Die schlechtesten Bücher der Weltliteratur

[Edit: bzw.

Also los: Welche Bücher/Autoren findet ihr besonders schlimm? :-)

Finally a new clasp.

Right from the start, the clasp on the Fujitsubo annoyed me: it’s far too long (12 mm too long) for a man of average build wrist (7,25 inch) , and if you use the diving extension, it’s even longer, which looks absolutely rubbish. What’s more, it’s sharp-edged.
I bought an OTF clasp from AliExpress for 12 euros; it’s very well made and doesn’t add any bulk. It’s not titanium, but I don’t mind – at last, I’m rid of that long thing on the bracelet.

I’ve also ordered this for the new Islander strap for my Promaster, which is due to arrive next week.
LIW also sells exactly this clasp, but it costs me 45 euros more.

Hellboy

Dick, schwer, gebunden, sehr guter Druck.

My three most-worn watches at the moment.

For once, they’re all back on stainless steel bracelets, because the temperatures allowed it. The differences in size are quite striking in some cases, but sometimes I like them big and heavy, and sometimes small and light (I mean the watches, you perverts) :-)

Why didn’t I think of that sooner?

Godzilla has been sitting here with me since about 1990, and it’s only just now that it’s occurred to me that he makes a brilliant watch stand.

To Be Or Not To Be

WE HAVE WAYS OF MAKING YOU DANCE!

(It’s not *The Producers*, mind you, but I thought the vibe was quite fitting)

Yesterday I bought frames for my vinyl record covers. Now I’ve finally been able to frame one of my favourite maxi singles from the 80s. :-)

What a chunk!

I bought the Heimdallr Godzilla Grand Seiko homage in grey, second-hand. With 44mm diameter and 50mm lug to lug a proper hulk of a watch, which just about fits on my 7,3 inch wrist. The size always put me off a bit, as did the politically rather questionable logo instead of the cool zombie shark (HEY HEIMDALLR, BRING BACK THE ZOMBIE SHARK!).
But for 90 euros, I couldn’t say no.
I think it’s beautifully crafted, has a gorgeous dial, a great, very slightly domed sapphire crystal with a really good anti-reflective coating, decent lume, and the TMI
NH35 runs quite decently at +4 seconds. It’s just the bezel… why put a rotating bezel on a watch if it has absolutely no grip? Either you fit a fluted bezel on a watch, or you don’t put one on that can be turned in the first place.
But apart from that: a great beater!

What a fine little gem.

When it comes to my watches, I’m polyamorous – I love them all dearly (some more than others) – and today I’ve fallen in love all over again, because I received a parcel from Proxima (PX1697).
I love everything about the watch: the bracelet with its screw-down links, the OTF clasp, the enamel dial, the finishing, the hour markers, the superb sapphire crystal and its blue anti-reflective coating. And I love that it looks so understated yet still very smart.

At first I was worried it might be a bit small on my 7.3-inch wrist, but no, it fits incredibly well, like a glove.
A great little watch. Now we just have to see how the PT5000 performs.

The DW 5600 – still the best watch for spring cleaning out the garden shed.

I've ordered my first Proxima.

This morning I ordered the Proxima, which I’ve been wanting to buy for ages. A few moments ago, photos of it from all angles and on the Timegrapher arrived. I’m really looking forward to it.

Well, that doesn't look quite so boring now, does it?

I could never get used to the bracelet; it just makes the watch look boring. With the FKM rubber strap from AliExpress (search ’FKM rubber strap citizen tsuyosa‘), though, I could see myself wearing the Tsuyosa as a summer watch. I bought three colours: white, light blue to match the dial (it’s not Tiffany Blue), and navy blue.

Today, my beloved Zelos gets to go on my arm again.

And with the white FKM from the fast Ali in China, it looks particularly appetising.

One of the best SKX homages (in my opinion)

For me, the Heimdallr SKX (V2) ranks alongside the Islander as one of the best SKX homage watches you can get for a reasonable price ((and after wearing the Titanium Fujitsubo for two weeks, it’s a real heavy beast), and I’m always happy to reach for it. Every aspect of this watch far surpasses the original in terms of build quality: applied hour markers instead of printed ones, sapphire crystal instead of Hardlex, a ceramic bezel insert, a solid bracelet, and an NH35 movement. Only the clasp could be better.
That’s just my view; others (and Seiko fans) may see it differently. And that’s fine.
However, I think that with all its homage watches, Heimdallr can certainly hold its own against the big Chinese players in terms of build quality, and I wish they would produce their own designs as well.

It's not actually that bad.

In a moment of madness, I bought the Berny in an Aliexpress sale two years ago. I looked at it, wore it, took it apart, tried out new hands with better lume, and before I knew it, I’d lost interest in it. I stripped the bracelet for the clasp and forgot all about the watch.
It just fell into my hands again, I fitted a leather strap and… I don’t think it’s that ugly anymore. It’s got a certain something (and as a spare, in case I need an NH35 movement for another watch, it’s still good). I just need to get rid of that stupid name.
