What an epic adventure! I am so glad that this is the first game I beat on the Thor. I played it as a monthly challenge and the RetroAchievement Wii launch event. It’s so fun to play the game at the same time as a few others and we can discuss. It makes playing old games like new games that just came out.

I really enjoy being able to play it in the docked mode as well as portable mode. The experience is quite seamless like a Switch if you have the proper controller setup.

As posted at the beginning of the month, I have been participated since January in a RA-focused discord server called Select Start. This month we are playing Zelda Twilight Princess Wii edition. We are just 1/3 of the month and we already have a player mastered the game (2 other players mastered the game before this month so they don’t count).

Personally, I have been really enjoying the game, more than any other 3D Zelda I have played including Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild. The story is linear but i appreciate that after burnouts from playing many open world games. The RA set is very nice as well. It doesn’t have many missables and most of them are boss fight without healing (instead of damageless). Playing on Ayn Thor with upscaling and HD texture pack is a godsend.

Inspired by this post by u/caffeineeeeeee, I made a few decals and printed on 2 pieces of normal A4 papers in a printing shop which costs less than $1 in total.

You can download the pdf and pptx files here.
It includes a template to make your own design as well as the 6 designs shown in the photos. The size I follow is 152mm x 82mm.

The Zelda designs are from the Google Drive shared by the user mentioned above. The other images were found by searching online. The Mario and Pikachu designs are cropped from images of a real Old 3DS XL special edition (that’s why you can see the cameras). Pokeball design is inspired by the Pokeball special edition New 2DS XL. And the waves is inspired by a custom skin I have seen for DS Lite.

I follow some videos to setup the 3DS home menu and extract the games and saves from my OG 3DS and load them onto Azahar. I can now play the same games and with my old saves on the Thor with the same nostalgic home menu and now with upscaling graphics. This feels surreal. The Thor is really the new “new” 3DS XL.

I have been participating in this RetroAchievement focused monthly challenge since January. It has a small but active community. The discord has a sophisticated bot to keep track of players’ progress.

This month we are playing Twilight Princess Wii version. I ordered a Thor White Max on Ayn AliExpress official store on March 1st when it had the sale. There was no update whatsoever despite sending messages to the seller until 40 days later when it was shipped.

And then it took another 2.5 weeks to reach from China. It spent a whole week in China waiting for the flight and another week in the Netherlands before delivered. Super slow!

But all the wait is worth it. This thing is a beauty. I want to cry. The hinge is so much smoother than the Flip 2. It’s time to do the set up!!!
