Found Xrocker - keep it?

Someone in my mom’s building was giving this away. I grabbed it and threw it in the truck and came home. Only after arriving back did I notice it needed wires. I have an adapter that fits it but looks like it may have had an external receiver. Is that true and if so readily available?

I don’t want to use hard wires because based on my home layout there’s a lot of potential for my dog or one of my kids to trip, or worse, knock down the Xbox.

Thoughts? Next steps?

Weight causing tub to leak

Hello everyone. I’m about 6 years into first time home ownership and this is our first issue with water problems.

So we’ve been trying to trace water leaking from the ceiling recessed lights in my kitchen directly below our main (and only) full bath on the floor above.

I had already removed the light to check(power off, etc) but couldn’t trace the source or what was causing it. Today, I tried to run a few tests

  1. I filled the tub completely and let it sit for about an hour. Nothing.
  2. I drained the full tub and watched for 15-20 mins. Nothing.
  3. I ran the shower pointed directly at the run floor and drain for 10-15 mins while my wife watched. Nothing.
  4. I then ran the shower for another 15 mins intentionally making a mess, spraying the grout where the tub meets the wall and also where it met the floor. Waited 30ish mins downstairs watching the light and nothing
  5. Finally, I went and took a shower, and within 5 mins, the Mrs sent my kids up to tell me there was water coming out of the light!

So, something about my weight in the tub is causing this. Is that a fair assumption?

Also, I was able to identify the wet spot in the downstairs ceiling where it was initiating and flowing to the light.

Could this be as simple as something like putty between the drain and the tub wearing out, or, one of the seals?

Welcome any advice on next steps.

I’m about to cut the ceiling at that spot, assuming the Sheetrocks needs to go anyway and to dry up the wood.

Is this a roach?

Found in my son’s room. Couldn’t get a better picture because I needed to act fast. Doesn’t scurry with light or sound, but did obviously when I tried to kill it and missed the first time. He just moved a bit and then stopped. Got the little guy eventually

I’ve seen a couple of them in the house over the past few days. Mainly outside by the bins.

Water damage - Local experts?

I know this ain’t a diy sub or anything, but had a recent issue with my shower spilling over causing some wood to rot. Posts are on my profile. Wondering if anyone knows any reliable, trustworthy experts in the area that can help.

Posted on next door too but googled the first guy that responded and he apparently was arrested a few years back for breaking into the scarlet oak tavern, so, I’m a little uncomfortable bringing people like that into my house with two little ones!

Rot next to tub

Noticed my paint peeling and drywall rotting on a small strip next to the tub and door. Started to cut and found water damage and that the stud is soft and rotted. Also see clear black mold. What’re my next steps here?

I’m going to call someone Monday morning and not try and tackle this myself. Also wondering what this will set me back. I’m on New England for reference.

Late-ish Night Bites

I don’t know if it’s just me or if others feel this way too. We moved here from Quincy like 5ish years ago and Boston before that.

It’s absurd to me that on a Friday night, at 8:45, I called 4 pizza places for a sub and all had already turned off their grills.

It’s been a gripe ever since we moved. My wife feels I’m over reacting, Surely I’m not the only one that thinks that’s crazy right?!

Hello friends -

I have a bit of a conundrum. This morning, while waiting in the drive through line, the muffler fell off due to rust.

The truck is a 2011 sv with 200k on it. It owes us nothing. We mainly use it solely for the dog and Home Depot runs and have another family vehicle (gx) for our day to day.

What am I looking at price wise to get this fixed? Can it just be welded back on? Can I just live with it??

Anyone have a good recommendation on a cargo liner? I had a very furry husky!! And, two kids who lug around a lot of crap!!

Some must haves from me:

  1. Should not have to remove it from the vehicle when the third row is up. Ideally it would “fold up”
  2. (Very) nice to have: also covers the backs of the second row seat

I have the original Lexus all whether mats which work great but the trunk liner looked like it was one big piece. We use the third row a lot so ideally I would like to have something that’s just always in the car and attached.

I see a shitload of options on Amazon with very varied pricing, so would love some first hand experience.
