Door Cam?

I just moved into this building and have never seen these sleek little gadgets on the door frame. Several people on my floor have one. I’m wondering if I should get one too… but I don’t know what they do. Do you?

Is this hike worth it other than the view and why is she wearing jeans?

This view looks fucking sick but the fact that there is a woman posing in jeans there makes me think this isn’t a serious hike LOL. Do any locals have any suggestions for a couple of guys from Colorado that are going to be out there in late September? Want a moderate to difficult hike (no ropes) that will take 6ish hours with some incredible views along the way.

Edit: it would appear that she is wearing jeans because it’s mostly a flat walk along a path and not the rugged “Adirondack Mile” style hike mentioned somewhere in the comments.

Transplanting a log from neighbor’s magic oyster mushroom tree.

This tree had been delivering incredible amounts of golden oyster mushrooms for at least 5 years before it finally fell down. I managed to snag a huge actively fruiting round from the tree… it was surprisingly light because it’s basically solid mycelium!

Do I need to set this up a certain way (in direct sunlight, on a hill, etc) in order to keep the party going? Or is that not at all how this works?

44, bad back and overweight from sedentary office life. Where to shift?

I’ve made some lucky stock and real estate investments that won’t enable me to retire but will enable me to downshift my need for income. What is a fun job that will help me get back into shape where I can make $50-70k/ year and get good health insurance? Even better if it fits with part time or seasonal stay at home dad life.

Bridging gap to 59.5

Sorry if this has already been discussed. I tried search here but wasn’t get any relevant posts. Anyway, here it goes:

Age and marital status: 44, domestic partner and 2 yr old child.

Liquid NW: $1.4M
Roth IRA: $70k
Trad IRA: $120k
Sep IRA: $220k
Taxable brokerage: $990k

Real estate: owe $180k @ 2.5% on a home worth about $700k. About 14 years left on mortgage.

Inheritance: will likely inherit $1-2M within the next 20 years but not banking on it.

Career: basically destroyed by AI and ageism.

Partner brings home about $8k/ month after taxes and I’m hoping to match that or get close to it with a combination of passive income and maybe a part time passion job.

How can I reconfigure my finances to maximize passive income and bridge the gap until I can access the retirement (and hopefully inheritance) money?

BaristaFIRE with a kid

Looking to reconfigure my living situation in a way that makes more sense for my current phase of life. I’d like my day to start off getting my kid ready and dropped off at (public) school. After that I want to go snowboarding or mountain biking for a few hours at a local mountain within 30-45 min drive maximum. On the weekends I want to be able to access urban amenities like good restaurants, concerts, botanical gardens etc. Under an hour to the airport. Looking for progression, family/community oriented yet creative/intellectual culture.

We currently live in the Hudson Valley in NY and kiiiiind of have this. My only complaint is that it’s a little expensive and Hunter kind of sucks. And the healthcare situation isn’t great.

Curious where else in the US can I live this kind of lifestyle on $150k annual remote/passive income? Somewhere in Maine, Vermont, or New Hampshire? Anywhere out west like Madrid, NM or Reno?

I hate myself for writing that but it is what it is. We go to our weekend home for maybe 1 week per month. I don't want to get the whole nice setup for that so looking into cheaper options and what's available on facebook marketplace. Currently considering a La Pavoni Europiccola, Rancilio Silvia Espresso Machine + Grinder Combo, or a Breville Barista Express. Which of these would you prefer and why? Any other recommendations? We often drink and oat milk latte and a whole milk cappuccino every morning.
