Has anyone seen the movie Altered States (1980)? It has to be where Genndy took inspiration for the black ooze.

A bit of spoilers here:

In the film the main character meets an ancient Mexican tribe where they have him drink a black ooze. The indigenous men look a lot like the ones from Primal with their faces painted white. The black ooze reverts him back to primitive man and his arm starts doing that lumpy thing it does in the show. Crazy movie, but pretty obvious influence I think.
