm5flFe0JmjiLlc1CYwjw8bqhqxh3wMw3R7c0tw3s%3D&reserved=0

Where they observed improvements in hip abductor strength over time; however, these changes did not consistently translate to alterations in running biomechanics under fatigue at a group level. This suggests that increases in proximal muscle capacity alone do not automatically result in changes in movement strategy. From that perspective, exercises such as loaded carries or split squats may be more effective for developing proximal stability, as they integrate trunk control, load transfer, and coordination in a task-relevant manner. In contrast, isolated adductor strengthening (e.g., machine-based) may increase force capacity but is less likely to generalise to functional movement unless integrated into coordinated, whole-body tasks.

What do you guys think?

Melody of War

I’m sure a lot of you have heard of EPIC “The Musical” and I think it’s a cool and fun concepts. I’m not the biggest fan but it does have some solid songs and I don’t mind listening to it. But this new one came out called Melody of War and everyone is loving it:

https://youtu.be/-t0YKhGkISU?is=kSydyhRdYdRl2Iid

https://youtu.be/pUiJB0xk-Iw?is=AQHD39eDyTkWqYaM

It’s brand new and I don’t mean to be rude but it honestly sucks like it just sounds bland for every character, lacks flavor, looks and sounds AI generated (even though it’s not), and some other things I can’t explain. Are you guys a fan of this and am I just a hater? I thought some experts here might be able to pin point some issues with it that it’s lacking or maybe you guys like it.

Let me know!

Mame musical

I love Robert Preston and I came across a song called “Mame” from the musical “Mame” and I saw that it was a movie from 1974. I was really excited because I love movies with Robert in them, but I am seeing people say the movie was horrible and that there’s another movie called auntie Mame that’s much better. Should I still watch the 1974 one? I have no idea what the play is about I would just be happy seeing Robert sing.

On a side note. Is the musical itself good? Does Auntie Mame portray the musical accurately?

Man of La Mancha

So I just found out that Richard Kiley was the original singer for the song “The Impossible Dream” and I never knew this was from a musical. I know I’ve heard that song as a kid but hearing it again Richard as always KILLS it!

I found that there was a movie of the Broadway show but this version sounds no where near as good as Richard’s:

Is the movie worth watching? Is it accurate to the story at all?

Punisher In Brand New Day

After watching Brand New Day

SPOILERS AHEAD!

We see Frank get emotional with Spider-Man and even cry a little. From what I remember watching the series on Netflix when it first came out, am I the only one who felt that reaction was a bit too sensitive for punisher to have? I’m not entirely sure how emotional he gets in the comics nor do I remember if he gets that emotional in the series but he always comes off as a man with near no emotions and doesn’t regret anything. Kinda line how Ghost rider gave him the penance stare and it didn’t didn’t anything because punisher never regretted anything.

Best cinematography 2026

So since the Odyssey came out it looks spectacular, considering it was shot on actual film (IMAX film). I don’t know how to describe it but it just looked so real that it felt so real. There’s no doubt it had immaculate cinematography. HOWEVER, we can’t just forget the AMAZING cinematography that Wuthering Heights had and that’s where I’m left lost. Both films looked incredible and I’m having a really hard time seeing which one can win best Oscar for best Cinematography. I feel like both are just so different and Wuthering heights uses more color and other things that bring us into the world and emotion but The Odyssey felt more grounded but shot those scenes really surreal.

What do you guys think? I think it’s a very close call and I personally can’t seem to choose if I had to pick one cause both are great in their own way. For the Oscar’s I wouldn’t be upset if either win but it’s a really close call for me. I feel like Nolan might get the win cause he’s Nolan but it’s very very close at least.

Mahabharata 1989

Has anyone seen Peter Brook's 1989 film adaptation of The Mahabharata? I hear it’s the biggest and probably the best epic story ever told and I’m curious on how good the movie is. There’s also the 1965 version by Babubhai Mistry. So I’m curious which one is the better version and if either are any good?

Also should Christopher Nolan direct The Mahabharata after doing the Odyssey?

Odyssey Soundtrack

After watching the Odyssey I was a bit disappointed. Definitely not Nolan’s best film. That said, what I was really disappointed was the lack of soundtrack theme. In Oppenheimer you can hear the theme playing throughout constantly throughout the movie and I think soundtrack is such an important part of a film or it can really enhance emotion. The sound track for the Odyssey was phenomenal but really underplayed. By soundtrack I mean theme. I just want to make this post to appreciate the beautiful musical theme the Odyssey had. In the second trailer we can hear this incredible song:

https://youtu.be/pFJKcVMeCNA?is=q1pbILD25ShvPA-Y

And in the movie the song “Another name” played:

https://open.spotify.com/track/0KebKJIyG9EzIaAldHPaRM?si=m1HJgN1LTQ6lbXQ3QhdRTA&utm\_source=copy-link

Which was phenomenal hearing it and I just wish I heard it more throughout the film that’s all.

Greek Movies

With the Odyssey coming out I wanted to ask if there are any great Greek Mythology movies that are really good but aren’t really known? I’ve already seen: O Brother, where art thou?, 300, Alexander, Troy, and Gladiator but I wanted to know if there are any more that anyone could recommend that are REALLY good? I don’t mind old movies either.

I’ve also heard of movies like The Return, The Warriors, Jason and the Argonauts, and Clash of the Titans but I haven’t seen them so maybe they’re really good?

Kismet 1955

So as usual I was jamming out to old school musicals and Apple Music recommended me a song called “Strangers in Paradise” from the musical Kismet. I never heard of it but considering I love Richard Kiley in I had a ball I gave a shot. As expected I fell in love with it and the musical later to find out there’s a movie of the musical from 1955.

Simply put, I haven’t seen it nor do I know anything about the musical but is the movie any good? Would you recommend watching it?

The Slipper and The Rose

I just finished watching the Slipper and the Rose and I tried looking for the soundtrack of the movie but I can’t seem to find it anywhere on Apple Music or Spotify. Does anyone know where I can find the soundtrack to the movie? It’s so good!

Underrated Band

A bit ago I made a thread about Elliot because they’re so good but I never hear anyone talk about them. That said, another band I really LOVE is Finch and the same applies here. Every emo person I’ve encountered has never heard of them! But their album What it is to burn is incredible and I’ll go as far to say Nate’s vocals are INSANE and the fact that his voice is still strong is just crazy to me. They also released a new album I think and the song back to oblivion is pretty fire. Do you guys love Finch? And do you guys have any songs from them that are your favorites?
