Im writing a stupid midwest emo album and i wanna know which of these song titles i made are your favourite(if any)!
- I often read the labels on the back of candy wrappers, my mom says i'm wasting my time but hey maybe this is what life is about
- This song is one of the songs on my album of songs that i made
- I remember one time in 4th grade a kid stole my candy, i'll never forget that kid. he's the reason i can't seem to get my shoes on in the morning
- Sometimes when i eat a burger the lettuce is too soggy and it ruins the whole experience. i hope next time it'll taste better
- Pass me the shovel and i'll dig my own grave... except we both know i'm too lazy for that so just put a bullet in me and leave me in the woods
- I don't want to die, i just want to be that pair of socks your grandma forgot behind the washing machine in 1987
- I only clean my desk so i can dirty it again, isn't that why i bought this stupid thing
- I sit for hours hoping for a notification and when it finally comes it's just doordash, hey i might aswell order a crunchwrap supreme for my troubles
- Sometimes i watch the birds fly past and i get jealous, i wish i could fly, but then i remember i'm scared of heights... and dying but that part isn't connected anyway
- I once got so mad at a hockey match i put a hole in the wall, the wall, like, the hit album by the band pink floyd released in 1979.
- The real hole to hell is the coin slot on vending machines
- At what point does something become old
I avoid very normal things and i dont know why
I’ve realised recently just how much I avoid things, and I don’t really know how to stop doing it.
I hate opening letters. I’ll see one sitting there and just throw it out because I don’t want to know what’s inside whether its good or bad. I never answer phone calls, I don’t open the door if I’m not expecting someone, and getting a message from someone or that im not expecting can make me feel genuinely sick to the point i cant do anything for at least 10-15 minutes.
I also avoid interactions whenever I can. I cant bring myself to conversate with people, even family or friends, about normal things like what i like, what i want to do in the future, my favourite songs etc and i find speaking out loud in public especially if other people are around incredibly hard i usually just nod and try to get out of whatever situation im in. Even really normal things feel like it takes a massive effort to do sometimes. Stopping the bus, buying something in a shop, asking someone where something is, asking for directions, talking to someone at work, stuff that most people probably do without even thinking about it.
Sometimes I’ll go out of my way to avoid having to ask someone something. I’d rather spend 2 hours to figure something out myself rather than ask someone or ill just not do it if i have to speak to someone. I regularly go days without speaking out loud to people and tbh i could be happy doing that forever, it isnt that i hate people or whatever i do want friends and to interect with people i just hate being in that scenario where the focus is on me and im being noticed.
The annoying part is that I know none of these things are actually dangerous. I know the person at the shop doesn't care how I sound, the bus driver isn't judging me, and whoever is calling probably isn't calling to ruin my day. But my body reacts like something terrible is about to happen anyway. I get that horrible anxious/sick feeling and just want to get away from whatever it is.
I think I've gotten so used to avoiding things that it’s become automatic. I don’t even really think about it anymore. Something unexpected happens and my first thought is just “how do i get out of this?”. I only really realise once im home and i think what is wrong with me.
I’m wondering if anyone else is like this, because sometimes it feels ridiculous how difficult I find completely normal things.
I dont know if im just an introvert or if its something deeper.

Why do i feel embarrased for simply existing?
Im 20 years old and i feel embarrassed and ashamed of doing really normal things in public, and I don't really understand why. I want to be more outgoing and just be myself, I want to go outside and explore and look for bugs to photograph, play my guitar, go out at night and look at the stars, say hello to people and ask how their day is, etc. None of these things are bad or particularly weird, but I feel almost embarrassed to actually do them. Even really small things like getting up from a restaurant table to put something in the bin, or stopping the bus, can make me feel self-conscious and like everyone is watching me. I know in my own brain that most people probably don't care and would forget about me five minutes later, but I still feel a rush of being scared and embarrassed in the moment for some reason.
What's confusing me is that I've never really been bullied or picked on, so I don't understand where this comes from. I don't want to spend my life constantly worrying about being perceived by other people when all I want to do is enjoy things and interact with people normally. I also really struggle with motivation to actually do the things I want to do, even things I genuinely enjoy. This affects my hobbies and my studies too. I'll want to play guitar, study, or do something I'm interested in, but I just can't seem to make myself start or stick with it. I also struggle a lot with opening up to people, even about really small or insignificant things like the name of a song i like, what i ate, what i want to do etc etc. Nobody but myself even knows anything about me and i dont know why i cant let others know. I'll want to tell someone something about myself or talk about how I'm feeling, and idk i dont even feel embarrased or ashamed about this part really i just physcially cant get myself to say things and i end up keeping it to myself. Has anyone experienced this, and how did you get past it? I want to understand why this happens, and i want to be able to do these little things without feeling ashamed of myself for simply existing in public, and also be able to actually pursue the things I enjoy instead of constantly struggling to get myself to do them.
19 and lost
I'm currently 19 and thinking about going to university, but I'm struggling to decide what direction I want to take. I know I want to do something meaningful and build a skill that makes me feel like I'm good at something, but I find it difficult to choose when there are so many possible paths. I'm not really interested in chasing the highest salary or the easiest job, i just want to feel proud in myself and my work,
I'm from the UK and, aside from my GCSEs, I don't really have any specific skills yet. I have been learning Japanese for around a year, although I'm not sure how useful it would be for a career here as it started more as a personal interest. I'm interested in careers outside of trades and have always liked the idea of working in areas like investigation or public service, but I sometimes doubt whether I'm capable of those kinds of roles. For anyone who felt lost around this age, how did you decide what direction to take, and what helped you figure out what suited you?
